“Will definitely stay here again next time I'm in San Diego.”

Went to SD for a quick visit to cruise ship that would be docked in SD. Didn't want to spend too much money on a fancy hotel that I was only going to be in for a night's sleep. I booked the Hampton Inn SD Dtwn as it was very reasonably priced and was extremely impressed. Large room with K bed, sofa and desk area for me to do some work. Free internet with great speed. Amazing value for your money. And Little Italy just around the corner... good food. Will definietly stay here again next time I have to make a trip like this.

“Next to the train, horrible staff”

If you like trains going by all night, this is a fantastic hotel, only steps from the Amtrak line. Room was never cleaned, staff was miserable. They should have paid me. Left early and it was the best decision I made.

Area recommendations

Pacific Beach, just as close, but a lot quieter.

“Terrific Staff and Spotless Room”

The hotel staff was wonderful! They were super friendly and helpful. The hotel was nice and very well maintained. The hotel is located in a wonderful area between downtown, Little Italy, a trolley station, and the beautiful San Diego Bay. However, I wouldn't recommend the hotel unless you are a very sound sleeper. The train and trolley track is right beside the hotel and the train would wake me up during the night. The hotel does provide ear plugs and a white noise machine to help overcome the trains. The train noise would be my only concern about returning to this property. The room and hotel were very clean and the staff couldn't be any better.

“Hampton Horror”

The hotel appears to be a good quality hotel with above average service and amenities but that is overwhelmed by the proximity to the railroad tracks that abut the back if the hotel. The noise is tremendous and will wake even the most sound sleeper. Added to that was the road construction in front that started at 4 am. I did not get a complete nights sleep the 4 days I was there. It's a waste if a good hotel in a bad area.

“a pleasant surprise!”

I thought this was just a great stay for the two nights we were there after a cruise. The breakfast was great, and the staff were very friendly.

“Great Value”

Other than the trains, which don't bother me, I can sleep through anything, this hotel was the perfect value. If you want the action and ammenities than this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable room to sleep without blowing your budget than book here!

“Clean, comfortable, great location.”

This hotel exceeded my expectations. The location near the waterfront and adjacent to Little Italy was perfect. It was also convenient to Old Town, Sea World and the Arena Center. The beds were comfortable and with nice linens. Breakfast was good for a buffet - lots of variety.

“Good location”

This hotel was definitely a good choice. I know most people may have complaints about the train track nearby, but I think the tradeoff is fair, considering I could see the water AND it's right in the downtowm area.

“Can't wait to come again to see other attraction I did not get to see.”

Visit to the beaches Legoland park museums and the zoo. I will be back one day to do those events with my Grandchildern.

What to pack

I was not prepared I came home with a cold. I did not pack right . First time in San Diego and it was very cool with out proper clothing. Check the weather other then that it was great expereince.
