“Very nice, pleasantly surprised!”
I would definitely stay here again, it's a smaller "boutique" type hotel; obviously older however it has been renovated nicely and is very comfortable. The restaurant is a bit pricey but of course that's a choice for guests.
“Will be staying there again if i ever get back.”
The Sofia Hotel had everything - location, conmfort, service, convenience, cleanliness. Only one minor issue was the showers. As good as they were the water would constantly flow over onto the floor area due to the location of the nozzle /glass walls, so you would constantly have to keep the area dry. But overall it was such a nice place - I would stay there again guaranteed.
“Excellent hotel with great quality!”
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Sofia hotel! I was in town for a concert at Spreckel's Theatre and the location of the hotel could not have been better. The rooms are on the small side but since it was just me, it was just fine. The staff was very nice and there is plenty of stuff near the hotel to do. I will definitely be back!
“Beautiful hotel”
The hotel was very beautiful not to mention it was in a perfect location. It is walking distance from shops and restaurants. The room was very cozy. Would definitely go back if I visit san diego in the future.
“It was just right”
Recently redecorated, historic building, warm feeling, good location for walking to Gaslamp District area and just several blocks to a ferry dock for Coronado. Responsive staff. Small room- good for one person or a cozy couple.
“Fabulous Hotel in San Diego”
The Sofia Hotel is a great, relatively new (5 years) hotel, located a couple of blocks from the Gaslight District and 6 blocks from the Conference Center. The neighborhood is fine - there's a bus stop nearby that goes straight to Balboa Park and the Zoo; there's also a grocery store 3 blocks away for stocking up on snacks/breakfast supplies if you don't want to go out for a meal. The staff could not have been any nicer, the rooms were clean, and there's a nice restaurant/bar in the lobby (although I never ate there). My only complaint is that the pillows were too hard and high for my taste, but that's a small price to pay for an otherwise excellent experience!
“A great hotel in San Diego for those who are tired of the big chains!”
The Sofia is understated yet classic. Clean and quiet. The art throughout the property is a sweet touch. i found the staff to be helpful and professional. I would recommend this hotel to anyone - except if you are traveling with kids who like a pool. No pool here. I would most definitely return here.
“favorite hotel in San Diego”
Quaint old hotel that has been updated. The rooms are small but that adds to the ambience. Staff are always friendly and eager to help. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
“The best of European style and US efficiency.”
Being a frequent traveler to Europe I really appreciated some of the European style and amenities, like the "rain" shower head, tile floors, and top of the line plumbing fixtures. Fridge, microwave and coffee maker located in their own convenient space with counter and shelves. Unfortunately, unlike the average European hotel, room lighting was not sufficient.
“Classic hotel, tastefully refurbished”
Good location for walking to waterfront or restaurants. Nicely furnished, modern decor. Room was a little cramped, but the furnishings were appropriate to the size. Good restaurant & bar attached to the lobby. Nice that Internet was included, but there was a "service fee" above the listed room rates. However, Expedia warned of that & it was not unreasonable. Valet parking was efficient, if a little expensive.
