“Beautiful, comfortable, relaxing”
This is a beautiful resort, with extremely comfortable rooms-think Four Seasons. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was really good, sometimes the buffet was a little cold. A la carte dining at the Mexican restaurant Frieda was excellent, the Japanese and Italian restaurants were O.K. to good, but not great. Adults only Autour restaurant was very good. We were here over March break and stayed at "Master's Suites". If you are staying here, be aware that it is about 1km from the beach. There is, however, a shuttle which you never have to wait for. We would have liked to walk, but at current, there isn't a sidewalk, or path. Even though the hotel was at full capacity, it was very quiet and relaxing. Plenty of chairs around beach and pool and great waiter service everywhere!
“Beyond expectations”
This resort surpassed all ourexpectations. Highly detailed oriented management an a design with a perfectly proffesional and friendly staff. Food was the best i've had in a long time.
“A step above the rest...”
Great resort, very very attentive staff. Very good food, no your typical bland food. Most of the restaurants have specials you won't find elsewhere. The reputation of the spa is well deserved. Look forward to returning soon.
“Best resort EVER! Can't wait to go back!”
This place was amazing! Flowers/plants, hotel grounds, decor, attention to detail, everything was beautiful! Pool was huge! Rooms were clean. Had a ceiling fan above bed, which was very nice. Stocked fridge with wine, beer, candy, snacks and a great bottle of tequila. We went mid August when it wasn't as busy (low season) and the service was impeccable! Waited on hand and foot and treated like royalty. Staff was super friendly. The restaurant Freida was excellent. Shopping in Playa del Carmen was a 15 minute cab ride away with tons of shops and places to eat. Felt very safe. I did not do any spa treatments, but it looked awesome and I heard that it is one of the best. (Will have to save that for next time) I would definitely go back and even take my toddler with us next time. Very kid friendly. Great place to relax and get away from the daily grind. There is no nightlife, clubs or partying here. You get what you pay for and even though this is a little more than some of the other resorts it is totally worth it. We have been to Cancun and Playa several times and to a different resort each time and this was the best by a landslide! Can't say enough wonderful things about this place or staff. You will not be disappointed!
“Very Impressed, would go back in a minute, wish I could”
We have been to several of the resorts in Mexico, Mayan Riviera, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Accapulco , Cancun and we were most impressed with this one, wow what beauty and elegance and homeliness and comfort. Would go back in a minute and will highly reccommend this to any traveller we know asking where to go.
“Best Resort in the Riviera Maya!”
My new husband and I traveled to the Grand Velas for our honeymoon from October 4, 2010 through October 10, 2010. We had the most amazing experience! We booked the Grand Class section, seeing as it was a special occasion for us. The room was very spacious, and we loved the bathroom, complete with a HUGE shower and jacuzzi for 2. There's also a walk-in closet, full of amenities like bathrobes, sandals, bug spray and a woven beach bag that we used every day. The resort itself is immaculate. The pools are pristine, and HUGE! We found the master pool on our second day and absolutely loved it. It's a whole other experience swimming around a pool in the lush jungle, rather than on the beach. The pool service was amazing - we never had to lay out our own towel, and they brought ice water and plenty of cocktails all day long. The service was probably our favorite part of staying at the Grand Velas. We were always greeted by name, everyone always says "buenos dias" or "buenas noches" to you, and the dining service was 5 star all the way. The next best part of Grand Velas has to be the food. This was our first all-inclusive experience, and we were SHOCKED at how gourmet the choices were. The drinks were fabulous as well - everything is top shelf. We drank Don Julio margaritas, Grey Goose martinis etc everyday.
“Better than expected!!”
a great place. i had great expectations based on other reviews but this resort exceeded our expectations. the room size, amenities, service and food were all outstanding and i have stayed at many high end hotels. the pool is by far the most beautiful pools i have ever seen. when we visited, it was their low season and apparently there were only 20% full. there were many waitstaff around so service was impeccable. we stayed at the "master" section which is a 2min shuttle ride from the beachfront properties. this was a peaceful, serene place to stay and i would recommend it over the beachfront only since it was so serene. we never waited more than 2 min for a shuttle to take to the beach. i HIGHLY recommend this resort for a peaceful place to relax and get away. it has no night life so keep this in mind if you are looking for that kind of vacation.
“Would go back in a minute if they fixed the beach chair problem”
Absolutely loved the Grand Velas. Was very impressed that they had welcome letter in room that said not to reserve beach chairs - that attendants would seat you upon arrival - attendants accepted tips and reserved them all the time for people - so staying in the jungle area and arriving later at the beach - like 9:30 am - meant too late because all chairs reserved. Strongly suggest people actually reserve beach chairs or pool chairs night before with some sort of system to avoid this problem - it was the ONLY thing I have to criticize about hotel - otherwise perfect.
“LOVED Grand Velas.”
The staff at the hotel were wonderful and could not do enough for us. The hotel is stunning, spotless and just wonderful. The beach and pool chairs were so comfortable with great cushions and the hotel staff put rolled towels on them as neck pillows when you sat down. And then brough a coller of bottled water and offered any other drinks we could want. The pools are huge and just beautiful. The adults only pool was quiet and oh so warm. And of course, there were pool bars at both pools. The restaurants were fantastic. We especially loved Lucca and Piaf. I would not recommend Cocina de Autor. Too fancy for us. We tried the tasting menu and just did not love it. But the service there was excellent (as it was at every restaurant) so if that's your type of food experience, you would enjoy it. We really had a fantstic experience at the Grand Velas and are planning to go back soon!
“Best All Inclusive in Playa Del Carmen”
Excellent hotel. Would recommend to anyone traveling to Playa Del Carmen. Service was exceptional! Food was incredible! Room service was like eating in the restaurants. Always hot and fresh. Anything you needed it was handled immediately.
