“Lovely hotel, would definitely use again, great location.....”
Hotel Hafnarfjordur provided a marvellous base for a wonderful tour of southern Iceland's sights. The fact that each room has a fridge, cutlery and cooking facilities (kettle, microwave & toaster) immediately gives it the edge over hotels rooms, it is clean, the rooms are large, the staff are pleasant, and wonderfully knowledgeable about the local area, the breakfast is more than adequate, and the view from our room on the 4th floor in the tower was wonderful (no northern lights sadly, but hey ho). The location is perhaps not ideal if you are young and want to experience the late (the VERY late) nightlife of Reykjavik, the bus journey is a good half hour each way, however, there is a direct link from right outside the hotel should you need it, and it is cheap. If you come out of the hotel and turn left there is a large supermarket just a 5 minute stroll, with a fridge in your room it's ideal for milk, bread etc, but it does not sell alcohol, you need to go to a licenced liquor store for that. Overall, we LOVED it, this was our 2nd trip to the Reykjavik area, the first time we stayed in central Reykjavik, but much preferred this. Highly recommended,
“Great place to stay”
Perfect hotel for budget travellers like ourselves. A real selling point is the kitchenette in each room, complete with microwave, hobs, fridge and crockery/cutlery - makes it much easier to spend time in Iceland without breaking the bank. (I could make a pun here about banks already being broken but will resist...) It's a wonderfully clean hotel, with a decent breakfast and VERY helpful staff - the manager even took us in his own car to visit a local attraction we hadn't been able to find by ourselves! And although it's not in central Reykjavik, that means it's nice and quiet. The local suburb/harbour of Hafnarfjordur is all within easy walking distance, including cheap supermarkets and cafes. There's a bus (S1) right outside the hotel which takes you to central Reykjavik in 10mins. All the excursion operators will pick you up from the hotel, and transfers to/from the airport or the Blue Lagoon are quicker than from the central hotels. If we come back to Iceland we'd stay here again.
“Hotel Hafnarfjordur... I'll stay again”
Hotel was extremely clean, which was important for me. I can not rave enough about the staff. Loved the eating area, and children's play area of the hotel. Comfortable to relax in the lobby and have a drink. The only downsides are that the single room is quite small (but competely sufficient), and showers are so tiny -- the way Europeans size them. Also, while laptop connections are in each room, wireless is only available in the lobby (inconvenient for ipad users). I would recommend staying at this hotel if you have a car, as it is far from Reykjavik's center (10 minute drive) and taxis are expensive. All in all, I am very pleased with my stay at this hotel, and will certainly stay there again each time I am in Iceland - as other hotels don't match the standards of this one, especially the one's in this price range.
