“Affordable hotel, great staff, w/in walking distance of most sites”
This hotel was a good choice for Rome on a budget. The building is old and the rooms could use some fresh paint, but both the cleanliness of the rooms and the helpfulness of the staff were excellent. Location is only 2 blocks from the metro B line (Victor Emmanuel II stop) and within easy walking distance from Termini Station. We were able to comfortably walk to the forum and other sites in the old city area in about 30-45 minutes, and most other sites could be easily reached via the metro. Overall, this was an excellent hotel for the price and we would recommend it to travellers looking to see Rome on a budget.
“amazing hotel”
the hotel is extremely clean and the staff are very efficient and friendly. its a small hotel in GREAT location. bed was very comfortable i havent had such a great experince in 4 star hotels. breakfast is very good with a great selection of food and coffee.
“This is the best hotel i have ever stayed in!”
This hotel was very clean very well organized and very friendly!! We had at first opted for an economy room which to say the least is very very small, but if you aren't spending alot of time in the room it really doesn't matter. Although we purchased the economy room they upgraded us (i never found out why, but when recieving an upgrade i choose to not rock the boat! :). ) We were upgraded to a suite which was extremly beautiful and very large which made our trip 10x better. This hotel was conviently located it was only a 10 min to the coliseum!! Honestly you could easily walk around Rome like we did from this hotel! The staff was very kind and helpful, they gave us great advice on restaurants and directions. the only downside is the breakfast really had no variety and the beds are rather hard, but these things would never make or break my stay here!! This hotel we will be returning to when we revisit Rome. GREAT to say the least, give it a shot!
“Good choice, Great location”
Excellent location, close to buses, trains, Metro, sights, restaurants. Our room was roomy, comfortable and clean. Minor problem with noisy toilet (but it worked!) and a broken fan in the bathroom. Very pleasant breakfast area and the breakfast was fine. The employees were professional and friendly. We did have a mix-up with the taxi pick-up but it was not a big problem. It would have been even better if the wi-fi worked in the room. A big plus was having a working elevator.
“Fantastic location but...”
The best thing about this hotel is its fantastic location. Its close to the main attractions - many of which are in walking distance. The tour bus stop is really close as well which is something I would highly recommend as its a good way to see the city. The hotel is also close to a supermarket and some nice restaurants. The only real problem with Hotel D'Este is the very poor / non-existant air conditioning. The heat in late August was unbearable with no relief whatsoever in your room which made it almost impossible to sleep at night. The room itself was much larger than we expected but the bathroom left a lot to be desired as the light was so dim it was difficult to see anything in there and the bath was a little stained. However the room was always clean and sheets / pillow cases etc. were changed every day so it was for the most part a good place to stay.
“very near important marian churches”
i was very pleased with my stay at hotel d'este. the staff were pleasant and helpful. the room was comfortable and decent for the price. very clean. for those on a spiritual holiday it might be particularly appealing as it is a very short distance from the basilica of st. mary major, and also the church of st. alphonsus, where the original icon of our lady of perpetual help is kept and on display. these are both very important to marians and other christians as well. the hotel is actually within about 200 meters from each site. in addition you are only about a one mile walk form the scala santa, the holy stairs, and also the basilica of st. john lateran, the original vatican. other roman sites are not far away either such as the colliseum and some other ruins. all in all i recommend the hotel to those interested in visiting. i would return.
“Not bad for the great deal I got.”
This hotel came with a package I bought through a travel website that included eight nights and non-stop airfare leaving on a Friday and returning on a Sunday. Based the going rate for that airfare, this room ended up being less than half of what the going rate was. The hotel is conveniently located only a few blocks away from Termini, yet far enough away that it's not in the super seedy streets that are immediately adjacent to the station. Right down the street is the lovely St. Maria Maggiore, and it's a half hour stroll straight to the top of the Spanish Steps. My room was a small single, similar to rooms I've had in both Paris and London. It was clean and seemed to be in decent repair. The bed was comfortable and the private bathroom/shower clean and with plenty of hot water. I was on the first floor and had a good wireless internet signal, though people on the higher floors may have had to do their networking on the lobby area. The hotel staff seemed perfectly amiable and language wasn't a problem. My main complaint is that they started cleaning very early(7:00 a.m.), and quite loudly, so sleeping in required the use of earplugs. Breakfast, which was included with my deal, was basic continental fare, but good. The TV didn't seem to get any channels, but as I wasn't in Rome to watch TV, I never bothered to inquire about the problem. Overall, I was more than satisfied for the price I got.
“good hotel”
Stayed here in febuary. rooms are small but i was alone so it was just enough size for me. my room was cleaned everyday and the location was grat for sightseeing. it was close to termini and within walking distance to several sights.
“A lucky find!”
The location was better than expected (loved the nearby cafes and gelaterrias). The breakfast was good and fresh. Rooms were clean, and spacious enough.
