“lovely spot”
The Ganter Hotel Mohren is a lovely hotel with a great restaurant. The Insel Reichenau is a very quiet place with lovely churches and wonderful vegetable farming. The hotel has bicycles which can be used to ride around the island. We didn't use the spa but it looked very nice. This is a great place to go to escape and just relax.
“Very pleasant stay”
The hotel interior and my room had the look of a refurbished cottage, with exposed beams contrasting with contemporary decor - very charming. The breakfast buffet was very satisfying, including cold meats, cheeses, cereals, and bread/rolls/toast. Appetizing-looking lunch and dinner menus were also available, but I was away from the hotel at meal-times and they were a bit upmarket for my usual tastes anyway. The hotel staff were polite and friendly. I speak a little German by they all spoke English (varying between basic and fluent), so language wasn't an issue. Only one issue to speak of, after getting back at 3AM on a Saturday night, there wasn't enough hot water to take a proper shower! I never enquired about this so I don't know if this was an exception or not. The hotel is ideally located in the middle of Insel Reichenau, and is only a short walk from the Tourist Information office, several points of interest and the bus stop to the train station / Konstanz. Overall, I definitely recommend staying at Ganter Hotel Mohren.
“Off the Beaten Path”
The Ganter Hotel Mohren is located on the small island of Reichnau near Konstanz, Germany. It is set in a quiet town area and is appointed in a modern but comfortable style. Though I enjoyed my stay, it is essential to have a car when visiting this area as public transportation, though possible, makes for some very long trips. The hotel has ample parking. The restaurant serves gourmet food. It's not a meat and potatoes establishment. The staff spoke little English and all the hotel information was in German, so some knowledge of the language is extremely helpful. The only worrisome thing about the hotel is that the front office was broken into during my stay which makes me wonder about the safety of the hotel.
“excellent room; nice location”
The island of reichenau was a good location for a short break (4 days). We had bikes with us. Hotel has been refurbished and the rooms were excellent - very modern. It was also pretty quiet. We ate there twice. First time food and service were first rate; second time both were second rate. How can that be? Front desk staff helpful. Overall pretty good, though not cheap.
“Charming but noisy and hot”
This hotel has a lot going for it - a super location, efficient service and friendly staff, plus the rooms are well-appointed and spotlessly clean. However, we each had rooms overhead the restaurant terrace which meant that we had to choose between a hot room with the windows shut or a noisy room with the windows open! Also (and unusually for German hotels), the floors were wooden as opposed to concrete - which meant we could hear people creaking around all night. We aren't fussy eaters or tight fisted gits, but we found the restaurant menu to be limited, expensive and a trifle pretentious. We instead opted for the fabulous eaterie across the road which had more atmosphere, an earthier menu and keener prices. Similarly, the bakery next door does a very good morning coffee and pastries! As with many boutique hotels, we felt that this was perhaps a case of "style over substance".
“Smallest bathroom in the world?”
I was given a room with a bathroom so small that a hand towel covered more than half the floor. The sink was one of those you find in a downstairs toilet, just big enough to wash your hands, and with no plug. It was totally unacceptable and I would have been very upset if I had booked a week's holiday there. Having said that, the staff were very attentive and the restaurant served good, if overpriced, food. Breakfast was excellent.
