“Exceeded our expectations!”

When we were in Playa del Carmen in 2006, this hotel caught our eye from the beach. The six of us agreed if this one was ever in our price range we would return. Until this we had a firm don't return to the same place rule, so this is impressive. We decided on the basic room as we would be using the common areas most of non beach time. Our room was perfect for our needs and the abundance of common areas fit our needs. The food was some of the best we've ever had and the brand new beach was amazing.

“Beautiful resort in Playa del Carmen”

The Gran Porto Real is an exquisite resort-our 8th experience with all-inclusives and by far the most lovely in appearance. We liked not having to get up early and wait in line to make reservations at the specialty restaurants, as none are required. The food is very good in the specialty restaurants and okay in the buffet, and service was always pleasant. The beach area is small and the water is rocky and not all that accessible. But there is plenty of lounge area available. The main pool is quite deep (almost 5') and is our only complaint. There are shallow pads in several areas of the pool where all the kids hang out because of the overall depth of the pool, so it makes it difficult for adults to sit in the water and read or just relax without being harassed constantly. There is a "quiet" pool but you would be lucky to experience any "quiet", as loud groups of young couples and drinkers tend to inhabit this area. Also, it tends to be quite far away from everything else and so is inconvenient. And the sun leaves most of this area earlier in the day. It is too bad that the main pool does not have one large shallow area for children. Also, the chairs everywhere around this pool are crammed in so tightly that you are shoulder to shoulder with your neighbor and if you are a non-smoker, be prepared to be an inch away from your smoking neighbor. The hotel is spotless and the floors gleam everywhere. The buffet is open all day so don't worry about starving! Great location downtown!

“"Very Enjoyable"”

We thought the hotel is in a good location. It is not a huge hotel which makes it nice for eating and just getting back and forth from the room to beach and the pool. The food was good at all of the restaurants and we did not need reservations. It is kid friendly, however you should know that the pool is 4' 8" deep everywhere so it helps if your kids are good swimmers or are tall enough to stand in that deep of water! The beach is nice...but you should know that they have sand bags at the waters edge. The hotel around the corner has a nicer beach area, I would recommend going over their to get in the ocean. Also we used "Cancun shuttle" for getting from the airport to the hotel, It was great and the cost was 110.00 for round trip on a private van that would probably fit 8 people. Overall it was a Great Vacation!!!

“3rd time and still love it....we will be back”

this was my 3rd time in 5 years vacationing at the gran porto real and i absolutely love it there. the service and staff are helpful and very friendly. we always have some difficulty apon checking in, but after that, its like paridise. the rooms are beautiful and the entire hotel has a mexican flavor.....layed back and relaxed, yet the service is excellant. we stayed at the "diamond" sister hotel across the street for a couple nights, and however it was very nice, it lacked the mexican flair that the porto real has,. the restaurants are outstanding , the service, the best of anywhere ive been. unusual for an all inclusive. the location, walking distance to the 5th ave, shopping district is perfect. we went into town nearly every night. the beach directly in front of the hotel isnt as nice as it is just down a little ways either direction, where it is perfect. the pool is beautiful and the activity directors are so fun. there is so much available to do, or at times we just hung by the pool or beach..there was always ample chairs at the pool so you didnt find your self with out a chair, or having to get up at dawn to hold one.. however i do suggest getting up early, as the mornings on the beach are so beautiful. i recommended this to friends who brought their families and also loved it. also, even though it is not for adults only, there wasnt alot of kids running around screaming, making it enjoyable for everyone. i would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.....

“Family oriented resort”

Just got back from a very relaxing week on the beach. This resort is very family oriented. Lots of activities for the young children. There was entertainment every night. Food was great. Very clean resort with great housekeeping. Location is great for beach, fishing, shopping, dining out, everything is within walking distance. Would recomment to the travlers with children. Would not recommend to the people who want to Party in Mexico!

“Our 2nd stay at the Gran Porto”

Our first trip to Playa del Carmen was interrupted by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. We only stayed at the Gran Porto for 2 nights before we were evacuated. We returned to finish the vacation that was cut short by Wilma. The hotel is a very good place to stay. We had a great time. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The food was good, as were the drinks. So good, in fact, that we are going to return next year. This hotel is beautiful and perfect for us. Also, the beach is bigger now than before hurricane Wilma. Had a great time.

“Will definitely return!”

We stayed at the Gran Porto Real for a friend's wedding. The wedding was the nicest we've been to, from the ceremony to the reception. The food was the typical all-inclusive type...not bad but gets old after a while. We stayed at a resort in Nuevo Vallarta 2 years ago, and there was no comparison between that one and this one. Playa by far is the better place to stay. All of the staff was super friendly. Our only complaint was that we didn't get animals made out of towels like some of our friends did from the housekeeping staff! The sister resort next door is a step above this one...nicer amenities, more restaurants to choose from, etc. We still have absolutely no complaints with the Gran Porto. We'll definitely return!
