“Mosquito Blue looks even better in person than in these photos!”
This hotel is beautiful! The pools and reading room are the perfect way to spend a lazy day or evening. The location is great for walking to all the best shops, restaurants and night clubs. We ate at a different place every meal and they were all fantastic. Our representative from Best Day was SO helpful making all our local travel arrangements and was ALWAYS on time. My only complaints were that the room smelled extremely musty and we had to keep the A/C set VERY cold to keep the smell down and there was no dresser to store your clothes. Even though we had a lot of rain, our trip was great thanks to the wonderful people(and scenery)of Mexico!
“Would recommend to anyone thinking about a trip to Mexico!”
Mosquito Blue was great! I have been home less than a week and have already sent my itinerary to several friends looking for a wonderful "get away." Playa still has an authenticity you don't find in many vacation destinations and Mosquito Blue made the stay comfortable and romantic. Totally recommend the Deluxe Room...can't beat the balcony and courtyard/pool. Enjoyed some wonderful wine and a lovely dinner street-side at the Glass Bar on our final night...Highly recommend this trip and hotel particularly for someone looking for an easy long weekend "holiday." GREAT alternative to the "resort" scene.
“Will definitely be back!”
My husband and I just got back(3/15-3/21/05), and Mosquito Blue was the perfect hotel for this trip. The pools and common areas really do appear as they do in the website pictures, if not more beautiful. The building architecture, the landscaping, etc, all seem like "quintessential Mexico," very befitting this town. We did not experience ANY of the rude behavior in the hotel staff that I read about on some of the fall 2004 reviews. The staff was EXTEREMELY courteous and helpful. The nearby construction that was also a problem for previous visitors is complete. The ONLY problem is the rocking night club just across the street--the thumping woofers really don't get rolling until between 2 and 4 a.m. I will ask for a room in the back courtyard next time. BRING EAR PLUGS--we did, and were glad for it. A definite find!!!
“Exceeded expectations!”
We stayed at Mosquito Blue on 5th Ave and Calle 12 (or 14?). We LOVED it. If you don't like the huge all-inclusive's and cafeteria style eating, I would definitely recommend that you stay off of 5th Ave. What a cool area of town! We really enjoyed the quaint boutique-style of Mosquito Blue and had NO problems with noise whatsoever. We loved that we could just step outside of our sanctuary right onto the action of 5th Ave. The pools were great and no fighting over lounge chairs, screaming kids, loud music, etc. The rooms are nice, but small. The mattress was hard as a rock, but we hear all the beds are like that in Playa. It was clean and very pleasing to the eye especially at night! Wow! The staff was very nice and helpful. The beach is very close (less than 2 blocks) or you can go the 10 blocks and go to another public beach to get free lounge chairs (big deal). The food: We found that the food was not spectacular in Playa. But we did manage to find some places that we liked enough to go back to. For Breakfast: right across the street is Media Luna. Once we found that place, we never ate anywhere else for breakfast. They had a special "hot cakes with warm mangos and strawberry's and warm sweet cream" YUM. I asked for it the next day too.For lunch: 100% Natural was good and healthy. Great fruit drinks and great guacamole. For dinner: La Parilla was great (fun atmosphere and good food) and we also liked Chico Latino for Italian/Argentinean food.
“Amazing hotel”
Mosquito Blue Hotel & Spa is a wonderful get-away boutique hotel right in the heart of Playa del Carmen. Location is perfect. And the hotel was a pleasant escape from the "too-trendy" hotels of the day. It was warm, inviting and peaceful. One of the more quiet hotels, yet a step away from all of the fun Playa has to offer! Staff was extremely helpful, attentive and nice. Felt very welcome and safe. An absolute gem!
“Perfect Vacation!”
My husband and I stayed at Mosquito Blue for 6 nights and we couldn't have asked for a better hotel! It had the perfect location, great atmosphere, and an extremely helpful and courteous staff. We felt that the beds were just right, not too soft and not too hard. We had no problem with noise. The A/C worked exceptionally well and we loved our balcony! I would definitely recommend a "Deluxe" room--they are the only ones with the balconies. The very very minor faults with the hotel are that there are no full-length mirrors in the rooms, nor is there a ventillation system in the bathroom. So when you shower, the mirror becomes steamy and the floors damp. Next time I'm in PDC, I'll definitely be going back to Mosquito Blue again!
“Sophisticated Oasis”
Mosquito Blue Playa Del Carmen is an absolutely beautiful and serene property. The Italian owners brought their contemporary European sensibility and style to the Playa while maintaining a Mexican feel. The property is fully enclosed, an oasis in the middle of town, with a short walk to the beach. We stayed toward the front of the property and at night we did experience the energy of the street nightlife; however, being from South Beach, Florida, we like that alive vibe. Our room and the grounds were absolutely clean and well kept. The front desk speaks English and the staff (including the restaurant) is extremely professional. The restaurant and bar are excellent, great food and Italian wines. Do not expect a lot of chit chat initiated by the servers, this is an Italian establishment where service is executed in a manner that respects your private moment. Mosquito Blue delivers the 5 star experience that sophisticated travelers expect.
“Large jetted tub in the center of town”
This may not be an overriding reason for a lot of people to book this hotel, but what convinced me to try Mosquito Blue was the fact that a few of the rooms have a large jetted tub that comfortably fit two tall people. You need to book a Master Suite to get the tub and unless there are four of you, this might not be cost-effective. The hotel is right in the center of the action in town - lots of good restaurants, clubs and music within a couple of blocks. The beach is two blocks away and Mosquito Beach is two blocks south once you get to the beach. They were very accommodating with their black queen sized beach mattresses. The pools at the hotel are deep and inviting and refreshing. They could probably use a few more pool chairs. Some people complain about the noise from the nightclub a few doors down. Our room was on the lower level by the back pool. We could barely hear the thumping of the bass all night so unless you're a light sleeper, this won't be a problem. Maintenance and cleaning staff were present and busy all day and into the night. The rooms could have used a refrigerator; we had to clear out the minibar to store beverages. I'd definitely book the place again, with or without the tub.
“Great location. Nice atmosphere at the hotel. Would definatley go back”
Could not have asked for anything more. Great hotel and location for the price. No complaints of noise. Loved the Mosquito Blue - and staff was extremely pleasant.
“We had a great time”
My husband and I recently stayed at the Mosquito Blue. We had a wonderful time. The hotel was more beautiful than it appeared in pictures. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location could not have been better, very close to shopping and numerous restaurants. The beach club was a bit of a walk, but definitely worth it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a laid-back vacation to Playa.
