“Room Size is Fantastic for San Diego”

The building is older but nice. The reception area is small with a friendly, efficient staff. The building is secure. The area around the wading pool is lovely with HUGE planters and a real tropical look to it. The ladies who clean and attend the breakfast area are efficient. They installed Sealy Posturepedic bedding in all the rooms during my stay. I go to San Diego six to eight times a year and this is by far the largest room I have ever had. There is a well equipped kitchenette. The bathroom was also quite large with lots of sink space and a nice deep closet and even a La-Z-Boy recliner. All the rooms have small patios as well. The parking is very tight but I have paid $10 a night to park in lots just as limited on space at other hotels so the free park was a real plus. The hotel is a block away from "Bombay", one of the best Indian restaurants in SD and there are tons of restaurants within a five block radius as well as Whole Foods, UPS, CVS Pharmacy and on and on. The hotel is on the edge of the Hillcrest neighborhood. This is not a five star resort but it is a great little hotel. To me it was much more than I expected for the location and the price.

“An Excellent Choice”

We stayed here because our "usual" place in San Diego was completely booked, and we ended up loving this hotel. The rooms were large, comfortable and very clean. All of the employees were incredibly polite. We also loved the central location. We laughed that this will now undoubtedly become our new "usual" place.

“Great place to stay”

My family of three stayed here for a week. We had a one bedroom suite which gave us plenty of room. The kitchenette was quite useful. The location is great for getting around to all the San Diego attractions. There are lots of restaurants in the area. The room was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't find the ambulance noise bothered us and in fact my 9 year old boy loved watching all the emergency vehicles.

“Way better than pictures”

This place was alot better than I had read. The room was clean and the pool area pristine. The contiental breakfast was great, even had make your own waffles.I would go back in a heartbeat. And it is close to everything.

“Comfortable and spacious”

The room we had, smallest suite, was spacious and comfortable. We appreciated having a full refrigerator for snacks and leftover meals from restaurants. Extremely convenient to Hillcrest - and to Gaslamp and downtown via public bus

“Will return”

Very clean. The shower was difficult to operate (very stiff handle to pull on and off) for my 80 yr old mother. The staff were very polite and helpful. Very good breakfast to get your day started. Occassional noise at night due to location next to a hospital.

“It's a bargain”

The hotel is in Hillcrest which means it's harder to feel like one is on vacation (no ocean, next to a hospital and close to the freeway) but Hillcrest not only feels safe but has tons of great restraunts, coffee shops and boutiques if you want to feel like a local. It's also very close to Balboa Park which is wonderful for kids (the zoo, a carousel and a train ride) and adults (lots of museums, nice architecture and spectacular grounds- for FREE!) The hotel has seen better days but appears to be in the process of being revamped. There were cookies upon check-in and the breakfast is as described- deluxe continental. You get the danish and coffee standard but they also make belgian waffles, have coffee mate and have hardboiled eggs if you can track them down. There are also several types of cereal and bread. It's free and there are lots of tables outside and near the pool where you can enjoy your little breakfast. I really liked the hotel because it was reasonably priced, fairly quiet and clean plus we had a fridge and a balcony. The view was of the hospital but what do you expect for the money? I'd stay there again with no qualms.
