“Would recommend this hotel.”
Very close to the main pedestrian street and the ADO bus station. Nice garden and clean rooms. Very nice and helpful staff. A minus is the "continental breakfast" that come with OJ, a piece of bread OR cereals, tea OR coffee, but you're not allowed to bring your own fruits (or any other -tropical- delicacies that you might want to have for breakfast). Safe cost $3 per night. Free internet and free international land line phone calls.
“Small hotel with big personality.”
Once again we had a very enjoyable time while staying at this hotel. From the owner/managers to the front desk, to the daily staff - they are warm, informative, genuine and professional in every way. It is truly a comfortable surrounding while visiting at the Barrio Latino and they continually make small but quality improvements. The general area of Playa del Carmen is refreshing and our relaxing experiences at this wonderful little hotel just re-enforce our decision to make it our home away from home.
“Nice”
Great location. Very nice hotel. Only negative: lousy brakfast!!!
“good location and basic hotel”
I love the Hammock in front of the room.... the hotel is basic ...fare price..no blanket on the bed...though...but good location.
“Quiet casual place. Great location.”
Free breakfast wasnt that great so i only took advantage of it twice out of my 7 days there. Hotel has a family warmth to it since the owner lives there too. The sounds vibrate when people talk loud so u can actually get disturbed by group talking loud. Morning the noise from the cups, dishes & spoons from the eating area woke me up. Rooms are basic. The maid & staff was nice and polite. I feel safe there. I love the hammocks infront of the room.
“Nice little hotel, but not for everyone.”
The staff was friendly and professional, the bed was comfortable enough, and the location, only 3 blocks from the bus station, and one block away from Fifth Avenue, was great. However, travelers should be aware that it is not a quiet area, so if noise bothers you, you may not be happy here. With the air-conditioner on you may not hear much noise, but the air-conditioner itself is not quiet and they do not allow guests to adjust the temperature. The staff has to come in and set it with some remote control device they have. We were too cold the first night. We decided to try it without the air-conditioning the second night and that's when we heard the noise all night. If you like a big breakfast this is also not the place for you. They are very tight with the breakfast. ONE glass of juice, ONE cup of tea (or TWO cups of coffee), and ONE pastry. And because they apparently have some kind of septic tank system, there are prominent signs in the bathrooms saying NOT to flush ANY toilet paper, but to put it in the wastebasket next to the toilet. I was totally unprepared for that. I suspect it would be a deal-breaker for most Americans.
“Always in Playa”
I have been to Playa at least 10 times this year. I like to stay at a variety of places. I booked this stay with 1 day notice so my options were limited. That having been said.....there are positives and negatives to this hotel..... PROS: Location is great. Room was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. This is a very typical Mexican small hotel. CONS: Upon arrival I was asked to sign a contract agreeing to NO ALCOHOL in my room!!! HAHAHA and NO MUSIC. I am not a teenager and do not blast music but I do play music on my computer while I get dressed. They also REQUIRE you to leave some form of ID at the desk. Not a problem, but no other hotel has EVER asked this of me. THERE IS NO TV in the room. Again....I am not a big TV watcher, but I like background noise on when getting dressed in the morning for local weather and such. The air conditioner does not have a thermostat.....it is either ON or OFF, and because there are shutter style windows the room was never really really cold. 2 nights it was very very loud due to club music next door until 4am. For the price the room was fine, but there are other hotels in the area for a similar price that are a bit nicer.
“Barrio Latino-mixed feelings”
The room was small, but clean and comfortable. Check in was fast, friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was in a wonderful courtyard under a palapa, but was fairly basic-I am not a fan of bread or cereal and that was all they had: no fruit or eggs. The coffee was very good, and there was pineapple juice as well. Our toilet did not flush well at all(no, we did NOT put paper in the toilet-we used the wastepaper basket as they do in Mexico), and often multiple flushes were required. The hammocks outside the rooms were a nice touch, and there is also a quiet sunny sitting area out back. My main complaint regarding this hotel is the price. We found several hotels within a block or two that were either cheaper or had better features(bigger rooms, pool, etc.) for the same price. The staff was helpful and friendly.
“Not imprest at allllllllllllll”
bad expiriance with arogant emploees.......never ever in this particular hotel. We are every month in Playa Del Carmen. And we never expirienced such low quality service.
“Beware Hotel Barrio Latino is extremely noisy!”
Beware, this hotel is extremely noisy with nightclubs right next door. Don't think you will get a comfortable night sleep! Tiny room and hard bed, location is ok, but sleep is the main point of staying here right? Breakfast hours are short too - 8am to 10am so not the most useful. Very disappointed with the lack of sleep and small size of the room.
