I strongly advise against staying at this hotel. Compared to our stellar experience at Andaz Mayakoba, with its outstanding service and modern facilities, the Fairmont was a letdown. The check-in was cumbersome, and despite advertising as child-friendly, no activities for children were mentioned. The rooms showed wear and tear, and unlike Andaz, offered no complimentary minibar snacks. The resort's vastness could be a plus if not for the long distances and scarce golf carts, making transportation a hassle and often resulting in long waits. We walked most of the time except when going to the beach, which is not close. One evening, we requested a cart to our room because we had shopping bags (and kids) and got push back. La Laguba is disappointing, with subpar guacamole and dry tacos. Wait staff at the beach were understaffed and indifferent. It took several attempts to get someone to help. Fries were cold and soggy. I was told they didn’t do fresh fruit smoothies. The concierge was very unhelpful, when we asked for her to help us get a taxi from town to the hotel, she told us to 'just hail one’. Adding to our frustrations, my husband’s wallet was lost or stolen during a hotel-arranged airport transfer, costing us 2700 MXN. The hotel's lack of assistance was emblematic of our disheartening experience, far below Mayakoba's reputed standard.
