There were some electrical issues in the room. My husband got a slight shock when plugging in his cell phone charger. The beach was ok, slight seaweed but thats uncontrollable, workers were efficient wirh keeping cleaned up. Dining was meh, breakfast was always good. Italian casitas is definitely better that the villas. Staff were all friendly and welcoming. Beautiful resort only downfall for me was the food. Good quality liquor and lots of choices!

Overall experience was great and facilities were very nice. Staff was very friendly. Communication could be better. You learn how to optimize your experience and about facilities availability from other guests only. You have to schedule everything through your concierge and their hours and availability are inefficient. The resort overall holds banker hours with only one bar being open after about 9pm. Resort property was overall beautiful and safe. The spa was very nice. Would recommend the resort, just with some helpful tips to maximize your experience.

This is a beautiful property. It is very well maintained and all of the staff are very friendly. The food is excellent, however the only buffet option is for breakfast. The walk up restaurants sometimes have waiting lines. All dinner restaurants require reservations and have dress codes. To get reservations you must go through your concierge whose main job is to try and sell you memberships, advantage plans, travel clubs etc. Bring good walking shoes. This property is sprawling. There are golf cart taxis for those who need them. The beach is horrible. It is very rocky and the water is filled with huge concrete blocks from a previous attempt to create an artificial reef. This spoils the view. There are various pool options, however people get up early to "reserve" their space without actually being at the pool. They need a pool host/hostess to seat people who are actually going to the pool and not take up all of the seating. Two times we went to a pool and there were no towels available. This was at the smaller pools as there was no availability at the main pool. Overall a very nice resort if you don't care about the beach. Lots of activities etc. Great food and plenty to drink. Top shelf booze and plenty of it. Wine is extra at dinner.

One of our favorite places to go visit. The number and variety of restaurants is always our favorite. Having not been there in 5 years we were a bit sad with how much more of a party and wedding vibe they have now. Constant loud music and construction for weddings almost daily and really inconsistent with drinks and food items this time around.

Overall, this is a nice resort. The grounds were beautiful and facilities very clean. They had a lot of pools to chose from some with swim up bars an some without. The main drawback is the lack of beach. Apparently it got taken out in a recent hurricane so it is very rocky and impossible to walk. Also, there are multiple manmade structures further out in the ocean. We heard they were put out there to create a barrier for the beach, but were moved in by the hurricane. They are very unattractive. The photo on Expedia does not show the structures. Either they were photoshopped out or the picture was taken before the hurricane. Either way, false advertising. They food was just okay, some good and some just okay. One dinner, I had Mahi Mahi but it was cold and way undercooked. I didn't feel well the next day. The other part I didn't like is they were always trying to upsell you on different dining options and activities. We worked with the concierge to set up golf one day and he told us rental clubs would be $50-$60. They were $88 when we got to the course. We also had one member of our group that just wanted to ride along. We were told it would be $35 but when we got to the course it was $50. After informing them what had happened, they refused to refund the difference. You would be better off to book your excursions on your own. Although tips are included, tips are pretty much expected at this resort. I've been to other all inclusives and this was not thecase

The staff is not knowledgeable and unfriendly. Food restriction and not good selection for vegeterian. Being in Mexico- No vegeterial oil cooked beans avaialble in evening dinner in many area. - No jalpenos available in many eating places. No Coconut water available - we had to literally ask may times to get it. No walking dining area - requires reservation in advance, when we are there for relaxation - every one wants to eat with ease. Overall experience is very bad. My room had few problems that were never fixed.

Food is fabulous. Staff is exceptional. Site is kept very clean daily. Watch out for the cart drivers, they are fast! Be sure to make reservations for dinner. Recommendations: Restock water more frequently, add curtain over the bathroom window, light shown through so room never got dark AND fix the shower so it didn't sound like it was running all the time.

