“It was Truly Perfect!”
My hub & I had already stayed downtown 2 days & were ready for a less expensive room & visiting other sites in Iceland. When I called to see if we could extend our reservation, Arni answered the phone, & from that moment on he set our hearts at ease & helped us make the most of our visit. We took day tours with Iceland Excursions (who picked us up at the hotel & had the cheapest rates this summer) & rented a 4x4 to go to Landmannalaugur. For each, it was like we had concierge service from Arni. He is wonderful, even to less than gracious visitors. The location is good for fit, walking folks - close to a thermal beach, the Perlan, a bus stop (we never used, always enjoyed the 15-20 min. walk to Hallgrimskirkja & environs) & it's in the middle of a nice residential area. Cabs come quick, too. The room was simple but nice, with a television, a pleasant view, a sink, & plenty of space. Downstairs, a washing machine & a large well-stocked (appliances & dishes) kitchen was available, & the overall atmosphere of the place was friendly. Breakfast was typically European & included (greenhouse grown!) fresh vegetables & melons, cheeses, breads & crackers, marmalade & jam, boiled eggs, granola, yogurt, sliced meat, tuna, coffee, tea, juice, & milk. The breakfast room & staff were nice, & I looked forward to it every morning except when we'd stayed out til dawn at NASA. If I ever come back to see the Hallgrimskirkja sans scaffolding, I'll look this place up. Cheers!
“Great guest house near the Perlan”
Very clean rooms and bathroom facilities. Also has a kitchen with walk-in refrigerator, 2 cooktops, pots/pans/eating utensils. Wonderful lighted bike/walk trails connecting to the city and surrounding area. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and can help with arranging activites. I will go back!
“basic comfortable accomodation, would go back”
loved the holiday, booked all excursions before we went so was busy but fantastic, would deff go back, i would recommend Grays excursions they have it sussed they collect and deliver you back to your hotel. i would recommend you book your hotel transer and excursions on line before you go as it makes everything smooth running and takes the hassel away of doing it whe your there
“Welcoming”
The only negative points about the hotel was the loudness of the doors/locks and the flimsiness of the curtains, so I recommend ear plugs and a sleeping mask for a perfect night sleep. The staff were friendly and welcoming, it's just a five minute walk to the main shopping complex and bus stops to town. the breakfast was plentiful and varied but the cups are a bit small for my caffiene addiction.
“Good, inexpensive base for exploring Iceland”
The Capital Inn is a long walk out of central Reykjavik so not the best place to be based in if it's Reykjavik you want to see. If, however, you're in town to go on tours and see Iceland, it's a good option (and very, very cheap). Most tour companies will pick you up at the hotel in the morning and drop you off back in the evening so the non-central location doesn't make a difference. However, the only main venue that is nearby is the mall, but everything is closed by 7pm (!) so you have to either order in, or go to central Reykjavik for food. Bathrooms are shared and while I was there, the female bathroom on my floor was not in great condition - it was clean, but the hairdryer didn't work and the shower drain was backing up badly. The TV in the room had no international channels, either - just 2 or 3 local stations (though some of the programming is American tv shows with subtitles). However, the staff are very helpful and go out of their way to make your stay more comfortable - they even washed my clothes for free when I came back from a day-long horse riding trip with very smelly clothes. There's a nice little sea inlet just down the road, as well.
“A Good Value”
I think the Capital Inn is a good value. It's a bit far from downtown Reykjavik, but in the summer it's probably a nice walk. The rooms are clean and the breakfast is basic but plentiful. The doors do squeak quite a bit, so if you are a light sleeper bring earplugs.
“Captial Inn”
This is a great hotel for the money: staff was helpful, breakfast plentiful, room great, nice neighbourhood. The only gripe we have--and this is not technically about the hotel service itself--is its location. Too far from downtown, if you don't have a car. It's at least a 30 minute walk (and we're hardy walkers), the nearest bus is a good 10 minute walk (up hill) and the bus only comes every half hour (or once an hour at night).
“Good place for the money”
I was a little concerned booking this hotel since there was no review about it when I booked it. The hotel turned out o.k., better than I thought. It's a bit out of the way, so you'll need a car (or rent a bike) to go to downtown Reykjavik. Driving to downtown is easy, and parking is free after 6:00 pm (Monday - Friday). Our room was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful (all spoke good English), the breakfast buffet was good. Our room faced a main road, so it was a bit loud during the day and early part of the night. But we were so tired and the bed was very comfortable, so we slept through at night anyway. There is only one bathroom (toilet, shower) for men, one bathroom (toilet, shower) for women, plus a bathroom with only toilet for either men/women per floor. I can't remember for sure, but I think there is 8 rooms on our floor, not fully occupied during our stay, so we had no problem using the shared bathrooms. There was a sink in our room too, so we can brush teeth, wash hands inside.
“Great Service”
This hotel is quite a distance away from everything so is ideally suited to those with their own car. However, if you are doing day-trips/excursions, most companies will collect and drop you off anyway. The staff at the hotel are great and there is a really good guest kitchen so you have the option of self-catering. However, the biggest selling point is the breakfast - one of the best hotel buffet breakfasts I've ever come across! My only complaint is that they only start serving breakfast at 8am so you'll miss it if you've booked a day-trip as the hotel pick-up is 8am. So please Capital Inn, offer breakfast from 7.30am and then you would get top marks from us!
“Clean and friendly”
Simple hotel, but clean, friendly and good breakfast. Location wise, it's a walk into the centre of Reykjavik, but actually fine, and less expensive for it. First time walking it seemed a long way, but second time I knew the route and loved the walk in the cool Iceland wind... Reykjavik itself is quite 'walkable'... Perlan nearby with a great little museum/historical centre in the base, take in the BSI bus station on the way into town for some traditional sheeps-head, and then get to town for various good shops, some excellent restaurants and more...
