“Wonderful hotel”
Readin some other reviews, I have to wonder if they stayed at the same hotel that I did! Great people and service, wonderful beach, perfect layout, and good food by all-inclusive standards. And they give you all the bottled water you could want and more, so I don't know where that came from. They also have free room service, which is awesome. Just go!
“Friendly staff (when spoken to), food at "formal" restaurants superb”
Secrets RB was a very nice, quiet resort with the added convenience of being able to access the facilities at the sister resort next door, Now Larimar. No Security guards prevent screaming kids from "trespassing" on to the Secrets side. WIFI is resort-wide, even on the beach! $25/25 hours, but you can split the time over 6 days. The staff is extremely quiet and reserved. But a simple "hola" gets you a huge smile and response. Don't expect meaningful conversations besides a simple greeting. Concierge staff went above and beyond when trying to find my girlfriend's lost luggage (TIP: AVOID AMERICAN AIRLINES AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT). Kudos to them for all their help. NOTE that there are 3 levels of dress attire for the restaurants at the resorts: Casual, Casual Elegance (CE), Formal. Casual (for men) means t-shirts, shorts and sandals. CE requires men to wear shoes and pants. Formal requires collared shirts and dress shoes (jeans allowed). If you're interested in better food, be sure to go to all the FORMAL restaurants. Noticeable difference in food quality, especially at the French restaurant Mercure - the salmon was incredible. Beach was beautiful and well-kept. Local merchants prohibited from coming to where you sit to sell their wares. They're only allowed to speak to you as you walk along the beach and they're not allowed to stay for more than 30 minutes at a time. Definitely would recommend to others.
“My Wife and I would go back to the Royal Beach IN A HEARTBEAT!!!...The service was exceptional”
Everything about the resort was AMAZIING! The rooms as well as the resort were very CLEAN and quiet and relaxing. The staff was always very helpful and the restaurants were great. There was a great variety of foods and theme restaurants to choose from. Our favorite part was the cabanas on the beach that you can reserve with butler service. The staff at the pool bar were very fun and kept the guests entertained. The weed debris washed in on the beach was always removed early in the morning. The activities that were available were numerous and relatively inexpensive. I would recommend the Saona Islan tour and the Dune Buggy tour. We met wonderful couples and everyone had a blast. The Disco was especially fun! I would recommend this resort to anyone!!! You can't go wrong!....( a dollar tip here and there really helps out alot)...The staff deserve it absolutely! Bev and Brad
“Wonderful getaway with excellent staff and breathtaking scenery”
From the moment we arrived at the Secrets royal resort, we were greeted with warm hospitality and smiles. The rooms were clean and well furnished with plenty of cold drinks. The air condition runs constantly and the room is relatively cool but the tropical weather makes it humid. The beach was beautiful with plenty of shade from cabana's and palm trees. The locals do try and entice you to purchase activities from them, but just say no and keep walking. The pool bar is an awesome place to hangout when the hour gets late and the bartenders will make anything you want! The restaurants on Secrets side were great, but while we were dining at Oceana, the air conditioner stopped working. Most everyone ate at the Now Larimar side of the resort. Spice was good but we ate Mercure"French" twice. They have a great steak and delicious crepe's. The nightlife was primarily on the Now side which was ironic because we paid for the adults only side, only to eat and be entertained with kids around. But no big deal bc the nightclub, and casino were adults only. We also did one excursion and went swimming with the nurse sharks and stingrays! So go, if you have never been. If you don't want hassled, book your transportation before you leave. And bring cash bc they will charge you 10$ a person to get in their country! Had a wonderful trip and will go back again!
