When we arrived via the Shuttle we found the resort gates were licked and the resort was closed! We are non-Spanish speaking tourists. The language barrier between us and the shuttle driver was frightening to say the least. Expedia you disappointed me terribly because we were never notified the resort we bought and paid for was closed! No email, no call, no texts, nothing telling us why or even what the plan was to accommodate our being misplaced.

What property? I cannot review this property because when I arrived it was CLOSED and has been since the end of May! Imagine my friend Jackie Watson and I being turned away at the gate by a guard, not having been notified prior to arriving and wondering what the he'll was going on. And receiving an email the next day asking to review our stay- what a joke. We were told by Expedia that there was no shuttle service so we laid $45 American each for a return shuttle , only to find out later that all the resorts provide shuttles . We were eventually relocated to another resort but at the very least I would like a refund on the shuttle please.

Stay away from secrets
Secrets silversands- the secret is that it is closed and for weeks couples have shown up and like us, were turned away at the gates and told to find alternate accommodations. Only after being told to go to a sister property which was already full, and calling reservations, were we told they could accommodate us an hour away. Secrets does not want to loose your business so they wo t tell you in advance the hotel is closed, so they only tell you when you arrive and redirect you to one of their other properties. That way, you can’t take your business elsewhere as it is too late to cancel and book elsewhere. Thus is a highly deceptive practice and it ruined our experience. We had to pay out of our pocket to get to a sister property which was by the way inferior.

I didnt like that there was only a dress code for men in the restaurants. Women could wear anything they wanted to wear, but men had to wear a shirt, etc. Found this quite sexist. Otherwise, the hotel is great, and the staff are friendly and nice. Food is delicious and the pool side games are fun to play.

Still a great hotel but not the best for price
This was our third trip to Secrets Silversands, 4 years since our last visit. We feel it's still a top quality hotel but has lost its sparkle. The staff are mostly providing a 5 star service, however we feel the maids and turn down service was poor, always looking for a reason to avoid the work. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary in the first week and my wife's birthday towards the end of our 2 week stay. For our anniversary a celebration banner was placed on the front door and a bottle of champagne (spakling wine) were provided on the first day, a great start. The second week our room was cleaned late afternoon and was very rushed, we ran out of toilet paper and it took 2 days to rectify the situation. My wife's birthday came, no sparkling wine or banner on the door. On previous visits they went the extra mile with wine, chocolates, rose petals and congratulation letter. This time a note was put under the door while we were out for dinner with a happy birthday message. Drinks in plastic glasses at the Martini bar seemed to show more money saving. Still a very nice resort but there are better in this price range. Excellence plays Mujeres has set the highest standard for us in this class of hotel. The Sports bar has needed a refurb since the hotel was opened, Breathless set the highest standard for sports bars and Silversands need to look at this big mark down.

The booze was a good variety and quality. The wait staff gave outstanding service and were very friendly. Room service was awesome. It was timely and the food was hot. Restaurants didn’t need reservations, which is exactly what you want on vacation, and the food was excellent in them all. I thought the jewelry store needed prices on the items because I don’t want to dicker on prices at a hotel shop.

Overall, very nice resort, but there were a few problematic things here and there. Our room was right next to the maid service room. It was extremely noisy starting 6am. The house keeping would come in around 1-3pm, during the peak sun time when I wanted to relax inside. A couple of times our room was simply skipped (no, the do not disturb sign was not up). In other times dirty towels were taken away, but clean ones were not given, happened twice. I had to call to request them. Hair was not cleaned from the shower. Empty plastic bottles and glasses were not removed from the room. Fridge was not replenished with water, had to call and ask for this. Another disappointment was the beach itself. It was too small and too much seaweed, which made swimming in the water impossible. The pool areas were lovely, which is where we ended up staying. Food was great. All in all, enjoyed my vacation, but would not come back to this property.

The property was well maintained and easy to access all areas. Only negative we have to offer is the beach, there had been no mention how rocky and narrow the premium club beach is. There is very little shade available in that section. There should be more information provided for perspective guests to make informed decisions prior to making a decision on their vacation purchases. Other than that had a wonderful time.

The recommended process it’s to bury it under the sand as it will turn into sand itself naturally. Would definitely go again... how about tomorrow?
They are very accommodating. Food and drinks were great. Great choice for an adult only vacation. Rooms could use a bit of upgrading. But overall a beautiful facility. You are pretty pocketed into the resort unless you arrange transport, but that was fine with us.

