“A good hotel we will return for another stay, friendly employees.”
The hotel it is well located, near of restaurants, supermarkets, store, museum, etc.
“Perfect weekend, perfect location, perfect for what we need”
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and couldn't be happier with our experience. The staff were extremely polite, courteous and willing and ready to help with whatever we needed. The rooftop view was phenomenal. The room was comfortable and cozy. The hotel character was just what we were looking for without knowing what we were going to get. I left our 2 souvenir bags there and called a few times and they had them and we should get them this week. Perfect location and we plan to make this our hotel every time we come into San Diego. Thank you for a great experience.
“It's OK...The price is right.”
Its a much older, and a bit run down hotel in the Gaslamp district. Not the worst, not the best, but it was affordable and the staff was very, very polite and helpful. I wish everyone in a hotel was as polite and helpful as these folks. They gave us great directions to anywhere we needed, gave us coupons for restaurants in the area with recommendations, and helped with anything else we desired. The rooms and the hotel itself are just very old and run down. It was clean overall, just old. Location is great! We were able to walk pretty much anywhere we wanted to go from there. I would probably pony up the extra money and stay somewhere a little "newer" next time, but I would in no way say this was a bad hotel. What they lacked in amenities and comfort, they made up for in customer service. One more thing...There is no free parking for this hotel. You either have to find street/parkling lot parking yourself, or pay for the valet service. It was a bit pricey at $28 a day but we used it. You can come and go as you please 24 hours a day, I knew my car was safe with them versus parking it in a lot, and most of the lots I saw were about $25 a day anyway.
“Good hotel - active neighborhood”
Overall good hotel. I was pretty happy with the quality of hotel. Service was lacking a couple of times (no pickup on operator line ??, no hotel maintenance after certain hours if you have bathroom problems). I liked the look of the hotel it had lots of nice looking marble, clean floors, and elevators had a period look. Room was clean and windows were giant overlooking California streets. It was a downtown area so lots of bars and restaurants. The downside was that it didn't get quiet until after 2:00 am most nights. It was conveniently close to my conference center and there were lots of food choices around. The breakfast provided in the morning was nicely done and a large patio area to eat in on the top floor provided a nice view while eating. I was very happy overall with the choice.
“Old but nice”
The Gaslamp Plaza Suites is in an old building but it has been well maintained. It is in a convenient location for a tourist, a couple of blocks from Horton Plaza. The walls are a bit thin, we could hear a person talking one morning (I could almost make out what he was saying) and there was a band playing in a lower level every night that we could clearly hear in our third story room. We stayed in a suite that wasn't much higher price than a normal room. The queen-size bed was comfortable. There was a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator in our room. Parking was an issue, the hotel offers valet service for $28/night. Also no free wifi service, it was either $10/day or $20/week so we didn't pay for it. The free continental breakfast on the roof was nice. The building was hard to see when we arrived the first night, it took a couple of passes before we spotted it on the left side of the street.
“Great location and views from above”
The location is great. Everything downtown is within walking distance. The view from the rooftop lounge is spectacular and the staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming!
“Fun vintage with lots of character”
The mini suite was very comfortable and the vintage look was very appropriate. The noise from the Gaslamp District was loud, but it was great for walking to restaurants and entertainment. Everything is highly accessible from the Hotel, even the CVS Pharmacy where we went for bottled water. It's a great place if you want night life. Not really the right thing for a quite weekend get-away, but it is romantic.
“Fantastic vacation, great hitel”
Wonderful experience!! Would definitely go back. Fantastic rooms with all the extras.
“Plaza Hotel - Nice Location & Service”
You can't beat this place. Make sure that you park across the street, feed the meter before 6pm and save $$$. Service great. Room very comfortable. Location the best.
“Too much noise from street. Could not sleep/rest here.”
We stayed here for 5 nights on the 2nd floor. The nice lady at the reception allowed us to check in two hours early and also the room came with king size bed as oppose to the Queen that was in the deal. Those were the positives along with the rooftop breakfast. Oh by the way, if you are a egg, meat, sausage kind of a person this breakfast is not for you, but we loved it. What we hated the most is the quality of our sleep. There was loud music blasting from the neighboring bars until 3 am for first two nights. Third night was quiet but then that is it. On the 4th night it was the music and also other noise from the street. Also what you talk inside the four walls of your room can be heard outside. The walls are poorly insulated for noise. Though this hotel is conviniently located to all attractions, I would not recommend this place to anyone. You are better off staying someplace else or renting a car. There was nothing quaint about gaslamp district, just a few "historic" looking buildings if you carefuly look for their features. Otherwise, it loooks like ordinary place with street filed with old buildings. The streets around the hotelreets were dirty . Tthe corner of Broadway and Fifth is filled with urine smell and the other streets around are full of panhandlers. This hotel is ideal for people looking closer proximity to Bars and Night life..
