“Loved it!”
My husband and I took our first trip to Rio de Janeiro in November, 2009, and spend a week at the Sol Ipanema. We have traveled quite a bit in Europe and North America, but this was our first trip to South America. We could not have been more pleased with the hotel and would definitely stay there again. We do not speak Portuguese (other than a few basic words and phrases we learned right before we left), so I was a little nervous about being able to communicate; however, we had no significant problems. The front desk staff spoke wonderful English and the rest of the staff was very patient with us and made every effort to communicate when we had questions. The location is perfect - right across the street from the beach - and the hotel provided beach towels, umbrellas and chairs at no charge. The room was clean, the view from our room was beautiful, and the service was great. The ocean view room is unquestionably worth the extra cost. The hotel is close to lots of restaurants and shopping and we walked everywher and always felt safe. (Use basic precautions of course: don't get too intoxicated, don't display lots of cash, etc.) We hated to leave when the week was over. It was one of the most wonderful vacations I've ever taken and I would most definitely recommend this hotel.

Wonderful 4 star hotel, excellent location. The concierge was one of the best I have experienced. I will definitely stay here on my next trip to Rio.

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The location in front of Ipanema beach cannot be beat. Breakfast with a view of the beach is fabulous.

“Sol Ipanema”
Wonderful location and hotel. The AC started leaking the first night, all over the desk with our computer wires, but it was fixed right after we pointed it out. Great bar on the top floor but poor service and menu, they can do so much better with it. Other than that, everything was fine, front desk was very helpful with arranging trips and generally giving ideas where to go according to our preferences. Taxi we got to the airport was somebody's cousin, it was not a real taxi but we paid the arranged price and all was OK.
“Pleasant and Safe Experience at Sol Ipanema”
A generally comfortable and accomodating four star hotel located right on Ipanema beach and close to shoping and restaurants several blocks inland. There is a pleasant rooftop pool area and bar, although the pool is more the size of an oversized jacuzzi. There is a free breakfast on the mezzanine which was good but not outstanding. Internet connections are charged at 40 center per minute and the connection was intermittent. Hotel staff was very accomodating in getting us into our room early on wednesday and providing a reasonable price for allowing us to remain in our room beyond the 12 noon checkout on friday until 8:30 so we could enjoy the whole day before our late flight. There are pricier hotels with better pools and more elaborate lobbies and restaurants but this is a solid value for Rio. PS - There were absolutely no problems security wise for my wife and I to walk to restaurants and jobs during the day or during the evening. Other than the fact that all of the condos nearby are gated and have security guards, there were no signs of the sketchy characters near Ipanema or feelings of uneasiness. I went for several walks including a very nice five mile walk around the inland lagoon which is surrounded by parks, rowing clubs and apartment buildings.
“Nice hotel with great location”
Great location; nice breakfast spread at the free breakfast; and love that they provide free umbrellas, chairs and towels for going to beach. Hotel pool is small, but nice and with a fantastic view. Be careful when booking to include total number of people in the room, as they charge per person.
“Nice hotel opposte beach near restuarants”
Nice clean and reasonably spacious room which included fridge. The view we had was to the side of the buidling and into other buildings (rather than across to Ipanema beach!) meaning you will likely keep the shades closed. The breakfast was very nice with many choices, and the breakfast room is bright and has superb views of the beach across the street. the hotel is within walking distance of shopping, restuarants and even Copacabana beach within 20-25 minutes. Staff were helpful and friendly in calling tour companies/taxis etc. Although this feels like a safe area (and is probably one of the best in Rio) there were still incidents of concern so you need to be aware. Note that no-one wears jewelry, not even watches, which tells a story.

“Very Nice Hotel - Great location”
My wife and I had a very pleasant stay at the Best Western Ipanema. Great location, nice rooms, nice staff, clean, great breakfast selection (but very small area - we had to wait a few minutes for a table). The only problem we found is that we could hear the conversation coming from the room adjacent to ours. Overall it is a very nice hotel.
