Good location - 15 min walk to Vatican City

Posted 18-Aug-2014
Cons: Softer mattresses
Location: Not much nearby, however, there is a bus and a train around the corner and they have a free shuttle into Vatican City.
This hotel was perfect for our purposes. We wanted something with a pool since we were there in August. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our only complaint is that the mattresses were like sleeping on cement. If you like hard mattresses this place would be perfect!

Shocking location and rude staff

Posted 11-Aug-2014
Pros: It was clean and the rooms and bathroom were spacious.
Cons: The staff, and the wifi
Location: The Vatican is the only main tourist attraction in walking distance. About a 20 - 25 minute walk. There are no restaurants in the vicinity
The previous reviews were misleading in terms of the hotel location which stated it was a 'great location.' This was the opposite. The closest major train station to get into town was a 10 - 15 minute walk away. There was nothing in walking distance of the hotel, no restaurants or shops or anything. It wasn't a great area to stay in and I wouldn't recomened it. It took a good hour to see all the major sights. The staff were rude, dismissive and unhelpful. My boyfriend and I asked for help on many occasions on how to get places etc and found the staff to be unhelpful. The wifi didn't work at all at night. It worked fine during the day but never connected at night. When we asked a staff member and reception she got out her phone and stated 'well mine's working' and laughed.

Affordable hotel with friendly staff

Posted 10-Aug-2014
This is a very stylish hotel set in a residential area outside of the centre of Rome. The staff were lovely and we enjoyed our stay here. We had dinner in the hotel on one of our nights and the food was lovely. I would recommend The Grand Hotel Tiberio.

Couldn't fault it,

Posted 5-Aug-2014
Pros: Great breakfast, spotlessly clean, lovely big bed
Cons: Nothing
Location: Two or three great family run restaurants near by, cafe just around the corner
Read some crap reviews about how far it is from the centre of Rome, the hotel has a shuttle bus and is just around the corner from the train station and bus stops and if you're adventurous and reasonably fit take a walk

Great Experience

Posted 31-Jul-2014
Great location, near bus stops which takes you to downtown Rome. Or you can simply park you car to the parking near Cipro subway station for as cheap as 3 EUR 16 hours. Hotel is nice and breakfast is great. Would recommend to friends. Not good if you are not driving.

Decent hotel - unhelpful staff

Posted 30-Jul-2014
Hotel staff was unhelpful from arrival to departure. (1) Family room missing two beds upon arrival - told I booked incorrectly despite the booking instructions for one full and two single beds. (2) Waitstaff would not split a check and stormed of to front desk to complain about my request. Meal quality was marginal. (3) Asked the front desk for directions to the pool. Arrived at the pool only to find no towels. Another trip to the front desk only to be told that towels must be requested at the front desk...would have expected to be offered one when asking for directions! Pool was tiny, cloudy and in disrepair. (4) luggage porter was requested but never showed. Had to load myself while front desk staff watched on. Steer clear if value service.

Not convenient for sightseeing

Posted 28-Jul-2014
Pros: facilities were lovely
Cons: hotel map should have better bus directions. Example - Coliseum- Bus 990 transfer at pza Cavour for bus xxx
Location: 25 minute walk to Vatican
This hotel , while lovely, is not for the faint of leg or anyone with mobility limitations. The advertised shuttle runs only every 40 minutes from 8AM - 12Noon ish and holds only 8 people.( 6 runs at 8 people so 48 total). It runs only once in the early evening. The nearest Metro is 15 minute down a hill thru a working class area ( I live in a not gentrified area of NY city and walk everywhere so I am not a snob- just stating that its not scenic and the walk was strenuous). There is a regional train next door that can connect to the Metro. The most convenient is a city bus that is very close and runs close to Vatican and then to a plaza near the Tiber where you can walk to the area near the Spanish Steps- '10 minutes'. (We think in Italy everything is a '10 minute walk'. ) The hotel map does have buses listed for attractions but not how to get to those buses and the staff did not seem to know . The hotel itself is lovely and we enjoyed the garden and pool. My dad , who is 82, found a little rotisserie and had dinner there once- there is not much else in the area. We figured out additional buses and used taxis. In short = this is a lovely hotel but be prepared to plan your day carefully allowing 20-30 minutes for bus waits or long walks to and from the places you came to see.
