“Good experience for a 2.5* rated hotel”
For a 2.5* star hotel, the hotel definitely provided value for money. Staff were friendly. The room was clean (there were signs of wear and tear in the bedding and the carpet, but nothing that was a real problem). Hot water was readily available for showers and washing. Breakfast was the usual continental offering - cereals, breads and rolls, jam and honey, yoghurts, scrambled eggs and sausage plus tea and coffee. (Tea choice could be random - fruit teas only some days, so we took our own sachets of breakfast tea down with us). The hotel has a restaurant and the lunch we had there was very nice and not too expensive. The garden seating is very pleasant indeed. The hotel is about 15 minutes away from the Charles Bridge (by tram), and there is a tram stop a couple of minutes walk away (the no. 17 tram takes you to Charles Bridge). The traffic noise did keep us awake on our first night, but after that we got used to it and it wasn't a problem. (We bought a travel pass at the airport when we arrived - if you don't do this you'll need to have coins to buy a tram ticket at the machine near the hotel.) Although there is a lot of graffiti in the Branik area (as there is all over Prague), we had no concerns over our safety. A final recommendation - if you go the tram stop just after the Charles Bridge, there is a restaurant called Maestro on the main road (walk 20 - 30 yards back towards Charles Bridge - the food is lovely and is inexpensive and the staff are really friendly.
“Live on the Czech economy in Prague”
One block walk to the 106 bus, which takes you to Kasherov metro station (red line). From there, you can get anywhere in Prague. Fare is only 30 Krouna (less than $2 US). Don't even bother with taxis! Rooms are small, and shower is about half the size of a telephone booth -- but adequate and extremely affordable. Really good hot breakfast. A whole week here costs about the same as one night in a tourist hotel. Free wi-fi is available, but only in the lobby (not in the rooms).
“Bad maintenance, average location, nice people.”
We got to the hotel and the guy in the reception was pretty friendly. When we got to the room half of the lights didn't work and there were tiny animals in the bathroom. The receptionist did what he could since it was almost midnight and there were no maintenance people. The windows were directly above the bed and the curtains were less than average so at 6 in the morning the light was coming directly to my face. The bathroom was really lacking maintenance. There's no Internet in the rooms, wifi in the reception only. The location is not that good, nor that bad (6 miles south from downtown). There's a tram half a block from the hotel that takes you to the action. The hotel is a lot older than what the pictures show. TV only has about 5 or 6 channels. I would try to avoid this hotel in the future.
