“San Diego Rest Stop”
Very nice - if however, If you would like a small fridge, make sure to ask for it in advance. They have a limited number. They also charge extra ($10US) for the fridge. Not a huge inconvenience but nice to know before arriving.
“Great value right downtown.”
Great room and service. Emplyees know local area and directions (when I got lost) were very clear. Quiet and great veiw of San Diego. Will definately stay here again
“nice hotel”
the hotel was nice, the parking is a problem and you need to pay $15 per night, we stayed 6 nights that ended with extra $90.... a little disturbing.... after all it is a good budget hotel, nothing more.
“Decent hotel for the price...freeway close!”
Hotel is in good shape overall. Location is a little suspect (rght next to freeway), but the price is right. Good hotel to crash at if you're heaing to Downtown SD for the evening. Not the hotel to stay at for amenities, as the pool is not attractive, there is no bar that I could find, and the only restaurant on site is a small counter deli. One night stays are all I would recommend for the descerning hotel guest...if you are looking to stay on the cheap close to Downtown San Diego.
“Great stay!”
I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn San Diego Downtown. Although a bit off the beaten path, the room was gorgeous and the price was right. We didn't have any issues with the hotel staff and they were always more than happy to help. The Holiday Inn even offered free wi-fi, an ammenity not offered by all hotels in the US. The only sore part was $17/night parking- a bit steep for overnight guests. Only a few dollars in a cab took us to the heart of downtown. About a 25 minute walk from the pier, it was a beautiful stay. Not many restaurants or quick-put stops for food are immediatly nearby, so best to pick something up on the way back to the hotel after a late night. There is a Chevron across the street that is open 24/7 for late night munchies.
“Great accommodations”
The room was good, the check-in service was just fine and polite, and the restaurant in the hotel had good and quick service for breakfast. The only thing though that I did not care for was the room I stayed in had a hard mattress to sleep on and only fluffy pillows. There weren't any feather or down pillows to choose from. The comfort of a bed is very important when I am on a business trip and have to stay for more than one day. The decor was nice though and had a great walk in shower in my room. The shuttle service did not seem very accomodating. One day, the shuttle broke down so my boss traveling in had to take a taxi from the airport. I was dropped off at Balboa Park by the shuttle, but the driver made me feel that it was inconvenient for him to take me and there was no shuttle available upon return so I walked a long way in the dark to get back to the hotel. The website just makes it seem that they will do their best to accommodate you by shuttle as soon as it becomes available. There was no offer to pick me up along the way of my walk. I have stayed at many other hotels and I have had such wonderful experience with the drivers being very accomodating and polite that in turn makes my stay so much more comfortable.
“It's average”
Hotel's room is a bit small but it's considered comfort. I don't like the bathroom door which is a sliding glass door and can't be locked. And the location is too close to the highway which is really noisy. Overall it's fine except that.
“Comfortable, with reasonable rates”
The staff at the hotel desk were very friendly and helpful. There are several luggage carts in the lobby for those who want to transport their own luggage. The first level parking has VERY narrow spaces. There is outdoor parking on the second level, but no elevator to get to it. You can bring your car down to lobby level however to load and unload. Since the hotel is cylindrical, I requested a room facing away from the airport flight path and the freeway (which also happens to face the bay). I was not disappointed, although the hotel room seemed to be fairly well insulated against the noise of the airport and the freeway. I did not really like the bathroom door. It is made of fogged glass panels, it slides closed (it hangs from a ceiling track...it is not a "pocket" door) and it does not have a lock. For single travelers or travelers that don't mind that there is no lock on the door, it is fine. I was VERY surprised to find that the hotel has soft water for the shower and sink! Very nice touch! To go south from the hotel, you have to get on the freeway on-ramp right next to the driveway. It is a little confusing so be sure to bring directions with you if you want to go south from the hotel. Like most hotels in the area, they charge for parking each night.
“Pretty good deal”
We didn't want to stay in the heart of downtown San Diego because of the nighttime/clubbing crowd and noise so we chose this hotel. It was close enough to downtown, the marina, and Balboa Park but not too noisy. *Parking was a little tight for our SUV but we always found parking--probably because it cost $14 a night to park there. *The grill downstairs was small in size but we were always able to get a table. "Kids always eat FREE" with a paid adult meal. The breakfast burrito was pretty good and the portions were reasonable for the price.
“Hotel was fine”
The hotel was a 15-20 minute walk from the Gas Lamp district, Balboa Park and the Zoo.
