Valentien - Popular with local residents, the hotel's signature restaurant is open for all meals and takes its name from the early-1900s California artist whose paintings are displayed in the elegant room overlooking the 18th hole of Torrey Pines Golf Course. “Excellent overall”

Wonderful hotel! Beautiful, homey room with lovely lamps and furnishings, including a furnished balcony. Service was top-notch in all ways, friendly without being overbearing. Felt secluded yet close enough to San Diego. Everything was thoughtfully done and top quality, can't wait to return.

“Excellent Experience”

I usually stay at the Hilton next door which is great- but the Lodge is in a whole different league. Definitely a 5 star experience...The only negatives are the rooms are a little dark...but the interiors are first rate.

“"Not impressed"”

I thought this highly rated hotel would be very nice-the pictures of the hotel make it appear much more luxorious and modern than it really is.Because its an old building style it seems like en endless maze.The rooms need to be redecorated-the gym and spa were nice though,as well as the staff.A good hotel but not great,I would say

“Terrific vacation hotel”

We had a great time at this grand hotel! We have stayed there at least five times for a week at a time and have always had a great experience! The hotel staff are friendly and helpful! The spa is wonderful! The golf is unbelievable! The views of the Pacific are awesome! Just a fabulous time!

Area recommendations

Nearby San Diego has many sight-seeing opportunities! The harbor, Balboa Park, Old Town, the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, just to name a few! There is fabulous shopping at Fashion Center Mall and at the outlet mall in Catlsbad. La Jolla is a quaint town with numerous shops and restaurants snd great views of the Pacific. Also, nearby Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe are lovely.

“The Lodge at Torrey Pines”

Nice quiet hotel. Beautiful views. Good food. Convenient parking and close to many attractions. Jake's in Del Mar is a must restaurant. Staff were very helpful.

“Very Nice!”

This hotel was very nice! Great location and a great price with expedia. My only dislike was that I couldnt get my favorite "latte" at the hotel. You can get espresso, but you have to go to the dine in restaurant or order room service. Otherwise my experience was great.

Area recommendations

The Village at La Jolla was nice. Close and everything you need is there. Del Mar was nice as well and also very convenient. You need a car, but a very short drive to shopping and restaurants.

When to go

June is cold. Pack a sweater for night and pants. La Jolla seems colder than other locations in San Diego.

Getting around

With a car you can get to all the "must see's" with in 20 min. All the beaches, museums, shops, horse races :-) That was fun!

Must see

The Del Mar Horse Races were fun, but only happen for a short time in late summer.

“Excellent Hotel!”

I recently spent 5 nights at the Lodge. It was a very pleasurable and relaxing experience. The rooms were great, service was impeccable. The immediate vicinity of the hotel doesn't have much going on in terms of food and entertainment, but La Jolla village is close enough.

“Very relaxing”

I got what I expected--a 5 star hotel near the beach. The rooms and service were impeccable. We used it as a base of operations to see the S.D. sites, and it served well. I felt a little silly staying here as I don't golf, but there's plenty of other things to do, if you have a car. The hotel neighborhood is beautiful but dead at night. The internet service and cell connection (AT&T) were very slow. Otherwise it met all my hopes.