Went on a trip with 3 other couples. We all booked beach front rooms. All except one did not get a beach front room. The resort was working with them to settle it, but it took too much of our time. Food was great when there were food options open. Make sure you get dinner reservations in ASAP. You can “walk-in” at certain restaurants, but the wait is horrendous. Oh, and make sure you have the right nights reserved on their open days. Concierge booked us at a restaurant that wasn’t even opened. So, after walking around trying to find something open, we had to get room service. Room service menu wasn’t impressive, but it did the job. One thing I would suggest for the resort to do is, at least a buffet for lunch and dinner. It helps with people arriving late and the people that do not have dinner reservations/or when concierge messes up. They have an “quick” pizzeria dining spot that is open, but note: IT TAKES FOREVER! The two times we went, it took nearly 2 hours. Really good pizza, but the wait made it impossible to enjoy. All in all, it was a great stay minus the hiccups.

We were there in 22 and food quality and accessibility went down. They ask at check in what kind of pillow and scent we want in the room it took 3 days and multiple times asking to recieve. Beach is not pretty with the concrete things in water. We got suckered into a tour and telling several times NO! I finally had to just walk out.

When researching where to stay, I read several reviews for both El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Seaside (where I stayed last year, also in January). Royale is bigger and has received designations that ultimately made me book there. While it was still a great trip, Seaside was better. I was surprised that, while Royale is bigger, Seaside had more restaurants. Throughout a week-long stay, we had to eat at two restaurants twice and, two of the restaurants are Italian so we had Italian three nights in a row (which was fine bc we love Italian and the food was great, it's just nice to mix it up). The beach at Seaside is definitely nicer- fewer blockades in the water and more beach area to actually swim. We got a great deal through Expedia so I'm not trying to complain, just want anyone who is between Seaside and Royale to have this info!

Bad customer service! Concierge Jacob talked me into taking their “not timeshare” marketing session and promised a $100 off a spa treatment on top of another certificate I already had. Then at checkout turns out I couldn’t apply them. Wasted an hour right before checkout, rushing to make my airport transfer because no one could figure out what to do. The staff is disorganized. Even though it’s an “all-inclusive” you can’t use a lot of the areas unless you are a member (the timeshare thing). Day beds were not marked as by reservation only, so we lay there, got all comfortable, only then they come up to you and either make you buy it or move. Food was very mediocre. Disappointing experience and not worth it. Not to mention that the membership starts at $33k. Insane!

Great food, lots of choices. Pizza restaurant closed by pool, bummed. Not members but enjoyed it. ALMA at wine kitchen was awesome. Palms was great for breakfast and lunch. The staff at palms went above and beyond. The guy with the specialized drink was fabulous.

The entire staff was extremely courteous and responsive. The place is huge and you have access to their sister resorts as well. There is a shuttle so it was easy to get around if you don't want to walk. The main pool, wasn't as loud and obnoxious as resort pools can be, the music was tasteful though they they run a volleyball game at one end daily so depending on the guests... There are always drink promotions as the pool as well and drink service around the pool as well as the beach is good. That being said there are tons of smaller pools if you want a more peaceful atmosphere. I for one am a beach person, and my only complaint is that there is no place to swim in the ocean because t they have put cement pilings through the shoreline to temper the waves and prevent them from ruining the beach, I presume. I imagine you could swim past there if you wanted to but I have no I idea what it would be like and there are no lifeguards. The one good thing is that there is a saltwater pool that was carved out at one end of the resort which happened to be outside of our swim-out room so that was perfect for swimming and the next best thing to swimming directly in the open ocean. It was never crowded. I would say that food is probably better than almost any all-inclusive I've been to and plenty of restaurants to choose from amongst all resorts, except for the house wine at most restaurants is not great. Lastly, don't book a late dinner- they will stop serving you at 10PM.

