“Yucatan 2011”
It was an amazing place, the service was very helpful and the room was clean, but I can say that the breakfast is just european style that for me is more than good enough.
“8 Days in Tulum”
The location of the hotel is spectacular. The beach is romantic and quiet with turquoise water with constant waves (not a strong riptide either). There is sand tight up to your door (and, as a result, often on the floor of your room) The rooms are spartan, a bed a few shelves and a bathroom. The advertised breakfast is terrible, crappy packaged croissants, juice boxes, cookies and instant coffee, Luckily all you need is a very short walk away and there is a nice cafe that does breakfast and good coffee right across the street. Wifi works 23 hours a day (5-6 pm is hard to connect). The hotel staff are friendly and hard working. The attached resto is great, super steak and ceviche and Ivan (the manager) is cool, speaks English, and is a pleasure to deal with (he should get a big raise). Right next to the hotel is a tour company that rents cars, bikes, scooters an hooks up tours. Bikes are about $10/day, scooters $40 (I think) and so on. I recommend taking cabs to the Tulum Puebla (town) and taking the bus everywhere - it's cheap and quick. Or hiring a cabbie to take you everywhere you need to go - we hired a guy who took us to for a full day (10am-6pm) for $60US. Great deal. Overall the hotel is lacking but you can't beat the location. Tulum is the best place I have been and I will definitely go back... but maybe not to this Posada as there are plenty to stay at on the strip. If you are looking to get away
“Best Ocean front Cabana”
Tulum is great! Our Cabana was the best in the place. Great balcony and ocean front....Food not so great....
“posada punta piedra”
“Incredibly Loud. but awesome beach!”
When staying at Punta Peidra we were impressed with the staff, and the beautiful beach. But sleep is important, and that was hard to come by with the loudness of the kitchen staff and their radio. Rooms booked on the internet are right next to and above the kitchen, which stays open late. Keys for one of our rooms was very difficult to use, and required asking staff to help us get in after 10 minutes of trying. Never have seen a key like it. Staff was great, beach was awesome, and cerviche was the best ever. So, over all, we were happy. Wifi was great for the kids. For the price, we got a good deal.
“Not overly impressed”
Our room was up stairs even though there were vacant rooms down stairs, no view of beach or ocean. Nosiy at night. Other rooms had balanies or porches to sit out in, not ours. The staff was helpful and helped make reservations at Rio Secreto, a cave tours. Highly recommend it. The place was overpriced for what you got.
“Dissapointed with rooms”
A week or so before leaving we read some new reviews about this hotel on expedia complaining how the room was right next to the Kitchen and very noisy. We emailed the hotel letting them know we hoped not to have this same experience. They assured us our room was not this same room. It was on the second floor and faced the rear (not the kitchen). We, instead, were right on top of the kitchen and still heard everything. We had no deck, no outdoor seating (which most other units did have) and no where to hang bathroom towels, drying bathing suits, etc. The staff was very nice, but they would not change our room without us paying an upcharge of over 50% per night.
“Never again”
We obviously asked to change room but no other room would accommodate 4 guests and we had to pay 2 rooms if we wanted to change. We did not accept this offer despite the ridiculous discount proposed (Seriously, am I here to beg for money?). We said we would prefer to leave but they refused to refund... So we eventually kept the room. Sleeping before 11:00pm was a challenge as you could hear noise from the kitchen (music, dish washing...) and from traffic on the street... You would obviously wake up early for the same reasons + Low quality curtains wouldn't keep the room dark. Breakfast is extremely basic (I don't think we can even call it "breakfast") but we were already too disappointed to complain about it... The location is nice but this is not enough to make me feel good about my stay there as there are a lot of nice public beaches in the area of Tulum anyway. Keep your money and stay away from this place. You could have a basic room in the center of Tulum for few hundreds pesos: I don't think our room in Punta Piedra was worth much more than this.
