“Highly recommended”
We totally loved everything about our stay. We did not mind that the resort is huge since we're active people. After all the delicious food we had plenty of opportunity to walk some calories off. There are trains every 10 minutes going by if you don't feel like walking or are running late for a reservation. You also get occasionally picked up by golf cart if you want to jump on. Our room was nice and clean (no bugs or lizards). The only thing I did not like was the shower/tub. The water temp was always fluctuating. I prefer a 2 man jacuzzi, much more romantic. Next time we'll upgrade to that. There is food for every taste and palate. We had no complaints at all and never got tired of it. The staff is organized and friendly. The entertainment is really fun and well done. They really do a great job during the day and night to get us moving and active. The one thing we did not like was the concierge service that tried everyday to get us to go listen to a time share/ travel points program. They wanted 90 minutes of our stay to try to sell us this but for Canadians it's just too expensive. We get much better deals here. So when you arrive and a man/woman in white approaches you- beware. You'll be fending them off all week, but they gracefully accept your "no thank you". They do have vendors come in every couple of days to sell their wares. Barter hard. The mark up is at least 50%. I paid 1/3 the price on a bigger purchase and he probably was still laughing... Enjoy!
“Nice”
Resort is quite nice.
“best place I've ever been”
the luxury of the facilities, the service, the food, the gardens, the drinks, the whole thing is a unique experience, I haven't seen something like this in any place in NorthAmerica or Southamerica, (I travel a lot). I talked to local people and other tourists around that have been in Dominican quite a few times and they all say that the Melia by far is the best resort around. The only down, but just a detail considering how espectacular this place is, is the process of the check in/out, their computer system is always down and they can make you wait for an hour or more because they don't know how to do things manually in the meantime to speed up the whole thing for the guests comfort, especially considering that travelling from far places like Alberta in Canada takes up to 16 or 20 hours of travelling. I can't wait to go back.
“We'll be back!!”
The Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana is a wonderful resort. So wonderful that we went twice this year, January and November. It is a very large resort, we like to walk so no problem. For those who don't want to walk you can simply take the train!! The food is amazing! Also included is golf, I use the word 'included' loosely as you are still required to pay for your power cart...$74.00 per twosome, overpriced in my opinion. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are clean and the staff are friendly...only down fall is the aggressive time share sales people...argh!! We will be back, no doubt in my mind!!
“Our Ninth Holiday at the Melia”
This has been our ninth stay at the Melia. Every year our holiday gets exponentially better. The hotel is beautiful, and very clean. The grounds are exquisitely maintained. The beach is breathtaking in its beauty. The hotel rooms are very clean and we have always been located near the beach and the pool on the Caribe side. My only criticism was the maid in our Villa No. 36. She did not exert herself and one day neglected to make up the room. The hotel manager rectified the problem with expediency. The Melia has ten restaurants. We ate at every one and had one bad experience. The Capri restaurant has declined in food quality and service. The meal was awful and did not reflect the description on the menu. My only criticism is that the Melia has taken one restaurant that was part of the all-inclusive package and has now made it a pay to eat restaurant. The Japanese restaurant is charging per adult to eat from a pre-set menu. My other criticism is the introduction of the Pay Steak and Lobster dining area. I understand that both of these selections are expensive, but I do not feel that an all-inclusive should create exceptions. During our past eight stays at the hotel, lobster was on the menu at MaMaison. Why the change? If you want a hotel on a beautiful beach, great hotel and great service this resort is for you.
“beautiful property, good golf course”
absoutely a terrific holiday. rooms were most comfortable, grounds are meticulously kept and almost sureal, great beach and pools, and ALL the staff are extemely well trained and they really can't do enough for you. Tipping is not required and never felt like it was expected however we did tip a few staff who went over and above their call of duty. Restaurants were on the most part very good, however not excellent. The food at the buffets was just ok and very repetitious after a week as it became quite tiring meal after meal. If there is a negative to this property it would be the food, as absolutely everything else was perfect. Lastly, the Cocotal golf course across the street was also meticulously kept and worth bringing your clubs for.
“Amazing hotel, great staff if you get to talk to them for longer...”
The hotel was absolutely beautiful, the restaurants great, mainly the dominican, mexican and french, the italian is so so, we didn't try the others. Pool bar is great they don't expect tips like they do in other places, so you will definitely get better service if you tip them once in a while. Yoci the bartender by the pool is great! Make sure you make resos for restaurants as soon as you can. The hotel is big so they have a train shuttle, we used it when it was convenient, but if it wasn't there we just walked, not such a big deal for us. A couple of not so great things: -on the day we arrived we called and asked about where we could go and get ice... they said they would bring it to our room, it ended up taking more than a hour... we only wanted to know where to get it, so look around the area around your room, you'll probably find an ice station -don't go to the Melia presentation unless you are seriously interested in buying a time share with them. They tell you they will take you for breakfast, give you a tour and there will be no commitments, the truth is if you go and take the tour they will expect you to be getting it in the end which makes sense so just say no, they normally go after couples and families -the beach in from of the hotel is beautiful, and Melia is surrounded by other resorts so you won't be bothered by vendors within that area, keep in mind that if you walk far enough you will find people trying to sell you stuff which can be either good or bad for you
“Overall very good resort”
Good resort
“Very pleased with our choice to stay here!”
We upgraded to Royal Service and have no complaints. We had very personalized service, fast and easy check-in and check-out and easy access/flexible reservations to all restaurants (even when we missed our reservation due to a late returning tour). Food was good, not outstanding but very good, with lots of selection and the nicest part is as many a la cartes as you want so you do not get tired of the menus. Don't miss Le Gourmet, that was our best meal and outstanding service. In Royal Service I would ask for villa 35 or 36 (closest to the beach) and still easy shuttles to the Gabi Restaturant/Bar, etc back near the front lobby. Private beach always had loungers available as well as palapas. In room fridge was stocked with whatever we requested and bars/restaturants were not skimpy on the drinks and always used preimum brands. We were very pleased with our stay and would absolutely stay at a Melia property again. We went through a lot of other properties during our many tour pick-ups and drop-offs and the Melia by far had the nicest property/grounds. You are also right behind the nice Palma Real shopping centre.
“Melia Caribe Tropical”
Top side: The property is huge and well maintained. The rooms are divided into several “villas” and this makes you fell as if you were in a smaller and quiet property. The villas are connected through a charming stone road, which is illuminated and offers pleasant strolls. There are two big pools, which are treated every night so they are clean for the next day. The pools are well decorated with fountains, different pool levels, rocks, etc. The food in the two buffets is excellent. There is a wide variety of food for all tastes. The quality is really amazing, especially considering they make food for so many people. There are also several ethnical restaurants. We ate at the Dominican Republic and the Mediterranean restaurant. Both had limited choices on the menu, but no less quality compared to the buffet. Of note, obtaining a reservation can be tricky, you have to call early every day, but if you cannot make it, you can always go to the buffet and will be happy! The beach is another great part of it. It is a long white-sand, palm-tree filled beach. The ocean is green, the water is clear and warm, and best of all, it is quiet, with no one trying to make you happy by screaming at you all day long. Downside: They will try to sell you all kind of strolls and their vacation package, check in could be faster and one might find the staff a bit intrusive, but it is their way and their culture. All in all, a very good experience.
