Dance lessons, introductory scuba diving lessons, aerobics, and all manner of games and athletic contests are organized each day, while live music and dance provide entertainment each night. One popular activity is a three-km (two-mile) bicycle tour (surcharge) of the mangrove jungle adjacent to the resort. “Great Hotel - not so great food”
The whole trip went smooth, the resort was great. The food was not great. I despised the food. I stayed for a week, a friend that stayed for 2 weeks said the food got better the second week.
“Great Hotel”
Wonderful place to take a honeymoon. Very friendly service. Clean rooms and great entertainment.
“Our favorite hotel in Mexico so far!”
The Akumal was wonderful! The grounds were beautiful, the room was spotless, and the food was very good! We enjoyed the flexibility to go to the other two hotels on the property! We are planning a trip back with our three kids and some other families next spring!! Can't wait to return!
“The best trip we have ever been on!”
My husband and I have 2 small children and were looking for a relaxing and affordable trip for the two of us and this hotel was an amazing find. The hotel was beautiful and so well maintained. Everything was clean and the staff was so friendly and helpful. The resort was really big, but there are great trams that take you everywhere. We ate at the buffet at Tulum every day for breakfast. For lunch there were two options the buffet or the snack bar, which was okay, they have great guacamole and chips, but would not recommend much else. For dinner you have a choice of the buffet (which has nightly themes) or you can choose 3 of the 8 ala carte restaurants. We went to Le Gourmet and it was awesome!!!! You feel like you are at really fancy restaurant. We had about 5 waiters helping us, a silver wine bucket and candle light, who could ask for more. We had the scallop appetizer, seafood bisque, goat cheese filled rolls, filet mignon and chocolate lava cake for dessert. We also went to Mikado and had a great hibachi dinner. We did not like Frutas Del Mar. The service was slow and the food was not what we expected. We had really high expectations after the first two. We loved the area and hotel and would recommend it to anyone!
“Unbelievable!”
I have never had anyone take better care of me!
“Good food”
Was surprised by the food at hotel restaurant - very good.
“second visit was as good as the first”
We love our visits to the Mayan Riviera and have enjoyed our 2 stays at Gran Bahia Principe. This was our second 2-week stay. GBP Tulum all inclusive Hacienda Club was not our first choice, we prefer GBP Akumal for it's more intimate feel. The upgrade to Hacienda Club was a good value, but we felt the club buffet came up short. We were better off eating at the general Tulum (or the other 2 hotels) buffet for breakfest and lunch. GBPT Junior Suites HC did not include ocean views, which was disappointing. Many upgrades were incuded in the HC package, including exclusive club pool & beach. Food is good, with variety. Maid service was good, but had to call for mini bar restocking. The staff was friendly and helpful. The beach was lovely, good snorkelling, hot sun, good breezes and the carib water was perfect (wear river shoes in the water to help negotiate some rocky areas). GBP is a good location for rental car excursions up and down the riviera, finding our daily trips out and about enhansed when we had good food and services to return too. All 3 hotels services were accessable (Tulum, Akumal & Coba) and we took advantage of this option, finding each hotel had something uniquely their own. Sitting in or around the lobby at night, enjoying the carib breezes and people watching at GBP. There are shows, live music at the bars and nightly disco (12am to 3am, too late for us to enjoy). Overall a good place to stay to enjoy the riviera maya along with a good resort experience.
“Amazing”
We stayed at this resort for two weeks and would definately go back. The staff were extremely friendly and provided amazing service. We were absolutely amazed at the training they must go through to provide that quality of service. The food was very good and the presentation was beautiful. The only thing that we think they could improve on is their shuttle vehicles as they are old and in dire need of repair. The location of the resort is excellent and close to many of the tourist activities. Alll in all, it was a beautiful vacation.
“Great Vacation”
We went to this resort for our honeymoon and had a great time. The resort itself was amazing, but almost too large for our taste. Overall it was an excellent vacation, the food was good, and the beach was amazing. If you don't want to walk as much as we did, ask for a room close to the lodge. Our only saving grace was the 24 snack shop just across the pool from our villa, where you could get food and drinks all day and night.
“Would definitely return!”
All of the staff spoke english well. They were very helpful and had fun with the guests. The food was amazing. You know its good when you are disappointed about not having the buffet tomorrow night. Although the A la Carte meals were above and beyond. The shows and entertainment staff were hilarious. My only minor disapointment was that the discotheque didn't open until midnight- so I found the 2 hours between entertainment and disco to be too long to stay awake. would have been nice to keep the party going. The beach was beautiful, however is rocky in spots so I recommend water shoes. The snorkeling just off the beach was really good as well.
