“Excellent value”
I booked a room for two people on the ground floor to avoid stairs. When we arrived we had been allocated a room at the top and this was sorted out straight away - we were given an appt on the first floor with one bedroom, living room with quality sofabed and kitchenette, plus bathroom. The place was pristine, and beautifully landscaped gardens to chill out at the end of long days of sightseeing. I was slightly anxious about booking this as it was so cheap compared to other accommodation I had looked at (half the price). I can only assume this is due to the location but this isn't really a problem - the number eight tram stops two mins away and runs straight through the Trastavere area, around 10 mins on the tram. There is no hotel service as such - this is really a block of appartments, and a caretaker comes and goes all day. He wasn;t there when we arrived, but we called the mobile posted to the gate and he was with us within five minutes to book us in. Showers worked well, croissants left in the room every day for breakfast next morning, and a coffee maker. I would go back and recommend this as great value for money for independent travellers - it's not for you if you want all the fuss and nonsense of a hotel, or if you want to be right in the centre of the city.
“Great value. Just what we wanted.”
This hotel is a great bargain. There were four adults in our party and our room was great for what we needed; someplace to sleep and eat breakfast before a full day of seeing the sights of Rome. Located in the southern edge of Rome's Trastevere neighborhood, it was only a two 1/2 block walk to the number 8 streetcar that took us to the heart of the city. The room was small but sufficient. The bed's were comfortable. It took us a little time to locate groceries but when we did we were pleasantly surprised. There is a great bakery and gourmet food shop about 6 blocks from the hotel. There is a delightful garden that wraps around the building. The hotel's website has great directions from the airport.
“Exactly What We Wanted!”
When traveling to other countries I prefer to stay in more residential areas instead of in the touristy areas and that is exactly what we got at the Residenza. The room was very clean and and comfortable. The water got nice and hot, the room had its own water heater, and the view was great (we got to see the curch across the way from our room and overlooked part of the wonderful gardens.). Down one block and up the hill to the right is a nice restaurant that is reasonably priced with excellent food (the desserts are awesome.). Tram is close by and takes you to the city center. Since it is in a residential area most of the people did not speak english, so be ready with your dictionary!! The employees, however, did speak english. All in all it was a great stay!
“Will go back anytime”
Let`s start by ensuring that fellow travelers know that this is not a Hotel; it is and it work as an appartment hotel (Residenza). And perhaps the weaknessess and challenges that this Residenza presents have to do with that. The weaknesses are the lack of telephone and the lack of personnel. Attendants are present only when you arrive; other than that you are on your own. But the building is very well maintained, rooms are comfortable, with air conditionning; ample living room, kitchen and bathroom.
“It was ok”
the hotel was nice and people that works there respond promptly to any request
“Inexpensive, nice place”
Once you find Residenza Maxima, you will be very happy with this inexpensive studio apartment hotel. It's on a short, one way street so even people in the neighborhood don't know where it is but it's right off the main street, right next to bus/trolley lines. It was very clean and comfortable, lots of hot water, nice little kitchenette unit, beautiful yard with nice sitting areas, nice, helpful young man as manager. Great restaurant, MoMo's, is only 3 blocks away. Easy to get to the special Sunday market in Trastevere. Missing was a microwave and any TV channels in English. If I was going back to Rome for a week, I'd definitely stay here due to the low price.
“Simple, but good.”
i would come back. It´s a simples hotel, but ok.
“Not a hotel, but a good place to stay”
This place really is more like short-term apartment housing, and at times it was inconvenient to contact management (our electricity went off once and we had to call a number, then they called someone else to come to our room). Overall we enjoyed our stay - we were 5 adults in the apartment suite - there wasn't much extra room, but enough. The man who helped us when we had questions was very nice, and we enjoyed the neighborhood. It's a bit tricky getting to the main sites in Rome, though, between taking a tram, then a train, and sometimes then a metro. But if you're up for walking, you don't have to do all those.
“très bien”
Surtout lors de votre réservation demander une chambre dans les étages!!!!! nous avons eu une chambre en sous sol, et c'est horrible, il fait sombre! mais le valet de chambre à été super et nous a dégoté une chambre en rdc vue sur 2 faces du jardin dans un appartement pour 6 au lieu d'une chambre pour 2.... magnifique et bien situé à 15 minutes du centre par le tram, deux bus pour l’accès a Termini et un bus pour le Vatican.
“impressed with the amount of room, nothing else”
The amount of room you get in this hotel is brilliant, especially if you are staying over for more than one night. Our biggest issues with this hotel are the fact that the hotel is out of the way, which means you have to take a cab to get to all the tourist-y stuff. The only problem with that, though, is that 8 out of 10 cab drivers have never heard of the street the hotel is on and most Italian cab drivers get mad if you ask them to use the GPS (one of them cursed at us in Italian the entire drive back to the hotel) The other issue we have with this hotel is that there is no main "reception" area where you can talk to someone who works there if you have any issues or if you just want to check in. To check in, you have to call the number of the hotel...all well and good if you have your cell phone on you and if your cell phone can work overseas. Two ladies were trying to check into the hotel one day while we were there, and if my husband and I didn't happen to walk by and let them use our cell phone, who knows how long they would have stood there, waiting?

Trastevere - Monteverde, Rome, Italy: Across the River Tiber, Trastevere is a well-established boho chic quarter, full of local character. The patchwork of tiny, cobbled streets houses many bars, good restaurants and buzzing nightlife spots. There is also a treasure trove of medieval churches. In its own piazza, the beautiful Santa Maria in Trastevere has shimmering golden mosaics and was probably Romes first Christian basilica, founded in 222 AD.