Wow… I have stayed at many Cancun resorts and this is the best by far! Transportation is great, excursions are fabulous, you have access to 3-4 other resorts, food was actually fantastic (usually it’s not very good at other resorts). Staff is super friendly and they make you feel welcome. The rooms were very nice and affordable. My only complaints: The concierge will try to get you to go to a presentation and bribe you with $100 gift card, spa treatments, discount on day passes for other resorts, etc. just get what they say in writing first. Also, they told us it was only an hour and our presentation almost lasted 4 hours. It was similar to buying a used car with a lot of pressure to spend tens of thousands to become a member. The property does not have much in the way of sandy beaches. If you want that, then you can walk 10-15 minutes up to the other resorts onsite (Casitas and Generations) which are included for your use. I really do not have much to complain about, as I felt like I was in paradise most days. Great buy for the money, amazing experience, I’ll be back soon! Lastly, it is remote but you are literally half way between Playa De Carmen and Cancun for day trips. Quite, romantic, classy, and has something for everyone.

This is an absolute beautiful property. Our room was nice and clean and an excellent view. We had an extremely hard time trying to book reservations for restaurants. The worst ever. Beyond that and not getting to eat until 9 or 9:30 it was very nice.

I booked this trip for my family of 4 for New Year celebration. Prices for staying there were already not cheap, same like for Christmas, but thinking about future New Year celebration, I thought it is appropriate price and getting some VIP benefit from Expedia were promising a good vacation. But, it wasn't. First, the VIP benefit $100 credit for room we can use ONLY for 80min massage for one person which is overpriced, costs more than $200. So, if you have this credit, you still have to pay more than $350 for 2 people. Massages were too light, just petting, nothing helpful. Spa services are really limited, no saunas, no showes, just pools. It is just one buffet in the morning. Not s big selection. For lunch or dinner, no any buffet, just restaurants. Wating time sometimes is ridiculous, most of the times just long. If you want to spend your vacation waiting for food, it's a vacation for you. The craiziest happened on New Year eve. If you would like to have some New Year celebration, you have to pay an additional ridiculous price in this ALL INCLUSIVE resort. They offered us a table for 4 for 550-to 2000 US dollars. Of cause, we didn't pay, so have to go to regular restaurant which didn't have any New Year decorations. Around the pool, all cabanas for additional money. This all inclusive resort isn's really all inclusive. They try to get more money from you for that which is supposed to be included in the price of staying there. Definitely not coming back.

This is not a five star property, there is only a buffet for breakfast otherwise it is very limited where and when you can eat. The food choices are very short and overall some of the worst food I have ever eaten on an all inclusive. Your personal concierge service is only there to try and upsell you on future vacations or becoming a member and if you are not a registered member at this resort where you can eat, and what you can partake in is limited. Like a lot of places the rooms and pictures advertised on your booking are not even close to what you actually stay in. The beach is littered with water barriers that blew in from a hurricane several years ago, so not even the view is enjoyable, the open space you can swim in in the ocean is less than 80 m wide. Otherwise it is littered with hurricane debris and even the beach is not sandy enough to walk on most places.

Hotel staff were extremely nice and we were always greeted with a hello. Although for an all inclusive resort it was difficult to get food at times especially during dinner hours. Dinner always need’s reservations and the ONLY way you can reserve your dinner reservations for the week is by meeting with your “concierge”. Your concierge try and tell you they will give you a certain amount of money towards your massages or an excursion but only if you come back and listen to their “presentation” … which they tell you only takes 1 hour. Luckily we didn’t listen to them and denied the offer. Friends we met during our stay went to the so called “presentation” and they get conned into a 4 hour tour around different owned El Dorado resorts and were tried being sold a time share. It’s bad enough this happens as soon as you try and leave Cancun airport you - don’t expect this to happen at your resort too. Which is why I’m leaving it with 3 stars. Dinner food portions are also very small , I recommend ordering double of what you choose off any menu. Upon checkout it was very annoying, they also try and sell you a membership with an activation fee of $300 to come back to use at their resorts. Most likely would not return.
