Mosquito Blue Hotel’s design elements stand out with its mix of contemporary European style and tropical Caribbean colors, created and designed by its Italian owner. The décor is tropical chic, a mixture of modern elegance with casual tropical living. The curving pools are surrounded with subtle lighting hidden among the tropical plants and winding paths to help achieve the mood. The center-piece is the palapa-thatched two story open-air ‘tent’ with a sofa and cushions below, and a billiard table above. In the upper sitting area, guests enjoy a complimentary petit dejeuner in the morning of tea, coffee and fruit. Padded seats carved into the stone create a convivial meeting spot. Just three blocks away is Mosquito Blue’s beachfront sister hotel, where guests can enjoy a private beach club with day beds, lounge chairs, towels, food and wait-staff.

Dining
Mosquito Blue Restaurant and Lounge has been a trendsetter in Playa del Carmen, unequaled in quality and sophistication of both its menu and design. When it opened in 2003, the restaurant became the first in Playa to offer a chic gourmet dining experience on the popular 5th Avenue, in the heart of Playa del Carmen’s tourism district. A team of Italian chefs transforms ingredients from the Mexican Caribbean kitchen into a delicious Mediterranean Italian culinary experience. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Full bar with emphasis on wine, both by the bottle and glass. Enjoy a superb collection of Italian wines carefully imported just for Mosquito Restaurants. Open for dinner; no reservations required. Open 6 pm-12pm, casual.
Our sister property, Mosquito Beach Hotel also features a restaurant serving lunch and breakfast. Located just two blocks north, Mosquito Beach offers a casual atmosphere and the fresh seafood ingredients with cuisine served at the open-air restaurant/bar and at beachside lounge chairs.
Recreation
In addition to the hotel's two deep pools, the hotel has a private beach club at its sister property Mosquito Beach located just two blocks away. The beach club is complete with lounge chairs, towels, and wait-staff service. Numerous recreational activities are available in the Playa del Carmen area, from snorkeling to sky diving to kayaking. Several golf courses are within a 15-minute drive; the closest is about 1.5 km (one mile) away in the resort community of Playacar. The recreational activities listed below are available either on-site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

“Great boutique hotel in Playa del Carmen”
Excellent overall. Great location, lovely boutique hotel and very good staff. A quieter option away from the beach scene but still walking distance to everywhere.
“Great staff!”
My how Playa del Carmen has changed. This hotel is seemingly at the epicenter of nightlife. And next door to a night club. On the weekends this can be a deal breaker for those in search of peace and quiet unless you are in a room far away from the street. This is one of the very few shortcomings I can think of with this hotel. The staff is genuinely fantastic giving just the right level of service, not too much or too little. Breakfasts and an enjoyable beach experience are served up by their sister property- Mosquito Beach. Both properties are very well landscaped, well designed, and appropriate for the surroundings. Both properties have a good cross section of guests: Americans, Italians, French, Brazilians, straight, gay. All young at heart. After one day the staff will remember you by name, greet you with a smile, and ensure you that they will do what they can to make sure you are having a great time.
“Great private, clean, friendly place to stay.”
The hotel was very quiet, very clean, very private pool area. The staff was very friendly. If you want a really nice relaxing vacation, with no stress or noise. I would recommend this hotel. Within walking distance are all the busy, city streets, restaurants, vendors and all the fun you can possibly imagine. The beautiful ocean is just 2 blocks away. Highly recommended.
“Mosquito Blue and Mosquito Beach are the best in Playa!”
We greatly enjoyed our recent stay at Mosquito Blue in Playa Del Carmen. The hotel is just off the famous 5th Avenue shopping district, and is welcoming, small and elegant. There are two internal courtyards each facing a lovely pool, and despite the hotel being in the center of town, the rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable. We dined one evening in the hotel restaurant which faces 5th Avenue and the food was delicious and the service excellent. At check in, the front desk staff offered a coupon for a free bottle of wine, which made the somewhat pricy meal go down more smoothly. There are two internal lounges in the hotel, one with a pool table and the other with comfortable seating. The upper one has fresh fruit and coffee each morning and is a great place to read. The excellent breakfast is served buffet style at the sister hotel, Mosquito Beach which fronts on the ocean a few blocks away. Mosquito Beach also provides lounges oceanfront for Mosquito Blue guests at no additional charge. Most oceanfront hotels in Playa charge for the use of their beach accommodations. Be sure to tip the deserving staff!
“quiet, lush environment”
We spent a week at the MB and were delighted with our experience. It was a luxery for us as we are usually hostel or cheap hotel types. The rooms are small and have no table but the outdoor spaces are just beautiful--the perfect place to relax. The MB's beach is close and lovely but the drinks were overpriced and weak. We recommend the MB--it is a lovely, quiet refuge close to all the action of 5th ave. Hotel breakfast is a fantastic bargin.
“Saving up for our next trip!!!”
This was a great hotel! The room was beautiful; the restaurant was nice; and most important of all, the staff was terrific! They made our stay that much more enjoyable. We were long overdue for a vacation like this so we were hoping that we would be pampered. The Mosquito Blue didn't let us down. We can't wait to see all the great folks that we met during our first trip. We both liked the The Glass Bar (restaurant) as well. Give them a try!!
“I wanna go back NOW!”
Mosquito Blue has a great location - half a block from 5th Avenue and 2 blocks from the beach. The staff is great and the hotel is what you think a hotel in Mexico should be (except this one has free high speed internet access). My wife and I loved it and want to go back NOW!
“"Engagement Trip Hotel - AWESOME!:"”
This hotel was excellent, from the excellent customer service, to the manicured grounds and beautiful rooms, and best of all the excellent location. We were within walking distance of everything. The hotel staff bent backwards to make our hotel stay the most pleasant we have ever had. We did not eat or drink at the hotel at all though so i cannot comment on that aspect. We will definitely stay here again when we go back to Playa.
“Grat Experience at the Mosquito Blue”
Ver nice boutique hotel, cozzy rooms and excellent service. The hotel si well located near good restaurants, bars and discos. Very quiet that let you relax and with access to the beach club of the Mosquito Beach Hotel wich is quite elegant and perfect to take a rest. Is our second trip to the Mosquito Blue and will not be the last one.
“Nice hotel, centrally located”
The customer service was excellent. The hotel was well maintained, and the staff was very pleasant and laid back. No bar area, no gym - small quaint hotel, centrally located. However, sister hotel - Mosquito Beach- was fully at my disposal as well. Reliable, hot water, air conditioner - no hassles. Simple yet nice.
