“A fine, historic hotel”

The room I had was clean and everything worked fine, even if the bathroom fixtures dated from the 50s. The staff looking after the hotel clearly care well for it. The bar alone is worth the price of a night's stay.

“The hotel is an old historic hotel.. It is beautiful and the location is right in the middle of city”

the hotel is an old historic hotel... location is in the middle of everything. lots of artifacts.. riverwalk and shopping, resturants, all within walking distance.. you never have to get in your car...only thing.. parking was a big upset... very pricy.. now i know why our rooms were so cheap.. coulda put my car in a room cheaper that the daily rate.

“Great Atmosphere”

Really enjoyed my stay in this historic hotel. Right by the Alamo and the plaza across the street is full of people every evening. Entry to River Walk then across from plaza. Great shops and ice cream all available from the hotel. Only negative was the room above me developed a plumbing problem and suddenly I had water running down through the ceiling fan onto my bed one night:( However, hotel management quickly moved me to another room, so their response was great.

“Fantastic hotel! Don't let the other reviews scare you....I almost did.”

I read so many reviews about this hotel. I went to several different websites to check it out in fact. I waited 24 hours and really thought about if this hotel would be a fit for my family, but I'm so glad that we ended up coming here! Other reviews said that it was old and outdated, but it's a historic hotel. This hotel is so grand and has so much character that I will be sure to visit again. The breakfast buffet and dinner was absolutely fantastic, even if the service wasn't all that great. There are museum quality pieces up and down the hallways, and photographs from the 1800's everywhere. It was a real treat to stay there. Also, as far as the cleanliness of the room, it was fantastic. As soon as we got into our room, I started to strip the beds and check under the bedskirts and matress pads for any bedbugs (yes..I'm serious). The place was spotless, and not a bug in sight. I went to the restroom, and the bathtub was clean, and even though it was old (this IS a historic hotel), it was well kept. The carpet was freshly vacuumed, and everything looked great. It didn't look anything like some of the reviews that I had seen. Our room looked right out on to the Alamo courtyard, and even though it was a busy intersection, it wasn't loud. We stayed there for 3 days over Labor day, and I expected it to be very loud, but it wasn't. The pool was wonderful, and they even have a hot tub. Picture perfect for anyone looking to stay in a hotel with a little character!

“Wonderful Historic Experience”

The Menger was built in 1859 and expanded several times. The hotel feels like a hostoric landmark. Although my family enjoys newer hotels with brand new decor we enjoyed the Menger for the historic landmark it is. The location is also a big plus, right between the Alamo and the River Center mall. Overall a great experience if you want to capture a piece of San Antonio history.

“Haunted Hotel, Loved it!”

My husband, my daughter and I stayed there while I was attending training for my Job. It was the week of New Years, so I actually paid less staying there than anywhere else, which I thought was pretty cool because I like the fact that it is haunted. I would definetly stay there again and have already recommended it to co-workers.

“Very Nice Hotel”

This hotel is a nicely kept historical hotel. It has many things that let you know it is a 100+ year old building. Be aware that it offers parking- Valet Only, and it is $charge per day added to your room charges.. You have in and out privilege with no extra charge, but being a downtown hotel, there is really no other choice for parking. IT is in a great location- we walked everywhere that we wanted to go, and did not have any trouble with the neighborhood or finding our way around. I would stay here again.

This Hotel is in a great location, very close to everything on the Riverwalk downtown San Antonio. The room we had was small but very nice.
