“Wonderful Little mini vacation”

We were on a budget and since traveling in the middle of the week, wanted something quaint and high quality. After booking with Humphrey's I read all the reviews and they were mixed. When we arrived the room was great!! The grounds were so charming and well taken care of, you could tell the people working there really pride themselves on how the grounds look. Fresh towels each morning for the pool and this was the off season with hardly anyone using the pool, but the spa tub was popular. The restaurant is fantastic and had live music as this is a go to spot for a summer concert series and the hotel has a stage and green area for the concerts and I am sure they sell out! It is a great view of the marina off the San Diego Bay with Coronado across the water. My boyfriend was really in heaven when F16 fighter planes started taking off right there!! Pelicans and seals in the harbor, coy in our pond at the hotel as well as 2 really cool parrots that were out daily. Staff were all really friendly and accomodating! Restaurants that were recommended by the shuttle driver were all excellent and I mean really great!! We did eat at Point Loma Seafoods for lunch and it was fresh and hot! We were able to walk to a Von's to get essentials and it was a lovely walk. Convenient, clean, posh and worth the price we paid, every penny!! We are going to come as often as we can and consider this our new little discovery. So romantic and pretty. Weather was even nice!

Area recommendations
Point Loma and Island areas. Convenient and has all you need. A taxi will get you everywhere else.
Dining
We went to Point Loma Seafoods. It is a order at the counter, pick up and find a seat kinda place with a huge fresh seafood deli and wine, beer and alcohol for sale. Very fast, fresh and delicious!! The squid fry is excellent, one of best and the shrimp and fried fish were delicious as well. Being from Seattle, we know fresh seafood. This place is well worth it!!

“Quick and Convenient - Would go back again”

Had only two nights at Humphreys, but the room was very comfortable - plenty of blankets and pillows - and very clean. Coming from Hawaii, having the use of the heater helped when the nights got cold. We chose Humphreys because of its proximity to the airport; we had a 6am flight on a Monday morning and didn't want to deal with traffic. My husband walked the grounds and said they were beautiful and we were right next to the marina - made us feel right at home! The staff was helpful and very friendly. We also walked to a small bakery about 6 blocks up the street from the hotel one morning - very good cranberry walnut muffins! The only suggestion would be that more hooks are needed to hang up hand towels (or bath towels) in the bathroom, and maybe more hangers in the closet. Glad we stayed there.

Dining
Had dinner at "Il Fornaio" on Coronado Island - excellent Italian food, excellent service, prices steep but worth the price.

“Walls are thin”

Our room had a good view, but we could hear the baby crying in the next room for several hours in the night. Also, a loud hum from the refrigerator was annoying. Bed was comfortable, and amenities nice. Front door stuck and you had to pull it real hard to insure it closed tight, which sounded like everyone was slamming their hotel doors. The hotel grounds were very nice, as was the staff.

“Great location, Nice older hotel”

Shelter island is nice and typically quiet but the rooms here are not quiet if a wedding party is staying nearby. Security did take care of the problem promptly. Paper thin walls and the ability to hear neighbors throught the AC vents was disappointing. Room had updated furniture but lacked an updated kitchen, however they gave us a reduced rate. Hotel gounds are very nice and kept. Free wi-fi is great. Hotel staff were wonderful. Agree with previous review that coffee in lobby would be great addition.

Area recommendations
Recommend Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach for local food joints. USS Midway tour is wonderful. Zoo and Safari Park are beautiful and unique. San Diego Sea World is fun but Florida's is much better. Old town is fun but traditional Mexican food not as good as we get in Colorado. Lots to do on Coronado Island.

“Very pretty, worst beds and sheets”

Honestly the hotel was very beautiful and great location. However, Could use some more parking and had the most uncomfortable mattresses, pillows, and sheets. We all had trouble sleeping and were sweating like made from the plastic-like sheets and pillow cases. I think one of the main reasons you stay in a hotel is to sleep and being on those beds made it difficult nearly impossible to do so. The area is fantastic, and other than the beds the rooms are cute and cozy.

“Beautiful”

Wonderful stay, loved it! Green Bay Packer friendly hotel..... now for the bad...we arrived late at night and the front desk was empty, I must of waited for about 10 minutes before i started yelling HELLO...then finally a woman came out looking upset because i yelled...we entered our room and like i said it was beautiful and clean but the heater did not work. We were so tired from the Packer game that we just put on our sweaters and fell asleep but the temp in the room was at about 65 degrees glad there wee extra blankets in the room. The hotel morning staff including the cleaning crew were so welcoming and friendly...great people!

“San Diego Expert”

The location of Humphrey's, known in San Diego as a concert venue also, is rather nice--Shelter Island provides a rather quiet and scenic environment for travelers and weekenders and gives visitors that true San Diego feel, being next to the bay, the marina and located in the midst of boat/yacht vendors. Views of the city, Point Loma (Cabrillo Point) and North Island also adds to the ambiance of a quiet stroll along the island's shore. The room was capacious, clean and shows signs of a recent update. The front desk staff was attentive, even though a passel of Packers fans had invaded the hotel for a weekend match with the local favorite--the Chargers. I'd stay there again.

Area recommendations
Hillcrest (good-excellent restaurants and shopping), Shelter Island, Harbor Island (great city views and North Island views), downtown--all of these are great locations if you're visiting the zoo, professional sports events, museums, etc. Easy access to other terrific sites is reachable also, e.g., La Jolla, Birch Aquarium, Torrey Pines Preserve, and all the north county beaches.

“Will stay again on my return trips to San Diego”

This hotel overall is awesome for what our family needed. We wanted a large room to sleep 6. Our suite was very spacious. Kitchen, living, bedroom, and bathroom plus a large dressing room. Very happy with it. It is not a new hotel but is taken care of and the gardens are beautiful! Hot tub and pool were great! Only bad thing I experienced, the hotel shuttle is not offered if booking through Expedia, so we had to fork out unexpected money for a rental car for 5 days. We were not informed of this until we arrived.

Excellent location to relax, staff helpful, beautiful views. Loud on concert nights but not too disruptive. Would have liked morning coffee available in the lobby.

“Great Music, Great Location”

Humphreys was a great place to stay in San Diego. Far enough to feel like you were not in the city but close enough if you wanted to go downtown. Being over on Shelter Island was wonderful and the free bike rental everyday for 2 hours was a great way to see the island and Point Loma. Some very nice off the beaten path restaurants located close. And the hotel lounge has live music and a super happy hour everyday of the week. We will definitely be back!!
