“Good choice for the price”
No issues with this hotel - highly recommend it. It looks a little old but it has all the facilities you would want. Great for the price! :) Make sure you get the room with the geyser room. Wireless does not work from hotel room - usually have to go outside to use it.
“Very convenient for Te Puia.”
We spent a very pleasant and comfortable four days in this hotel. Our room overlooked the Pohutu Geyser, which was very entertaining as it often performed better in the evenings than in the daytime when we were there. The hotel is convenient for the town, Lake Rotorua and the countryside around if you have a hire car. Some of the furnishings are not in the first flush of youth, but everything was very adequate and comfortable.
“Good value”
I was surprized of the guest who only rated this place with a no 1 rating. Yes, perhaps the furniture is in need of an update but everything was clean and tidyand good value for money.Are you looking for FIVE STAR - please go somewhere else and pay the price. My wife and I was very happy with the Silver Oak Hotel. We would have no hessitation in going back one day>
“More hot water than you will ever need!”
We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is right next to a natural thermal area in New Zealand and we had a great view of a geyser right out our window. Since this geyser spouts almost constantly, this made our evenings particularly pleasant watching the natural show.

Amazing value, clean & comfortable and we had a fantastic view of the geyser from our room!
“Will be going back”
The Hotel was great - breakfasts and dinner lovely and the view from the dining room into Whakarewarewa was out of this world. Will be taking my children next time and I'm sure it will be hard to keep them out of the pool.
“Great View Good Price Nice Breakfast”
We had view overlooking the Rotorura Geyser, about 200 yards from the it. We spent hours on the balcony every day about every 3 hours to 3 1/2 hours it erupts...we didn't want to any where else...was a full hot breakfast too. Best spot in the area if you can get one of those rooms. Price was excellent too, offseason.
“Excellent location but advertised free internet not available (at any price)”
The hotel is very well located with a view of the Geysers and mud pots from most rooms in "8xx" wing. Rooms were comfortable and clean if a little tired. Note however that despite the listing of free in-room internet access, it was not available at all in rooms and only at a price via WiFi in hotel public areas. Other than this, I was pleased with the hotel and would stay again.
“Would return”
My family were very pleased with the hotel. The view from the balcony of the geyser and the bubbling mud was amazing. Though the hotel is about a mile and half from the centre of town this would not stop us from returning. Would certainly recommend a stay.
“Excellent value for money”
We enjoyed our stay. We were attracted by the great price and were anxious that the hotel would be a bit shabby given the price. But it was fine. Clean and functional with everything we needed and continental breakfast included. OUr daughter particularly enjoyed the view of Whakarewarewa from the room.
