“Wind and Sea”

Inexpensive, clean and no-nonsense. Close to the beach, and just enough out of the busy area of La Jolla. A coffee shop right next door is perfect for coffee and a bagel in the morning!

“Cozy, no pretentions.”

Simply great value. it's an old motel, set in the woods, kinda cozy, no pretentions. Nice people. Not fancy enough for my wife, but i liked it a lot. (see 'no pretentions!')

“Near the beach and town”

My husband and I didn't spend any time at the hotel at all, but were amazed at how close it was to the beach, and within walking distance of restaurants and "downtown" La Jolla. The hotel itself has seen better days, and could use with some updating, and if you are a light sleeper, be prepared for some traffic noise, as the coastal highway goes right past the hotel. But the rooms were clean and comfy, and you would be hard-pressed to find something closer to the beach at this price!

“Just fine for a night or two”

It's a two star, but extremely liveable. The room was large and a vanity outside the bathroom made up for the small bath. Everything was clean and the location was great! A small continental breakfast was served in the office and the office staff was very friendly. The only minor complaint we had were the extremely firm matresses, but again, for one or two nights, it was just fine.

“Great Value!”

Our room and bathroom was very clean and the front desk staff was accommodating. Breakfast was just pastries, fruit, and cereal. The room was small but comfortable. Overall, the room was a great value and we highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a no-frills place to stay in La Jolla.

Remodeled, well cared for. Close to things. We enjoyed our stay. Bed was comfortable. Quiet hotel. Perfect walk to the beach.

“Cheap but...”

If you need to stay in La Jolla and you want to do it cheap, then the Travelodge is a decent choice. I couldn't find any name brand places cheaper or even that close in price in the area. That being said, you get what you pay for. The rooms are extremely small. The bathrooms are clean but small. The towels are pretty bad. The free breakfast is terrible (a table in the tiny lobby that has danish, cereal, and coffee on it). And since it's a motel, don't plan on sleeping in. The maid are out by 8am rolling their carts around and talking to each other. They don't have HBO, but they do have a lots of channels. Most more expensive hotels limit the channels (but give you HBO) hoping you'll do pay-per-view. The staff were very nice and helped me find a great breakfast spot. What I'd really recommend is finding a place 20-30 minutes away for about the same price and get a better room.
