“Very satisfied”
Hotel in the heart of "old Vallarta". I would highly recommend it to fellow travelers. Staff were friendly. I arrived a little too early for check in but staff saw how tired I was from travel and they found me a room. Just about everything is in walking distance ex. restaurants/bars etc. No need for a vehicle, although they do have tight spaced private parking. Overall experience was great.
“Tropicana - great spot in PV”
We stayed at the Tropicana on the last night of our raod trip in Mexico. We love the part of town that it is in and the people watching on the beach is extraordinary!
“Romantic zone / Old town & Tropicana is where you experience Mexico at it's best.”
It's too bad for the Mexican people that many Americans think you will be killed in a crossfire or thrown in jail if you go to southern beach and resort areas of Mexico. My guess is that Puerto Vallarta is a safer place to be than Chicago any day. All this is good news for the travelers from the US. We flew direct non stop from Chicago to Puerto Vallarta on American Airlines, were allowed one free checked bag per person, stayed 7 nights at the Tropicana, all for under five hundred bucks per person booked on Expedia. How sweet is that? Thank you FOX news. We had absolutely no problems, saw no evidence of any problems or issues at any point. We even probed some of the locals and non locals living there. The weather this trip (December 2010) was cool as compared to normal. Cool being about 80 degrees F during the day and about 67 at night. That was heaven to us cheese heads from Wisconsin. I've been to 9 different areas of Mexico but PV rates right at the top. This trip was the first time we ventured south one day. The coast near Mismaloya is the most beautiful coastline you may ever see. We spend an afternoon at Boca beach. Small and beautiful with foggy mountains behind you, a crystal clear mountain stream running right through the 100 yard wide beach and a couple of nice beach restaurants. Really nice. We took the bus for 70 pesos each way. With a little guidance I don't see how anyone wouldn't fall in love with Puerto Vallarta.
“Great Location, Great Staff”
I paid a little extra for the superior room, and was given an ocean front room from which I had a panoramic view of the entire bay. The bed was hard as other have mentioned, but I got used to it after a couple of days. The pool was clean and well maintained, and the place was spotlessly clean. I will return again next year!
“Great hotel and location”
This was our first trip to Puerto Vallarta, and we will definitely return to the area. We loved the hotel and its grounds, which are more charming than the pictures show. Our Jr. Suite was quite large and airy, with a long open balcony overlooking the pool and beach. The kitchenette was sufficiently stocked for preparing breakfasts or light meals. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location, for us, was perfect. It's in the heart of the old city, so we were only steps away from restaurants, shops, and the vibrant life of the city. There are many beaches nearby with different qualities for swimming, surfing, or people watching. There are also many wonderful restaurants - from fine dining to quick bites - to discover as you walk around. Tip: there is a small deli just outside the front of the hotel that is surprising well-stocked with grocery and household items. In short, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tropicana. It was a fun and relaxing trip.
“Unbelievable Bargain”
Since the hotel wasn't yet reviewed I decided to risk it and take a chance. This hotel is unbelievable. Beautiful, right on the beach, amazingly well maintained grounds, onsite security, immaculate rooms. The service was always professional with a sense that they really enjoyed working there. I will go back and I will stay in the Hotel Tropicana.
“Good value for the money.”
We used this hotel only as a one night stopover. Had we been there longer we would have preferred a room in the tower that has grilled balconies so we could have enjoyed the ocean view while seated. These rooms cost more but would make the holiday more enjoyable. There are rooms which do not have an ocean view. These would not have been acceplable for a longer stay.
“True Mexican Charm and Warmth”
Love this Mexican jewel of a hotel in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta. While standards are different among countries, this charming hotel has the nicest staff, best waiters, great food and beautiful grounds. It's not a Four Seasons Hotel, nor do I ever want that when in another land. Once you get with the pace and pathos of Mexico and this hotel, you will have the most enjoyable vacation in the older part of PV. Whitewashed walls, tile floors, blooming flowers everywhere all make this the best choice for a hotel for me. The room is spacious enough and has all the modern conveniences; however, A/C window units can be noisy and/or blowing directly on the beds. There is purified drinking water on every floor and a pitcher with glasses in your room. What a wonderful property for those trekkers who enjoy experiencing life away from home. The beach is one of the best and towel service is exemplary. In fact, all service in this hotel is exemplary. If there's a problem, let the main dest know and it's fixed. Always the breakfasts are fresh, good and reasonable. Dinner, too, is delicious if you stay in a night or two. The tortilla soup and Shrimp Diablo are two of my favorites! Stay here if you want to feel you've been in Mexico and not in just another cookie cutter hotel mirroring life back home. This hotel is truly the gem of the Romantic Zone and has one of the best pools around the area.
“Would stay at The Tropicana again”
Great location, pool, view, staff was great; close to the Los Muertos pier for those who need the water taxi; beds are a little harder than they should be; the hotel should look into upgrading their beds for the price they charge, but overall was great for a one night stay I had. I would stay there again. I'd read other complaints about the smell of cigarette smoke but you can only smell a little in the hallway -deal with it.
“Great for price and location”
This hotel was a great find. The room was huge, overlooking the ocean with two decks! It was immaculate, in a great location in Old Town near everything. Parking was a challenge due to the narrow road and traffic but the staff were kind. I highly recommend this hotel. A bargain for sure.
