“Perfect location”
We loved this hotel, especially its perfect location. So close to St.Peter's - I was in the church very early in the morning, just me and two Sisters in front of Michelangelo's Pieta - peaceful, beautiful, evocative, stunning, memorable- the echoing basilica quiet and full of cool light. So close that the Piazza is almost outside your door - when the crowds have gone, you have all the vast, welcoming space to yourself - ages past and present surge around you as you sit and look at St. Peter's feeling welcome, called home and calm. ( Choose the red tourist buses- no.110- as they are so frequent and go on and on almost all night; the yellow Roma Cristiana buses stop at 7pm, leaving the unwary stranded- but you can always walk anywhere in the warm Roman night and the hotel is never far from where you want to be. And taxis are reasonable if your feet are worn out.) Check your hotel/airport pickup includes luggage - our driver insisted on 7 euros per suitcase at the airport! Said our booking was for passengers only - not our cases(!) We had a wonderful holiday in the Eternal City - I wore out the soles from my 'comfy' shoes! You need a summer or at least ten years to see and enjoy everything.
“Ideal hotel for Rome”
Hotel Columbus suited our needs perfectly for a recent 5 day visit to Rome. Located in view of St Peters the original building dates from the 15th century and as you would anticipate from a once Cardinal's Palace is full of character and history.Apparently some of the bedrooms are on the small side but ours on the 2nd floor was large and well equipped. Breakfasts were very adequate and evening meals excellent served in either the charismatic dining room or in the large but secluded courtyard garden. All staff were well trained and those in reception particularly efficient, friendly and exceedingly helpful. Rome is an exceptional city and, for us, staying at this hotel complemented its amazing historical presence.
“Will recommend for location, character, and history”
We were only steps away from St. Peter's Square and could see the dome of the Cathedral right outside our window. The hotel had tons of character and history. The only thing we did not like about it was that the air conditioning was not working. We slept fine with the windows open.
“The perfect location”
This was the ideal base for a week focusing on Roman history, I liked the historical nature of the property and the fact that the furnishings were in keeping. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful, room service efficient, the breakfast was excellent, a variety including cold meats, cheese, yoghurts, cereals, fruit, bread and pastries, fruit juice, water, tea and coffee, marmelade, jam etc. The restaurant wasn't cheap, but the food was superb, and a real treat to eat in such frescoed surroundings. The greatest bonus was the location, with St. Peter's at the end of the road, ideal for events in the Vatican, and walking into the central part of the city took no more than 20 mins. Also plenty of buses, metro nearby etc. It was very special to be able to have late night walks around St. Peter's Square or Castel S. Angelo, or to pop into the Basilica early in the morning before the crowds got there.
“good location - old and clean”
I enjoyed staying in this hotel. It has a great location. The staffs are very helpful. I like the old building a lot. Breakfast is very good, although they don't have fresh fruits. The only thing that I dislike is the steps in my bathroom. After walking all day in Roma, I have to climb three steps to use the toilet... other than that, everything is wonderful. I will recommend this hotel to my friends.
“Hotel COLOMBUS,Rome:cadre histoirique,très bien situé”
Chambre confortable, salle de petits déjeuners magnifique,et hôtel situé idéalement pour découvrir la vile à pied.
“Hope to go back one day”
Loved the hotel atmosphere and location, we had room in the second floor overlooking the main road to the Vatican, could not asked for better view. Breakfast was also a plus.
“The real hotel!”
The hotel is situated very close to Vatican, you even can see St Peter Cathedral from the window. The hotel is very quiet, staff is very friendly and helpful. I reccomend this hotel to everybody!
“Charming hotel in ideal location!”
Only had 3 days to enjoy Rome and our stay at the Hotel Columbus made the visit fabulous! We had a room on the 4th floor with a view of St. Peter's dome and the courtyard! Our room was quaint and cozy with tub and shower. Heat worked well and we could open up the window if it got stuffy. Loved the location just as much. Just steps from the Vatican with all the holiday decor going up. We basically waleked to everything from the Colosseum to Spanish Steps, but there were buses nearby also. It felt safe and comfortable in this area. Even thought Rome doesn't seem to go to sleep, our room (even with a window open) was quiet at night. I'm afraid we didn't get to sample the food. We got a cheaper rate with no breakfast, but the dining room was quite a lovely sight. The fresh pine Christmas trees and decorations were a nice addition. We didn't have a lot of communication with hotel employees. No one was overly friendly or unfriendly. But I'm sure if we had needed some help or attention we would have gotten it. All in all, great visit and we'd be happy to stay again!
“Best location in Rome”
I've stayed at this hotel 3 times now and have loved it every time. It has a wonderful atmosphere & the luxury of a stroll around St Peter's Piazza first thing in the morning or late at night can't be underestimated. Although not in the centre of Rome, we varied our route into the centre each day (particular favourite is via dei Coronari) - a great way to get to know the city. Don't miss coffee/hot chocolate & cakes in the bar after a hard day sightseeing!
