“Stunning views”

our only complaint was when we asked the front desk to arrange transporatation to the airport we specified that we needed a large car for 3 people and 3 large suitcases. this didn't happen and we spent 2 hours in the car with our luggage on our laps. otherwise a stunningly beautiful view from our room.

“Treasure”

Everything at this hotel was tops. The service was warm and extremely helpful. The view was breathtaking and worth the stay alone. The pool was fabulous and warm. I had 2 complaints: first, it was a hike to get to the hotel from the center of town (only about 10-15 minutes but an uphill walk which knocked us out a bit). Second, the hotel charged for the use of their outdoor pool/towels which were actually on the hotel property as what I believed to be an amenity of the hotel. It was 44 euro for one day! I found that to be incredibly obnoxious in light of what we were paying each night for our stay. Certainly the pool, pool towels and lounge chairs on the property should have been gratuitous or we should have been advised about the charge in advance. With all we were paying, it did not make or break our trip, but we did not appreciate the advantage taking of us as guests. I'd sooner have paid a little mnore for the room and not have seen that unexpected charge on my bill. Despite these 2 minor complaints, I would truly highly recommend the hotel. It was a great place in what I believe to be the smartest destination spot in the Italian Riviera (much to eat, do and easy access for day trips to Portofino, Genoa, Santa Margarita and the Conque Terre)...

“Three suggerstions for improving the hotel”

My wife and I have three main complaints. First, the hotel restaurant grossly overprices e.g. 13 euros for a bowl of soup from the child's menu!! Second, the bathroom shower was very weak Third, the lights illuminating the hotel penetrated into the bedroom.

“Great staff, poor hot breakfast”

Staff were very professional yet portrayed a relaxed friendly approach, from the front desk to the porter/chambermaids. Having stayed in 'refurbed' hotels which were frayed round the edges, I was a little wary of how the Excelsior might be. My concerns were groundless. I mark the overall satisfaction as 4 only because the hot breakfast was not. Lukewarm at the best. And the choice was limited. Perhaps I am being a bit picky as the buffet spread was very comprehensive, suited my partner, but I don't do ham and cheese etc in the mornings.
