“A great escape from the Hotel Zone”
We stayed in the Hotel zone (Cancun) for 5 days and moved here to have some peace. The stay was wonderful with great beach access in the front of the Villas. the room was comfortable and very clean. Very quiet at night ...much different than Cancun. We did watch TV at night; not very many choices. Free Wi-Fi compared to $20 usd per day in Cancun. The breakfast consisted of pancakes, cereal, rolls and fruit. Plus you could order off a menu that was reasonable priced. Very nice kitchenette in the room One plus hour from the Airport. A short drive up the freeway (1.5 miles) or it's a long walk on the beach to town. There was food at the beach town of Akumal plus if you drive past the public beach on the access road there are more restaurants. You can snorkel at the Villas beach or at the public beach. Best to bring your own gear but if you rent, the parking area probably had the beat deals. The gear on the beach is second rate @ about $25 usd per person per day. They have a couple of small food stores in town but You will really want have a car to purchase the bulk of your groceries about a 15 minute drive north. the price and selection is much better. The bottom line is we will be back.

Akumal - Kantenah, Quintana Roo, Mexico: Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watchers paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.
