“Beautiful spot”
We went there mid December with our two children (7 and 9) and had a wonderful time. The beach was a dream, very safe for children (shallow and calm because of reef) and perfect for off beach snorkelling. We saw turtles, stingrays and lots more. The hotel is a little dated but well looked after, the staff extremely friendly, the beds not as hard as everyone makes out and the food a little boring but still very good. Our children would have enjoyed a little bit more action and more children to play with but we (the parents) enjoyed the quietness of the resort including the fact that we never had to hunt for a beach chair. There was a very friendly team of animators though who offered activities for the children (children's club 9 am - 12 pm and 3 - 5 pm) as well as the adults from yoga to salsa lessons in a very non-pushy kind of way. If you like action from morning till evening and a good nightlife, then the Akumal Beach Resort is not the place to go. But if a beautiful, uncrowded and child friendly beach and fantastic off beach snorkelling is more important to you than party time, the Akumal is perfect.
“Always a good time at the Akumal Beach Resort!”
One of the best snorkeling beaches on the Mayan Riviera! The ABR is not a gleaming 5 star resort, but it is a friendly, comfortable low key property with wonderful staff and a family atmosphere. I would go back there tomorrow if I had the opportunity. The only negative to the ABR is the buffet is a bit sub-par, but there's always something to munch and I never went hungry.
“Best time ever”
We loved the area and the hotel; very laid back and very centrally located for alot of activites. The staff was wonderful, especially Myrnna and Shianne, the entertainment staff. They had a lot of good ideas for the guests to participate in. Juan in the gift shop was very helpful and the staff overall was very helpful. Cheers for Timmy the bartender; very quick and friendly, like the bartenders in the movie "Cocktail"!!!!!! The food in the buffet was good and the food in the "reservation dining room" was exceptional. The 4 cheese pasta was excellent! The snokeling right outside your door was great. Saw sea turtles and also witnessed a release of 200 baby sea turtles. Some people ruined it for the rest of by using flashes after being asked numerous times not to at the night release. (They get confused and think that the flashes are the moon and go in the wrong direction.) Overall, would go back in a heart beat!! Good job to their staff! PS--always get the number and company of your taxi in case you lose your phone or leave something in the taxi. Also, check to make sure the nozzle on your sunscreen works before you leave the store you bought it in cuz it's NOT inexpensive to buy it down there. How do know these things, you ask? DUH!
“Plan to go back for our next vacation.”
Nothing fancy, but very relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful beach and great service.
“Excellent Hotel”
Wow, what a great resort. We only had one night there, but we really wished we had longer. It was listed as a 3 star, but was as good as any four star hotel. The facilities are excellent, resort atmosphere was terrific, staff were helpful and friendly and the beach was superb. We will definitely stay there again.
“Can't wait to go back”
We enjoyed our stay very much. The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly and always had a smile on their face and ready to serve you. Bring a face cloth as they don't supply them. The Italian restuarant was the best. Also when you turn in your towels be sure to get the cards back to turn in at check out or they will charge you 30.00 dollars each. The towel guy didn't give ours back and we almost had to pay but he did mark the books that we turned them in but it was undo stress at check out.
“Impressed with AKumal Beach Resort”
The beach was fantastic- very calm - lots of sand for the kids- great coral and fish while snorkeling Food was good - if you like buffets - there are two sit down restaraunts for dinner - mexican and italian (nothing special) There are a lot more Italians and Europeans than Americans - but I did not see any discrimination. The night shows, brochures, exercise events are all done bi or trilingnually Would Go Back
“ABR=Awesome Value”
This resort was a very nice three star resort. The staff was wonderful, rooms very clean. We had a superior room in building 6. The room was not huge, but had plenty of storage and a nice balcony. Safes were provided. The food here at the buffet was bland, but we always had something to eat. The Mexican al a cart was great. The bartenders are friendly, the drinks kind of cheap. Corona on tap. Always plenty of fruit juices to drink. Great for the money we spent. Just plan on eating in town a few times, as they have wonderful food and good prices. And for the price we paid for the resort we could certainly afford to eat out if we chose! However, great guacamole and chips are abundant at the resort and good fruit too! We were alone, but this is a wonderful family resort. Bring the kids. Great snorkeling and awesome beach. Gentle ocean on the north side of the property, rocky on the south.
“Fabulous Stay”
The hotel was excellant and staff were wonderful. It was in a great location. The snorkling was great. The food was better than expected , buffet style. We really enjoyed our stay.
“Can't wait to go back,”
We celebrated our 25th anniversary and we were a little worried about this trip but going on all the tips that we read on the ABR we were very pleased. we do agree with tipping the people at the ABR resort they work very hard to make sure that you are happy they do not ask or expect any tips We were very pleased with all of the hard working people there for the little money they make they should be earning lots more and there entertainment staff is just awesome!! We went during the usa thanksgiving week and we were very happy that they buffet restaurant did have a thanksgiving meal. Our room was always nice and clean and everyday we came back to our room our housekeeper had some kind of decoration she had made our of towels and we thought that was just so pleasant to come home to.The buffet was just great we were always pleased with our meals and the service. snorkel off your own beach from the ABR it was awsome i had never snorkeled so much in my life we seen beautiful fish and a turtle and a sting ray awesome!! take a big 34oz mug Yes we do recommend this resort to anyone and yes we will go back we were extremly satisfied very pleased!!!
