“Great for the price”
At the time i stayed at the hotel, prices are always high because of the convention in san diego. The hotel owner called me claimed i booked two rooms instead of one and had to cancel one and would make me pay for it. However the evening staff cleared up the problem and were very kind. Do not recommend own or manager but the evening staff was fantastic and friendly.
“Econo Lodge in Lemon Grove, CA”
The main person was a very nice and courteous man who made the hotel stay even better. I will be going back again!
“Great for the price”
it was a great stay for the price. It is conveniently located right off the freeway, only about ten minutes from the beaches. Its a perfect place to stay if you're just looking for somewhere to keep you close to san diego without paying too much
“Pleasantly surprised”
My wife and I took a big gamble on this hotel and it paid off. I was leary of booking here because I could not find one review or picture anywhere on the internet. However, the rate was very good and it is less than 10 min from downtown / Petco Park. So we threw the dice. The building is obviously an older building but it seems to have been remodeled / updated fairly recently. The room was very clean and in good repair. The bed seemed to be pretty new. It was firm but not hard like at some hotels. There was a good sized TV (25" I think), fridge, microwave, and a desk. The room was fairly small but it was adequate. The bathroom seemed to have new tile and one of those nice bowed out shower rods (that create more room in the shower). The shower head was also at a reasonable height (about 6'), unlike some other hotels. They had coffee, juice and some pastries in the morning. This is definitely a no frills hotel but I highly recommend it if you just need a decent place to sleep and take a shower.
“good for quick, cheap getaway”
i needed a place to stay right away for a couple nights. for a pretty cheap place, it had good amenities such as free breakfast snacks, cable, and free wi-fi. even though the room itself wasn't exactly "five-star," the bathroom was really high standard. big tub, nice-looking, comfy. lots of good places to eat nearby.
“OK”
The hotel was alright. The service was terrible other than the maid service.
“cheap motel quality at a good location”
Standard cheap motel fare: tiny room, unfashionable furniture & exterior, "breakfast buffet" was packaged convenience store pastries. Clean enough, polite staff, internet and TV worked. Very, very convenient location next to a grocery store, all kinds of restaurants within a block, very easy freeway access.
“A basic motel, useful for those wishing to stay neat San Diego cheaply”
Econolodge is, by the very name, a place you go to to save money. As such, you shouldn't expect four-star accommodations. The Lemon Grove one is a typical example, and while it is not luxury, it's a place to sleep. I'm the type who likes to spend my money on other things during a vacation than fancy linens, mints on my pillow, and french-milled soaps in the shower. Wear earplugs, since there's always some dope in the Food4Less parking lot next door whose car alarm is set to go off at the touch of a butterfly.
“room and service match the price”
a little noisy in the morning but generally the room and service are ok
“Decent - if you don't mind sleeping in an ashtray. Non-Smokers beware.”
I booked a three night stay at this hotel through Expedia, with approximatley two weeks notice. On my reservation it was noted no fewer than three times that I was requesting a Non-Smoking room. When I arrived at Noon (for a 3pm checkin) they said all the Non-Smoking room were taken. The desk attendant apologized and said he would try to move us the next day. He was pleasant, but this was Strike One. I called the following afternoon to see if we could be moved and he said yes, there was a room available. Frustrated a bit that we weren't directly contacted by the hotel, we were still very happy to be moving out of the dank, smelly room we'd spent the previous night. We immediately headed for the hotel to exchange keys and received a call back a few minutes later that the room had just one queen bed, which was unacceptable for us as our reservation was for three adults. We turned around and did not end up getting a Non-Smoking room that evening. Strike Two. The next afternoon I called again and was told that all Non-Smoking rooms had already been taken by folks arriving that day. Hmmm....Third Strike. We travel to Lemon Grove several times a year but will not be staying there again and do not recommend this hotel to any self respecting Non-Smoker. Unless you enjoy living out of your car, as we were forced to do by leaving our suitcases in our vehicle so to not smell like a filthy ashtray during our stay, you will be disappointed during your stay at this hotel.