“Good, but probably won't go back”
Hotel was good, but there were a few things that bothered me that may not bother other people. I feel like I paid a lot of money for my room and they put me in a room with 2 queen beds instead of 1 king and no oceanview. The A/C did work the whole time which was not the case with the other 2 couples we travelled with. The staff tried very hard to please us, but they understood very very little english. Ordering food at the restaurants was a nightmare every night, even if you pointed to the dish on the menu they still got it wrong. Food at the buffets were ok, typical of an all inclusive resort but certainly not some of the worst I've ever had. The hotel and the grounds were very very nice and well maintained. Unfortunatley there was a huge amount of seaweed in the water and on the beach, I don't know if that is a seasonal thing or if it is normal in that location. The beach bar and the wet bar both closed at 6 pm which I thought was a little early for an adults only resort. We did go diving 2 days and the seas were very rough, again I don't know if that is normal or just luck of the draw. We did walk down the beach to some of the shops but it was very high pressure sales and certainly no place for ladies to go without a man or in a group. Security was good on the beach, if local salesman approached visitors they were quickly escorted down the beach. I feel like for the money the resort could have been a little better, but just my opinion.
“Secrets Royal Beach A Great Honeymoon”
We loved this resort! The service and all the people at the resort were great. Checkin was quick and easy. We didn't really understand the timeshare pitch we were given at the beginning but got out of that in about 30 seconds. The room was outstanding. Honeymoon welcome package was a major plus! The food was pretty good. We tried almost all the restaurants on both the Secrets side and the NOW side of the resort. We really liked the Oceana on Secrets and the buffet was a staple for us...even after we "had dinner" at the Italian Capers (wouldn't recommend) we went to the buffet to get some food. The night entertainment on the NOW side was pretty good we went to most and had fun. Eclipse nightclub was also awesome if you like to drink at the club. The swim up bar and lazy river were very nice. Aneudy is a great bartender at the swim up bar that will make you a great drink and is always friendly. We loved the beach activities in the morning volleyball and dance. The fitness center was under construction so working out was a little difficult with a few treadmills and free weights. Overall we loved the resort and will definitely be back to celebrate future anniversaries. Recommend bringing plenty of sunscreen, cheap floats that you can use in the pool and then leave behind, and some money for the "Dominican Wal-Mart" (a little sketchy) just a short walk down the beach were you can negotiate cheap gifts and keepsakes from about 10 different shops in an old building.
“5 Stars for Secrets Royal Beach”
From the very moment we entered the hotel we were treated like royalty. The entire staff was polite and very accommodating. Our visit was excellent. The staff was always cleaning up, and constantly maintaining the hotel keeping it looking like new. The pool was clean and well cared for.The hotel is very relaxing, calm and relatively quiet, if you want a busier family atmosphere you can walk next door to their sister hotel called the Now. We especially enjoyed both the beach and the lazy river pool. The meals were much better than I had anticipated for an all inclusive facility. There were many restaurants, each with its own menu. Someone was always there to ensure you had a full refreshment (cocktail) Special thanks go out to Arsenio, our butler during our stay, he always went above and beyond far surpassing any of our expectations. We rode with in the airport shuttle with people from other local hotels and they did not have the same wonderful experience.
“Excellent experience”
We've spent 7 days there in Oct 2011 and were extremely satisfied with the resort. Great service, spacious room, good variety of food and selection of restaurants. We didn't use SPA so no comments as to what do they offer there since we mostly stayed at the beach, which is well maintained and ia clean, plenty of seaweed however, but that's natural occurrence as we understood... They offer different activities at the beach like playing volleyball, stretching, zumba, etc. And they serve great selection of beverages and all sorts of both non & alcoholic cocktails. Book safely and enjoy your stay!
“Gorgeous beach and resort!”
The resort is all-adults, all-inclusive. We went for our honeymoon. The resort itself is gorgeous with a large wrap around pool and another large pool with a swim-up bar. The rooms are nice and spacious. Jacuzzis on the balcony. Every single staff member was extremely friendly and polite. The beach was great and we had full access to the resort next to it (NOW Larimar). The only negatives were the food decent, but not great. The breakfast buffet was pretty good and all beef and chicken dishes were great. But the seafood was pretty bad, which was surprising. Also, salespeople haggled us on the beach, but it really wasn't that bad. I just said, "No gracias" with a smile and they left us alone. They served cheap liquor unless you asked for the top shelf stuff, which was never a problem. It is a great couples/honeymoon/anniversary resort and would recommended it.
