Great hotel with your dog!

Posted 8-Sep-2014
It was my first experience staying in the hotel where there is no charge for a dog under 50 pounds. They offer the water & food bowls and a very fluffy dog bed! The room is very spacious with great amenities. I highly recommend this hotel if you want to travel to San Diego with your pup!

Beautiful hotel in gas lamp

Posted 8-Sep-2014
From check in to check out, everything was smooth. At the time I booked the hotel they only had rooms with double beds available, however when I checked in they were able to accommodate us with 1 king bed.

Very nice hotel centrally located in San Diego

Posted 26-Aug-2014
Pros: We liked it's location. We came to San Diego on Amtrak and walked to the hotel. We also walked to the convention center, the USS Midway, Balboa Park
Cons: The $12 daily internet fee was an annoyance as was the $2 fee to make a 1-800 phone call from the room.
Location: Horton Plaza next door, Gas Lamp quarter nearby, Balboa Park and USS Midway within walking distance. We also used transit to get around - very handy.
We chose this hotel based on its proximity to Horton Plaza and the Gas Lamp quarter. The hotel is luxurious, rooms were very nice, pool was very nice.

great location in downtown

Posted 23-Aug-2014
Pros: first time in San Diego.thoroughly enjoyed staying in Gas lamp district! very friendly and helpful people. room was clean, comfortable and quiet.
Cons: no movie channel. a shared shuttle service with other Westin would've been nice
Location: neat neighbourhood to walk around in day or night. short walk to the water, ferry, bus, train and shopping/restaurants!
first time in San Diego. friend and I stayed four nights and did the Zoo, Seaworld, Midway museum, Old Town, Harbourfront, and Coronado Beach! Need another trip to stay longer!

No love for Expedia customers

Posted 20-Aug-2014
Pros: good location
Cons: The way customers booking through expedia are treated.
Location: Good location, close to gaslamp district.
Reserved and PAID for a room w/ a King Sized bed for my gf birthday through my phone. When I arrived(close to 11pm) I was given a a room w/ two fulls since the room I reserved was given to someone else. Michael at the counter said that the hotel does not reserve specific rooms for Expedia customers and only the one room was available. Since my gf and I were extremely tired from walking at the zoo all day I took the room. That was a huge mistake! The toilet kept "bubbling" loudly all night due plumbing issues and it woke us up time and time again. We also had to sleep in separate beds. It was a real bad experience and we expected a 4 star experience. I'm not sure that I would stay at a Westin again or book through Expedia next time as I was made to feel like I was less of a customer because I had done so.

The hotel was ideally located for our visit.

Posted 19-Aug-2014
Pros: The room was spacious, clean and quiet. The staff were pleasant and very helpful about the area sites.
Cons: The only comment we have is that the hot water in our room was very hot and you had to be very careful when adjusting the shower.
Location: The great mix of restaurants and bars in the Gas Lamp area gave you a wide variety of choices. The nearby USS MIDWAY museum and the ZOO/
The Westin Gas Lamp was ideally located for our trip to San Diego. We enjoyed the ambiance of the Gas Lamp area and the proximity to local tourist attractions. We were able to walk to most locations and an occasional taxi to remote locations.

Disappointed with the upkeep of Hotel

Posted 17-Aug-2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Lots, read review
Location: Location was fine but we had a car.
I decided to book the Westin since my vacation plans didn't pan out and I wanted to spend some quality time with my son who is going to college this year. I decided "what the heck" I know a little pricey but the ambiance should be positive for the price I am paying. First of all ,if someone is paying quite a bit for a night I would have expected for everything to be in tip/top order. I booked room 811 and when we got there we were given the scenery of the air conditioners on the top of the room, on the bottom umbrellas with some just laying on the floor and not on the stands. I am pretty picky and can tell if my room has been cleaned. Obviously not, some old milk in the refrigerator and the bath tub hasn't been scrubbed in a while along with the sink not cleaned daily, just put in some clean towels and nobody can tell right, WRONG!! The bathroom door didn't lock, cockeyed, and it had a big scratch on the door, ok maybe no big deal to you but for the price your paying I wouldn't have my bathroom door looking like that. The reading light on one of the beds didn't work, parking is $40 a night and if you want internet in your room that is another $13.00 a night. Obviously, management doesn't have someone who works for them that is doing their job. If I managed a pricey hotel like that I would walk around the premises daily and weekly and make sure everything shines along with checking up on housekeeping that they are doing their job. Too bad no one really cares.
