“We love the Reef!”

We had the best honeymoon at the Reef! We went during the flu hype and it was a blast! There was barely anyone there so it was the best service ever and we never had a problem getting a chair at the beach! The Resort itself is so nice with the jungle gardens throughout and the setup makes you feel like you are actually somewhere tropical, not just at another posh hotel you could stay anywhere at. It is located close to 5th Avenue in Playa del carmen, which is a quaint little street with tons of shops. That was one downside to going to 5th Ave. when there's barely anyone there, the shop owners were pushy. As they said, there were more hunters than sharks, so to speak! The entertainment staff at the resort did an excellent job, every night there were fun things to do and the staff there are just fun to be around. We loved the snack bar and the ice cream bar! The buffet always had good food as did the restaurant, which was gourmet, so yummy! We will go back for sure!

“Beautiful!”

We booked this resort, site unseen and we're thrilled with our selection. It is not a huge resort which suited us perfectly. We had both our kids in tow and everything suited them as well (6 years and 2 years old). The food isn't five star cuisine but then we weren't there for the food. We were there for the Mayan Riviera and this hotel had one of the most beautiful beaches along the strip. We also got married on this trip and again the hotel far exceeded our expectations. Everything was wonderful, especially the staff - couldn't have asked for nicer people. I will definitely consider this hotel again should I return.

“THE BEST THE MAYAN HAS TO OFFER!!!!”

We travel every year and by far this was the best vacation ever. Compared to larger hotels, this hotel was only 200 rooms. The service upon check-in, maid service, restaurant service was excellent. Compared to other hotels where you have to wait in line for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and snack bars, this hotel did not have any line up. The room was beautiful, the beach was awesome. If you are looking for a party hotel, this is not the hotel for you. This is a place that you come to relax and have some romantic time with your husband or wife and just enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the mayan. The most that we could complain about was that our drain in the bathroom drained a little slow but that was it. This is absolutely a place that we would go to again in a heartbeat!!! It was definitely worth the price! There is nothing better than waking up in the morning to a monkey outside your patio door!!!

“A perfect resort-smaller resort -has everything you need-friendly personnel-CLEAN!”

The rooms are just right the personnel is friendly at all times the place is perfect because it is not a big resort the food is not the best (buffet) yet the 2 resort restaurants are great with nice plate presentations and wonderful service the night shows are fun presented by the fun staff yet if you're looking for nightlife and partying all night long, you won't get it at this place but you can always go outside of the resort and find some places (quite safe day or night) It is very clean... a constant maintenance of the place goes on all day. I tried the spa (massage) it was very good as well. The beach was not too big yet just right. The pools had many activities going on by the friendly staff. I was so impressed by the gardens and the perfect maintenance of it all. It all seems to work out just right.

“Great Experience”

This place is not huge and it's not fancy, but it's perfect. One minute you're in the beautiful jungle, and the next you're surrounded by blue water and sky. I don't understand how anyone can complain. The complainers should go to the "fancy" places. This resort really gives you a taste of Mexico. We were 100% satisfied. Great job to all the staff at the Reef! Olay Olay Olay!

“Great location and relaxed atmosphere”

This hotel is a grouping of three story buildings with 4 rooms per level. Our room was set among the trees with a small balcony overlooking a wooden deck built into a treed area. Very beautiful and quiet at night. I would recommend this hotel for someone who wants to be within walking distance of 5th avenue's restaurants and shops, but away from the bustle at the same time. The hotel is not fancy, but it is clean, and very comfortable, within a beautiful setting. Not for those who like things high end with over attentive service - this is much more "laid back" . The main down side was that there is a push for memberships and the first couple of days they were trying to push attendance at a presentation in regard to this. Also, the bicycles are very old and leave a lot to be desired.

“Great place to stay close to Playa”

We enjoyed this hotel a lot. Had a problem with the A/C in our room, but it was fixed within an hour. Great staff, and the lush vegetation and villas made it feel exotic, not just a big hotel on the beach. Good shows, and great food. 15 minute walk to 5th Ave. Highly recommended.

“great location”

We stayed at the Reef for one week in Feb. This is a good option for those looking for a laid-back vacation with good access to Playa del Carmen. The room had been recently updated and was more attractive than the pictures on the website show. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Our air conditioner was a bit sluggish and we heard from others who had problems with their a.c. as well. The staff was friendly but there were not enough staff in the buffet restaurant and drinks often ended up being "self-serve". We loved the out-door ice cream parlour which also served iced cappachinos. The beach was good especially when compared to other neighbouring resorts. We enjoyed being able to walk into Playa del Carmen.
