“Reef is great for families”
We visited the Reef for spring break with our three teenagers. The all-inclusive part worked well for their varying schedules and tastes. The hotel was at capacity so getting a chair by the pool was sometimes a challenge but doable. Having employees specifically in charge of entertainment was fun and our kids took advantage of all the activities. We chose this resort in part because of the on-site dive shop and they were extremely professional and accomodating. The only minorly disappointing thing was that the menus never change in the two restaurants that aren't buffet and half the items come with a charge calling into question the term "all-inclusive". The Reef was exactly what we wanted for this family vacation - clean, well-staffed and with the ammenities we wanted. We would return wtih our children but if it were just my husband and I we would opt for something a bit more upscale.
“Fantastically Relaxing”
Just got back from the Reef Playacar (Reef Club). Spent nearly a week relaxing on the beach in our choice of canopy bed or beach chair. Umbrellas were plenitful (to help with shade). Very few disturbances from hotel staff, other guests, or excursion/activity staff. Drinks were easily obtained and poured "stiff" from several bars, though no wait staff around to take orders. Guestrooms surrounded a beautiful "rain forest" - little breeze allowed for a few misquitos (don't forget the bug spray if sitting on the patios or balconies). Paid a few extra dollars to attend a special "Caribbean Show" on the beach one evening - was well worth it. Special buffet and intimate attendance was a great treat. A short 10-15 minute walk from street or along beach takes you directly to 5th Avenue shops, restaurants and bars - great in early evening to avoid the direct sunlight. Guestrooms were kept quite clean, though the tile flooring and relatively thin walls allowed sound from hallway, neighboring rooms and walkways to bounce around the room a bit (but with the beach and activities nearby, why spend too much time in the room?). Beach itself was very large and water very warm - sandy sea bottom was great on the feet and 3-5 foot water level extended about 50 feet from shore. Can't wait to get back!!!
“I would go back”
Everything was great! One problem the bed is horrible, too hard That is my only complaint
“Had a Great Time!!!”
We just got back from staying at the Reef Playacar, it was our first time to Mexico. We went before the busy season and things were really laid back. We arrived at the end of tropical storm Ida and stayed for 8 days (second week of November 2009). We had a wonderful, relaxing time. The resort was nice and clean, the food was good and the drinks were strong, we kept asking them to make them weaker. The only thing I didn't like were the beds, they were too small, we got double beds even though we requested king sized. The rooms are big enough to have at least 2 queen sized beds in them. They said we could trade rooms but we liked the location of our rooms so it was our own fault we stayed with the double beds and also we wanted to stay near our friends.
“New Year Vacation”
We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel!
“Clean, best beach area”
The Reef has a very nice beach area, as nice or nicer than any in the area. The grounds are very well kept and the staff is very service oriented. Be aware that the "concierge" is trying to get you to go to breakfast for a TIME SHARE presentation. Unless you want a time share, say NO right up front....it is NOT a requirement and eats up (wastes) you first morning there if you go. Nice stay overall.
“Excellent Service”
I was a little nervous when checking into our hotel - but that is not unusual. I am extremely picky about cleanliness and the level of service in any hotel I visit and my family (4 of us) can attest to my pickyness. The staff at The Reef in Playacar were consistently helpful and genuinely friendly. I have traveled to different hotels in the Caribbean and in Europe and the hotel staff at this hotel have the best attitude - easily beating out any other staff I have had to deal with. It was extremely refreshing to stay at a hotel where people actually want you to enjoy your stay and help you to do so. I would definitely return to this property. My 8 year old son never wants to stay away on vacation for long. This was the first time he asked to stay another day.
“good place for a relaxing holiday”
Good conditions of the resort, good maintainance of the premises. Clean rooms and good comfort. Simple but good food. Personnel is friendly and helpful. The beach is a bit too small.
“Nice”
It was a pleasure to be there
“Relaxing Vacation”
The reef was a very beautiful hotel and we loved the jungle theme. My husband and I had a great time just relaxing and lounging at the beach/pool. The ocean was very blue and pretty. We really enjoyed the mexican restaurant and the ice cream bar. Our room was very clean and the hotel staff was very friendly- we just said no to the timeshare talk and they didn't bother us anymore. We just wished they had more beer selection- no bottles or cans.
