“Lovely and funky”
We enjoyed everything about the motel. Especially the fact that it is old, but totally renovated and super clean. Leucadia is an old fun beach town, and has lost none of its charm. Will we go back? Absolutely! Every chance we get!
“Will definitely go back!!”
Hotel has character and is pretty and clean. Its older and it looks like it was recently remodeled. It was like a small apartment with a small kitchen and it even had dishes, cookware, silverware and a full coffee maker. The cleaning lady was very nice and brought fresh towels every morning (which smelled like a really nice fabric softener). The neighborhood was nice and had a really nice "surfer vibe" to it. I would definitely stay here again!
“Leucadia Beach Inn”
We decided to take a trip to San Diego at the last minute. When I found Leucadia Beach Inn actually had a room available for such a great price, I seriously had my doubts about the quality of the hotel. We checked in and the staff was extremely friendly. We found out the hotel was still family owned and I like that. The hotel only has 21 rooms, which gives it an intimate feel. There's a grill outside for use by the guests, as well as lounge chairs. Our room (I think every room) had a kitchenette, complete with dishes to use. It honestly felt more like you were staying at someone's home than at a hotel. There are only two things I would change about this place. The beach is not as close as one would hope, and the cute white shutters on the windows do not do much for blocking out the light. Obviously the beach thing is not something they can change, but I'd have loved the option of pulling a light blocking set of blinds.
“Clean, simple, and accessible.”
Small motel with large rooms. The two double bed room we stayed in had a kitchenette with a gas range in it and dishes and pans to use. It felt like a studio apartment. Very clean all over including the bathroom which was spotless. No internet or phone, but we were only staying one night anyway.
“Nice Stay”
I stayed here for 5 days, the hotel superintendant was very helpful and courtious. The room was super clean and updated with fresh paint. The kitchenette was functionable and nice to have use of the gas BBQ. Not as close to the beach as we originaly understood, but it was a nice walk and easily done. Only bad, was its right on the highway and you get alot of traffic noise including the train frequently passing, which was kinda cool...but noisey. I would stay there again.
“Cute and clean!”
My friend and I booked one night at the Leucadia Beach Inn after attending a wedding in San Deigo. We arrived about 9:30, and had to make a phone call to reach the owner, who checked us in. But he was very friendly. The exterior and interior are retro and adorable. The inside was very clean. My friend said she saw a spider in the bathroom, but I didn't see it. The bed was a little firm for me. The kitchen and the wardrobe were almost miniature. But there was a coffee pot with decent coffee, and the shower was large enough, which is all I cared about. Really nice atmosphere. Would stay here again. Walking distance to a market, a diner, and the beach.
“Get away from home.”
Loved the location. Loved our room. Parking not great but could be worse.
“Quiet, all the comforts of home.”
We were treated like old friends, but we weren't bothered at all. Easy parking, if we asked for something we received double what we needed. Our stay felt like we had our own apartment with all the comforts of home and in a very safe feeling neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay very much.
“Cute, Quirky Little Inn”
I took my little daughter to Encinitas this July and based on the reviews decided to stay at the Leucadia Beach Inn. I've done some traveling for business so I've stayed at a wide range of hotels and motels over the years. This place isn't a luxury resort, and they don't charge like one either. But the room we were in was very clean, the paint was fresh, the furniture was in good condition, and the entire inn was well maintained. There was a mini-fridge large enough to hold groceries, a stovetop, sink and microwave so you could prepare your own meals, and a crazy-quilt collection of dishes, cookwear and cutlery. Just outside the door is the parking area along with benches, a table with an umbrella, lots of plants and a few fountains. It is cozy, but comfortable. Bottom Line: If you prefer cookie-cutter chain hotels then you might want to keep looking. But if you like a place where you can prepare meals in your room, that is relatively inexpensive, clean, slightly quirky and full of character along with the surrounding neighborhood, then you've found it!
“Would definitely stay here again!”
We loved this place and will definitely go back. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and there are a number of good restaraunts within walking distance if you choose not to cook in the room. The common BBQ is great for meeting other guests and relaxing after a day at the beach. For the drinkers, we suggest Uncle Dukes. It is just down the street and the locals were very welcoming. Although a little farther than the advertised 1 block to the beach, the beach is within walking distance.Just be prepared. The hike down isn't so bad, it's up that gets you.
