“came with low expectations, and was delightfully surprised!”

In the heart of playa del carmen is 5th ave and the tukan hotel in the middle of it all. A perfect location if you want to stumble out of your room to all the great restaurants, bars,clubs,shops,and of course the white sandy beach. The hotel itself was like walking into a Polynesian jungle. We didnt want a resorty feel and wanted a place with character and charm. Tukan answered all of our wishes! The staff was warm and welcoming. The restaurant and 2 bars were great. If you eat in the restaurant ask for Arthuro he is the best waiter in the world! He pointed us to some great places and was spot on with everything. The rooms were so clean you could eat off the floor. Fresh towels and sheets daily. The only complaint i had was the water pressure and it tasted salty, also the bed was on the firm side. We got the all inclusive option. The food changed for the most part on a daily basis, but does seem a bit repetitive after a few days. The drinks were decent (only 2 local beers, and dont expect cosmos). The beach club is a 15 minute walk down the road which is fun because you can look at all the interesting shops on the way, or you can walk 2 minutes straight to the beach and then walk along the water. The beach club/bar was really nice, no food though. Overall it totally exceeded our expectations, and we will definitely be coming back!

“Great Value”

ok, this is no 5 star hotel but it is a good value. I was very happy with my stay. The service was great and rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel is located right on the main downtown strip so you can walk everywhere but it was not too noisy at night and they do a great job making the place feel more secluded than it is by all the great foliage.

This is the second time I have stayed at the EL Tukan Hotel. The location is ideal for staying in Playa del Carmen. The hotel is located 1 block from the beach, dive shop and all the good clubs. The place is always clean, the staff are helpful and professional. I'm sure I'll stay at this hotel again.

“Can't say enough good things!”

We loved this hotel. We stayed for a full week and do not have a single complaint. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The location was amazing. Just a few blocks from the beach and right in the heart of Playa Del Carmen. Lots of places to eat and shop. We took a day trip to Xel Ha, that the concierge helped us book and helped with transportation. The rooms were very clean and the maid service very efficent. The ONLY negative is that the pool is freezing, but our 3 year didn't care and swam in the pool almost every day! Highly, highly recommend

“Near the action-5th ave and beach”

Hotel Tucan was a nice palce to stay; located right on 5th ave. and 2 blocks to the beach. This is a real Mexican Hotel so if you are expecting an Amercian Hotel stay somewhere else. No coffee in the rooms, no phones, or hair dryers. We prefer this type of hotel when visiting Mexico so our stay was pleasant. The resturant has good food, pay extra for all inclusive. Make sure your room is on the same side as the swimming pool/resturant as the other side is very noisey.

Missed the comforts of American Hotels, but was comfortable with my room. The staff was extremely helpful and hotel was in the best location.

“Excellent Hotel Location”

It may not be the biggest or the best hotel in Playa, but if you want a hotel right in the middle of everything, this is it. There are no phones but free internet, so if you need to get ahold of someone, you can use that like did. The beds are holdovers from the Flinstones era so if you like soft beds, bring a mattress pad and it works just fine. It's walking distance to everything, the beach club is about 10 minutes away, to make it a lot nicer of a walk, go straight down the road to the beach and walk across the beach to the club, don't walk down the road, with no wind it can be brutal. Also, nothing in Playa starts until 11pm or so, so if you want the full effect of the place, sleep in and go out late!

“Decent hotel for the price!”

The Tukan Hotel rooms were clean and overall comfortable. The grounds were well kept, pool area was nice (although rather small), and on-site restaurant had a nice selection of entrees at a fair price. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better as it was within walking distance of many shops, nightlife and the beach. The rooms were somewhat dated and could stand to be updated with more current furnishings, bedspreads, lamps fixtures, etc. Towels were badly worn as well.

“beat expectations”

The hotel is on the main shopping street and close to the beach. The people were very helpful. I traveled with my daughter and asked for a room with two beds. Instead they gave us room en suite for no extra cost. The airconditioning was first not working but they had that fixed in no time and everyone was aware of the problem. Nice place to go to.
