“Near perfect stay.”
From the moment you enter the hotel, warmth and colours welcome you. I had read in some reviews that it felt 'old-fashion' but if so, I call it a very stylish, elegant old-fashion in a positive sense. There is an aboundance of paintings, art works and sculptures everywhere creating a rich and refined atmosphere. The lounge, bar, library and breakfast-room are all full of colours and incrediby plush, comfortable as you wish your own home to be. My room was very large if a single room ! Yes the decors was a little 'retro' but again very comfy with big arm-chairs, desk, two large windows etc.. The staff if very helpful even in the smallest of request. The breakfast buffet was a good, classic one with the addition of cod liver oil if you felt healthy ! My only two tiny reservations were :1- The shower had to run for about 20 minutes to warm-up but then got boiling quickly, so no long lovely showers. (never bothered enough to find out if it was only in my room or everywhere the same) 2- The hotel was hardly full but I had someone staying above every nights and one night was very noisy. That's how I realised that the sound-proofing was next to inexistant and if all rooms are full, it must get quiet lively. But again it was not a real problem. So in all, yes I totally recommend this warm hotel, well-situated at 5 mn walk from the main shopping street and from the lake.
“Art gallery in a hotel”
Hotel Holt was a real find and we were certainly treated well - being upgraded to a suite on arrival. The hotel is filled with paintings and sculpture which made it feel individual and an experience of Iceland in itself. All staff were helpful and polite.

The staff was friendly and very professional. The breakfast buffet was very convenient to use before daily tours early in the morning.
“Great Hotel”
Great hotel very convinient location. We have been upgraded at the Junior Suite at no extra cost. Very friendly staff that speak really good english. Will definately go back:-)
“Great location for centre of town”
Hotel was clean and comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere and helpful reception. In a quiet street, but short walk to main area. Breakfast choice was excellent and plentiful. Rooms quite well equiped - take a travel kettle though as not provided.
“Unbelievably helpful staff!”
The Hotel Holt is situated in a side street only a 5/10 minute walk from where the main shops and restaurants are and it's excellent location is very convenient. The hotel room was clean and cosy with all the amenities you'd need for a short stay. The king size bed was very comfortable. The staff are among the most helpful I have ever come across and nothing was too much trouble. Would stay there again if I ever visit Iceland and would highly recommend this without a shadow of a doubt. I defy anyone to find something to moan about!!
“Great for walking Reykjavik!”
For our first trip to Iceland, we had no idea what to look for in a hotel. We had only 4 days, and wanted convenience to attractions, but not some big chicken coop chain. Hotel Holt was perfect for our stay. It is located near the old downtown (City Center), and is very walkable to many museums, restaurants, parks, and even the bus station. It is located in a residential area, and walking the little streets provided countless surprises and views into everyday city living in Reykjavik. The staff was friendly & knowledgeable. The buffet breakfast was the same each day, but it offered many choices from fresh fruit to pickled herring. September is rainy - try August, instead!
“Great location - can't go wrong with Hotel Holt”
My wife and I are in our late 20s and stayed at Hotel Holt during our entire time in Iceland. It is a clean, comfortable hotel with a decent breakfast buffet that was included in our room rate. The location was probably the best part - it is located on a quiet residential street, but is only a few blocks from the downtown shopping and bars. We walked to all of our Reykjavik destinations. I would definitely stay in this hotel again if I return to Iceland.
“Good choice”
Well kept hotel in the Embassy area. Convenient walking distance to the major sights of Reykjavik. Staff was exceptionally helpful and pleasant.
“Exceeded my Expectations”
This hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff went above and beyond the call of service to accomodate my requests, whether it was dinner, or trying to check into my room early. I even was able to use their freezer. My only complaints would be slow Internet, but that is the way with most hotels with free wireless. Also, the single bed small for my 6'2" frame.
