“Lovely, but don't expect a chain hotel experience.”
We arrived at the hotel around 1pm, but had to wait till 3pm to check into our room. The front desk staff was efficient and courteous. They kept our luggage for us while we walked downtown. The room was just as pictured on the web site, small but clean and not a lot of noise. The bed was very comfortable. Our room was on the eighth floor, and having read about the elevator problems, I was concerned because I have knee problems. It would be very difficult for me to climb that many stairs if the elevator wasn't working. On our last day there, my husband got stuck in the elevator with another couple for about half an hour. We walked down all eight flights , stayed out all day, and by the time we returned the elevator was fixed. The problem seems to be overloading...no more than 500 lbs. max. The breakfast was good, continental style. Again, the staff managed the buffet well. Most of the kinks of this new hotel have been worked out. The exception is no soap in the bathroom, only shower gel. So, bring your own soap. Considering the price paid, the room and location are great. It reminded me of places we've stayed in Europe. We enjoyed our stay (even with the elevator mishap).
“Would like to go back.”
The location of the hotel is very convenient. It's a very old hotel but clean and well maintained. It is not a luxury hotel, but has everything you need. The reception area is small, but neat and comfortable, and provides couch for many people to sit, books and magazines to read while waiting. The room is very neat and the bed is very comfortable. Breakfast was very good too, and provided enough options to choose from. I'm happy with the experience.
“Great”
The hotel is perfectly located to galleries, excellent restaurants, trolley, shopping, and clubs. The staff is very kind and helpful. Breakfast provides a very light snack that can hold you over until you get really hungry, not great. I would stay here again and again.
“Would stay again”
Lovely rooms, great central location. Would definitely stay again.
“Excelent location!”
Very nice and clean, excellent location, and friendly employees!
“Cute and affordable”
Small room, but great spot for accessing Chinatown, North Beach in one direction, Union Square in the other direction. The room was tastefully done, and the apt was chic and affordable. Didn't have time to visit the bar/lounge, but every time I walked past, it was jumpin'!
“Simple, Nice, Friendly, Convenient and Clean”
The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel location is excellent and the parking attendants at the lot around the corner are courteous and fast. Our room was smallish but pleasant, clean and comfortable. All the facilities worked. When we had a small problem the night manager was at our door within 10 minutes to attend to the solution. I highly recommend getting a room above the 4th floor. The building next door blocks the views below the 5th floor. The only problem with the hotel is the elevator, which is old and a bit slow. Once or twice we walked down, but for us this was no hardship. The elevator is fully functional but requires patience on occasion. I recommend the Crescent San Francisco, it is a reasonably priced hotel in a very convenient location. If I am staying in San Francisco, I would be happy to lodge there.
“New Boutique Hotel”
very nice designer hotel, in an older building, lots of black & White, leather Canapes in rooms, beautiful bathrooms, very clean. Location is next to China Town entrance, excelent hotel for this price
“Cute Boutique remodel”
Nicely renovated older hotel. Fun minimalist styling, well done lighting all on dimmers in the room. Dim, welcoming hall ways. Large showers, new chic modern decor everywhere and a little lounge we peaked our head in, but didn't stop for a night cap. Best of all really close to union square and reasonably priced. Only down side might be size of room and the double bed instead of queen since it is a small room. So if you are looking to spread out for a few days and hang out in the room not the spot, with no views. Really better for a stylish comfortable place to come back to and wake up. Also, internet was weak on the 5th floor back of the building.
“Great location near Union Square for a really good price!”
I really loved this hotel, despite it being very basic and small. I tend to not like the bigger hotel chains like the Hilton or the Marriot because they have no appeal or character. Those hotels remind me of the cookie cutter aspects of suburbua. This hotel was definitely not like that and I was really happy with that! Very stylish inside, friendly people, good breakfast area with free breakfast, and a convienient location to Chinatown and Union Square.
