“Cool Hotel”
The hotel is not in the best of locations but once you get inside it is like your own private oasis within the city. The hotel was super cool and the hotel staff was very friendly. Just keep in mind that it is an old hotel and the layout can be a bit noisy with room doors slamming shut and people talking in the courtyard. Overall I thought it was a cool hotel and would definitely stay here again.
“An Oasis”
This was an oasis in the middle of the city. Beautiful courtyard. I had to keep reminding myself I was in San Francisco! Bed was comfy and the pillows were fabulous!!! The room had a beach house feel and there were nice touches in decor. Free parking is a definite plus in the city. Partying at the pool is noisy but didn't go on until all hours. Who goes to bed early in SF anyway! A big thumbs up!!!
“funky hotel”
Had a great time, would stay again.
“Kitchy and fun!”
Loved this place! Decor and rooms were great. Extremely friendly staff! Neighborhood was a little sketchy, but the price was right and never felt unsafe.
A RECOMMANDER
“An oasis!”
The Phoenix is a real gem - the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, the place is immaculate, attractive and very comfortable. The rooms surround a courtyard with a lovely heated pool. Nice continental breakfast served outdoors every morning - sit poolside while you eat your breakfast, and on the cool foggy mornings (evenings too), there are outdoor heaters. We really enjoyed coming back to the hotel late in the afternoon and sitting with our feet in the water after tramping around the city all day. Quite central - easy walk to Civic Center or Union Square, where you can easily spend time or pick up transportation - we traveled by bus, cable car and the F-line trolley (ride the cable cars early morning or evening so you don't have to fight crowds - they run til 1 in the morning). There is a great restaurant/bar within the hotel - super food and drinks - but we also really appreciated the commitment of the hotel staff to keeping things quiet after 11 p.m. The courtyard, although a great central place, was quiet at night - they must move those that are outside, inside. We were there 4 nights - on 2 of them we went to bed quite early, and noise was simply not a factor. On one night the folks beside us were very loud - shouting and loud laughter etc. but with door open, quite inconsiderate - staff were on it and politely but firmly got them quiet. Would definitely recommend - Phoenix was reasonably priced and we got great value - thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
“Cool digs”
Fun, funky, hotel with a young vibe. Not for the Jeopardy crowd. Bring ear plugs and a sense of adventure. Great staff, hoppin night spot onsite, right on bus route, eethnic neighborhood with great variety of food choices.
“atypique”
“We loved this trendy hotel”
I traveled to San Francisco during August 2006. We were so pleasently surprised that this hotel was awesome. the staff was friendly, the decor was trendy and artsy, breakfast was great and the restaurant in the hotel is really cool. The ONLY downfall with this hotel is that it is close to the tenderloin district...which is the bad party of San Fran. The staff will direct you a way to walk so you don't walk into it. I did not feel comfortable walking at night so we took a cab from the cable car stop. It was only 7 bucks for two people...worth it. I will stay here again. I loved how it was so easy to find from the airport.
“nice exotic hotel”
free parking, nice breakfast, neer city hall