Silversands was a perfect honeymoon destination with an extremely helpful and friendly staff. The food was very good at the various restaurants with our favorite being Portofino, the Italian restaurant. One of the nights the pianist, Alejandro, took requests and played some of our favorite songs. The options for various excursions are easy to access and purchase, we did not have to convert to Pesos the entire trip. Our only minor complaint is with regards to our patio jacuzzi. It was broken the first few days, and after fixed, was unusable due to the amount of bugs. Our outside light was on an automatic timer, but wasn’t working and stayed on the entire time.

Everything was very nice. The only thing that I didn't care for that I normally love about Dreams/Secrets is the entertainment. The night time entertainment was horrible (except for Rock Show) We were with a big group and though they'd entertain during the day but all they wanted to do was play volleyball or work out in the pool. We asked numerous times for bocci ball but they just laughed at us cause that wasn't in the schedule. No one wants to work out while you've been drinking.

The resort was clean and well maintained. The staff was attentive and concerned that everyone was having a great vacation. Worth it to pay for preferred club. The wine included in the all-inclusive was bad. We couldn’t enjoy the ocean because of seaweed and rocks.

There needs to be more beach chairs. I had to get up at 6:45 to get chairs for the day. You can pay attendant to reserve for you, but you must still, “mark you chairs” with personal belongings.

We love this place and keep returning. We came for our honeymoon in 2009 and with exception of 3 family trips to the dreams resorts we have returned to Secrets every year. The food is great. The room views are beautiful and the pool is great to lounge by.

The pools were nice but the amenities were a bit dated. It felt like a resort geared for 55+. They also have strict seating policies so if you are a party of six or more be prepared to have to buy bottles or sit separate even if the restaurant is empty.

The staff were very accommodating. I needed a wheelchair the entire time while we were there, it wasn’t an issue. The pools were amazing, I think there are 8 or 9. The food was mostly good. The Bordeaux and Hitmisu we very good. Portifino and El Patio we’re okay. The breakfast buffet was also very good. We only really enjoyed the one night of evening entertainment. Our room was large and had a view of the infinity pool and a distant view of the ocean. The bed was very comfortable. The housekeeping could have been a bit better, especially because we upgraded to the Preferred Club. Alex our pool concierge, Phillippe our pool server were both wonderful Jean, Jerrica and Victoria in the Preferred Club were all cheerful and helpful. They knew what to do and how to do it. thank you !

Service staff and entertainment staff very friendly. Service staff at entertainment (Axel and Charlie), poolside bars (Juan) and restaurants (Kandor at buffet) were great. Resort in general was a little “tired”. Not a big resort, but big enough. Thought nigh time shows started way to early and ended to quickly. We were usually at dinner when the shows were already over. Went with a group of 8 people (4 couples)... dinner for 8 of us was a chore. Flat out told no a couple times... but could sit us at side by side tables 5 feet apart (but was told we not allowed to push tables together which was annoying)... or (and here’s the main reason in my opinion) if we would buy a bottle of wine they could do a party if 8. We shouldn’t have to feel pressured to buy a bottle of wine so our party, who already spent thousands of dollars to be there together, could eat dinner together. That policy alone would probably prevent me from returning to this resort in the future.

The food was great. Hotel needs updating. There were tarps on roofs ...leaks in the ceilings. The walking paths need to be more slip resistant when wet as well as in the rooms. The floors are too slippery. And the entertainment team needs to be better. More energetic and better games

Staff was excellent and service was great. Despite having rules against "reserving" chairs, all the chairs were "taken" by 7:30 am. For this reason I would be hesitant to come back to this property. The beach was not very inviting either. Other than this, the resort compares favorably to others.

The facility was beautiful. Big enough to find space but not too big it took long to get places. It was private relative to other resorts. When I first checked in they gave me a partial ocean view despite having paid for an ocean view. She said it was an ocean view room vs an ocean front room. I slept there three nights until I realized there was a price difference for partial vs ocean view vs ocean front. After speaking to the front desk they moved me to an ocean view room with a great view. Also I tried to add an additional person and they wanted to charge $250 per night despite Expedia quoting nearly $350 for the whole stay. That was absurd. They reduced it a little but still way too much. Otherwise the staff is amazing and the food was amazing! I’d go again and probably be better off knowing what I know now.

The property is very nice and up to the standards of other Secret's resorts. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Drinks are plentiful and bar staff very good. Daily entertainment around the main pool. Lunch at the main pool always good. The Dinner dress code for Men is enforced, no long pants and closed shoes no service. Not a big deal but this was the only Secrets we have been to that it was actually enforced. Been to 3 others that did not enforce and wound up having to wear my jeans every night to dinner.
