“Very Dog and Human-Friendly”

First of all, it's valet parking ONLY. That was the only unexpected surprise throughout our whole stay there. The whole staff was very friendly and sincere. The room itself was AMAZING. Definitely book the partial ocean or full ocean view. How can you not when you're so close to the beach? It's VERY dog friendly; they even gave us a dog tag to use just in case my dog got lost, he could easily be taken back to the hotel. The food at the hotel was to die for and the portions were relatively big. Walking distance to the whole downtown area and the best of the beach. And the bed? Wow. You could sleep on it without a pillow and still sleep well. I would definitely book this place again.

“Absolutely perfect!”

Our experience at La Valencia was beyond our expectations. We've already decided when we're in La Jolla again, we'll stay here -- it was truly a delightful experience! Maybe next time no earthquake?

“Worth every penny!”

Not only were the grounds, lobby and restaurants beautiful but the staff was outstanding. You were made to feel like you were their only and most important guest.

“Great Romantic Getaway”

This was my second visit in two years and on both occasions the experience was superb. The service was very good and the hotel is very romantic. The pool is excellent as well. Great location, great views, great beds, swedish massage.

“We would go back tomorrow if we could!”

We arrived via LA at 2.30 am feeling very tired and grumpy but were greeted with smiles by the night porter and shown to our very small room with little fuss or formalities. The room was far too small to accommodate the large bed, plus put-up bed for our 11 year old son, but once the sun had appeared in the morning and the blue sky burst through the large window we instantly forgot how claustrophobic the room was. The rest of the hotel was fantastic - rich in character and felt like home. Our son enjoyed the pool, which he seemed to have to himself for most of our stay. I would highly recommend a glass of wine in the La Sala lounge to end your day. We'll be back!

“A lovely hotel - would definitely return again!”

La Valencia is a very pretty hotel and the rooms are very comfortable. The food is very good as is the hotel's service personnel although they forgot to give us the paper each day we were there and the flyer for the activities and weather for each day except for the very last night we were there! Also, the cost of parking your car there is too high -- we hardly used the car at all so if you don't really need a car take a cab to the hotel. Otherwise, we had a lovely time in La Jolla!

“Wonderful, old, one-of-a-kind hotel”

We were looking for an more upscale hotel in La Jolla that was close to the beach and in a walkable area. Our trip to the San Diego area was for a family vacation (kids ages 4 and 2) during the week after Labor Day. La Valencia fit the bill, and what we got was a beautiful, distinctive hotel rich with history. Our room was in a newer part of the hotel (new being a relative term) and was clean and comfortable, featuring more upscale amenities, but certainly not remarkable. The common areas of the hotel were gorgeous. It is definitely worth it to take a spin around the property. This area of La Jolla is pretty much just art galleries, boutiques, and upscale restaurants. Nothing gets going until afternoon. However, we were using the hotel as a base, so it really did not matter to us. The ocean is across the street, and you absolutely must visit at sunset. If you like wildlife and gorgeous shorelines, you should also spend an hour walking up and down the walkway that runs along the beaches.

“Honeymoon! Yes!”

We went to La Valencia for our honeymoon. I think that La Jolla is the best place for Honeymon in California.. This Hotel is really "historical". You understand this when you see the elevator. :) Beautiful ocean view and quiet..
