“Gotta Try It”
This place rocks for at least a night or two. The menu and food was excellent, location great, beach and room were just what we were looking for!
“Papaya Playa is great for budget travelers!”
The location is beautiful, the staff friendly, and the food excellent.
“Tulum's best beach side bargain”
We spent 10 days at Papaya Playa in Tulum, QR, Mexico in early April. We really enjoyed our stay. Now if you want 5 star luxury, this is not the place. But if you like staying in an easygoing place where you do not want to be bothered with things like TV etc, this is the place. Our room had no electricity, but we did not need it. We were within 50 feet of the beach, with always a cool breeze. our Palapa (thatched cabana) was a delight. It was a most relaxing vacation. Prices were reasonable and the staff were very friendly. Most of the guests were from Europe. Many Americans want a fancier place to stay. There were not safety issues there either. All and all We will stay there again next time we go to Tulum...
“Great Place”
great place to visit! the hotel is great, within what's offered
“Great place for ecolo/rustic hotel/poor bedding”
Arrival was fine and accomodations according to booking. Papaya Playa looks like the pics on their website: great location, beautiful, "rustic", simple, good restaurant (most restaurants in the Tulum area are very expensive - California pricing & services very slow), great beaches. Downside: the quality of the beds: really, really bad! I am not a picky sleeper and was there with my two teenagers....we all complained. Mattresses need to be changed!!! I do not know if all rooms/villas had the same issue but ours: Villa 2, definitively had very uncomfortable beds. The green/ecolo side of the place is OK although I feel there is so much more to do, especially with water: no access or possibility of refill of cantines for example (even if we had to pay for it). Got to buy these plastic water bottles all the time! Voila, great location; otherwise, tons to do: biking, hiking, scuba diving (fantastic cenotes), snorkling, etc. Front desk helped in many ways and had good advice or recommendations. No need to rent a car: public transportation from airport is great (no need to pay expensive taxis neither), then easy access to everything with rental bikes or cabs if needed.
“cabanas on the beach-nice”
The inexpensive cabana we stayed in was not fancy at all, a one room several feet above the ground and you can see through the floor boards. There was a a sink, a twin bed covered in a canopy. Our cabana had a bathroom, a lot of the others cabanas had to share bath and shower areas. We actually ended up using the shared showers because we never had hot water. The electricity runs on a generator and the generator is turned off after 10 pm and on at 5 pm. The restaurant was a little pricey, foods okay, but there many other options a mile or less down the road. We had bought beer and snacks, but your not allowed to take food or drink into your cabana. They said because it draws animals to your cabana. Now with all that said, the beach is beautiful, having a cabana right on the beach was awesome. Listening to the waves all night for $$ dollars was priceless. The cabana was clean, the shared bathrooms and showers are spotless. The beach is pristine and nice to lay out and have a drink brought out to you. The people that work there are very helpful and friendly. If you can afford it stay in the fancy cabana, they are larger and completely enclosed. They look more comfy. If you go when it's cooler at night, buy a tourist blanket, you'll need it.
“coming back real soon”
Fully enjoyed our stay it was exactly as advertised and we lovede every minute of our stay we will be back very soon. It is not for everyone but it is for us
“Bummin on the Beach”
This spot is a hidden gem. It's great to relax on the beach and even occasionally go for a cocktail. Sand does make it's way into your room, but what can you expect living right on the beach? If it gets to be too much of a problem, you can always stop by the front door in the morning to drop your keys and when you return, your room will be once again pristine.
“Peace, beauty and Beer :)”
I have traveled to Tulum a few times, this is my first stay at Papaya Playa, but we will be going back! The staff is very nice and helpful. The food was good and the beach was wonderful. This is not a Hilton, so do not expect room service or even an electrical outlet in your cabana. If your looking for a pool, waiter at the beach, night life with music and dancing than no way is this for you!! It is very down to earth and simple. I wouldn't say it is for those who like to papmer themselves. If your looking for a wonderful beach, nice people, relaxing days and nights than this is it!!! The view from our cabana was priceless!!!
“Best Ever”
Paradise! After years of doing all inclusive vacations Papaya Playa was like a breath of fresh air. Waking up each morning to the sight of the beautiful beach and ocean made all the difference. The rooms were simple and chic, no excess, no glitz, just comfort and beauty. The food was delicious and very healthy; the staff, relaxed, friendly and young; the yoga classes an added bonus. We were decidedly older than most of the guests yet were made to feel right at home. This is an hotel that blends with its surroundings and compliments them rather than competes. If you need a television, hair dryer or swim-up bar this is not for you. If on the other hand you want a stylish, relaxed, authentic beach experience Papaya Playa is your place.
