“Perfect San Fran downtown getaway: but get a room with aircon”
Awesome hotel, the library bar is a very cool place to hang out and meet other travellers. It's adorned with works of art and cool jazz sounds. They had a live band one night. It's a mature crowd: we are mid-30's and found all the other guests to be considerably older than us over our 3 night stay. The free wine hour at 5pm was fantastic. Park up, drink free local wine while reading the local paper. Great way to relax after a hard day's sightseeing. The staff were all exceptionally helpful. David and Jeff in particular. One slightly negative thing: we had to change rooms: the ones at the front have no air con and get stifling hot, even in autumn/fall. We had room 515, it was truly an oven, but changed to room 707 which was just perfect.
“Great service, great art, and a little different :)”
Very curteous staff. Love the complimentary glass of wine in the cozy bar downstairs. Valet parking, all day with in and out priveleges for a very reasonable price. Completely stocked mini bar and added toiletries if you have forgotten something from home. Great location, withi walking distrance of trolley lines, waterfront, and other attractions.
“Great place to stay in SF”
I had to attend a business conference during the week and my wife and I wanted to spend the weekend together, and Hotel Rex was ideal for both purposes. As I business traveler, I want a clean room, a good shower, close to Moscone Center, and wireless internet. For a weekend with my lover and bride, I want a cool funky hotel with clean rooms in a great location surrounded by the best of SF. Hotel Rex fit the bill perfectly at a good price.
“This is my new go-to hotel for stays by Union Square”
This is an amazing hotel tucked a half-block off of Powell St. There's a Walgreen's right on the corner, so you never need to buy amenities or snacks from the hotel's provisions. The cable car stops right on the corner as well as a Starbuck's. Lots of good restaurants within a block or two. The room I stayed in was very clean and quiet. The hotel staff is very friendly and will do everything they can to help you out when needed. I never go the chance to sample the in-house food, as there were many places to eat nearby.
“Great Hotel, Perfect Location, Fantastic Price”
The location of the Rex can't be beat for the leisure traveler. It's right in the heart of things and just off Union Square. The hotel itself is a real charmer and a fine example of the smaller, historical urban properties that I prefer. Furnishings are new, public spaces are attractive and the amenities and comforts include all the standards. Great value overall and guarranteed to receive a return visit from me.
“Terrific Looooong Weekend”
The staff is extremely accomodating and hospitable - which, after all, is the definition of a hotel! Our Executive King was fine - more than enough room, a great bed, flat-screen TV, and blessed air conditioning. The only thing lacking was an adequate light source for the sofa, which made reading there awkward. A minor blip. We would definitely return to the Rex.
“Quite satisfied”
Room was small but attractive; staff was unfailingly helpful. Location was the best!
“Extremely quiet!”
We totally enjoyed the Rex, a very quaint little hotel conveniently located near Union Square. The staff was small and very helpful. The room was small but very nicely done and comfortable. A biggie is the shower, it worked great with lots of pressure (not always the case). Our only complaint was it was hot and we could not open a window. We turned on the A/C and it was ok, but I would recommend asking for a room with a window that opens.
“Literary Charm”
The Hotel Rex caught my eye as I was browsing for accommodations in San Francisco. I was looking for someplace centrally located that would allow my daughter and me to explore the various neighborhoods on foot, by street/cable car and bus. The Rex fit the bill well in those regards, but most of all, it looked like a lovely place to stay that would be likely to make our experience even more memorable. I already had a good idea from reading customers' reviews as well as looking at pictures of the hotel and the rooms online. We both loved the charmingly decorated interior, the literary theme and quaint warmth the photos showed. We weren't disappointed in the least when we arrived! Our room was comfortably sized, quiet enough (on the 7th floor) especially with the air conditioner fan running on low at night. I never made it to the complementary wine reception in the evenings (too busy sightseeing), but we did breakfast in the Cafe Andre. Prices were reasonable and the food was good and fresh. Overall, I would stay at the Rex again in a minute and recommend it highly. The staff was always approachable and happy to make any arrangements for you and it felt good to come back to your room at the end of well-spent day.
“Enjoyed our stay”
We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Rex. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. It was a beautifully decorated hotel. Rooms were on the small size but clean and very comfy. Will be staying there again when we travel to San Francisco.
