“Beautiful!”
The rating was only 2 star on line but when arriving found it to be elegant and charming. The staff was professional and helpful. I felt like I was in a 4 or 5 star hotel. Would definitely stay there again.
“Lovely, quaint family run hotel”
Hotel Donatello is a lovely hotel and I would definitely stay there if I was in Rome again. It's a small quaint hotel owned and run by a family, with very friendly and personal service. We were greeted at reception by the owner of the hotel who was very friendly and efficient. He checked us in promptly and immediately gave us a map of Rome, pointing out the main attractions and how to get there. What service! This map became our definitive guide and without him showing us where to go and what to see, we probably wouldn't have seen half of the attractions. We had a lovely little one bedroom room with en-suite bathroom and balcony. The balcony was the perfect place to enjoy a light dinner and cold beer after a hot day of sightseeing. All fittings and finish were of high quality and the decoration of the room and bathroom reflects the Italians eye for beautiful design. It has been the nicest hotel room I've ever stayed in. Breakfast is typical Italian (authentic) consisting of some of the finest coffee I've tasted, a croissant and a roll with your choice of jam and honey. Although seemingly small it kept us full and fueled the entire morning during hours of walking and sightseeing. The hotel is placed near the main station and has a tram stop right outside, so transport is good. Checking out was extremely easy. We simply handed in our key - that's it. No fuss. I highly recommend this hotel. You won't regret it.
“simply Rome”
Clean, centraly located hotel. We loved the coffee there! Close to Termini Station but we recommend walking, it is a lot better. Attractions are not too far.
“Pretty good hotel, nice people”
We really liked the Donatello, when you get there they give you a nice map that is really helpful, and circle the key places on it. Likewise the man at the front desk really went out of his way when we needed to leave. He got up and called us a cab at 4:30am. There were no alarm clocks in the room and that was a little annoying, we kept sleeping too late. Plus the area around the hotel to the termini station seemed sketchy. It was a little scary walking to and from. But overall the hotel was really good.
“very impressed”
Very impressed...room was lovely, cleaned every day, fresh towels etc. Staff very friendly and in a great location also. Would definately stay here again
“Great, family run hotel with easy access to metro and sights.”
The hotel is a small family run hotel with easy access to the metro which is all of five minutes walk away. The colosseum is ten minutes away and other major sights are within walking distance. There are plenty of restaurants within the vicinity offering late night dining if you want. The hotel is clean and although the breakfast is light, it was well prepared.
“Charming budget Roman Hotel”
While it's not located in the most convenient or desirable location, it's affordable and has the friendliest and most helpful staff (they speak English). About a 20-min walk south of Termini Station, it's about a 15-20-min walk from Santa Maria Maggiore and an additional 10-15 min-from the Colosseum. If you've ever been to Europe, you won't be surprised by the size of the room (it's rather small). The bathroom, while a nice size, has an incredibly small shower. The upside was the bathroom is equipped with a outlet converter (we could charge our American electronics without the purchase of an European converter). There are cafes and an internet cafe within a minute of the hotel. All in all, it's a hidden gem that fits the budget.
“Good hotel, worth considering”
Although a little far away from the main attractions this is an excellent hotel with good clean rooms and good service. Buy a bus map and your metropass and you easily overcome any travel problems on Rome's wonderful public transport system. Only disappointment is breakfast - croissant and roll every day, Ok but no choice. Friendly and informative reception.
“Great Hotel”
Great hotel, very friendly staff, great breakfast. Location seems bad at first but is actually very good.
“Amazing”
Located not far from the Termini Station, this snall hotel is a little gem. We were greeted by Signor Carlo and his wife Patricia. They were extremely courteous and extremely helpful. The room we stayed in was tastefully decorated and fully air conditioned - a must at the time of year we were visiting - end of July - and it turned out to be a mini heatwave. The room included A fridge Safe Flat screen TV Telephone Balcony Large built in wardrobe Fantastic marble bathrom with a shower Out door breakfast area - nice ad pleasant Location - 10 minutes from the Coliseum Travel ameneties close by include - trams, buses and the metro is within walking distance. We will not be surprised if in a year or so the hotel - through its refurbishment project which is coming along nicely - acheives a 4 star status All in all - Highly recommended
