“Oustanding Staff”
Every interaction with the staff from the moment of check-in to closing the door on the cab when we left was outstanding. They are a great team that made me feel special!
“The Governor”
Enjoyed the little sitting room and skylight
“Great place, ideal location, tasteful and comfortable”
Probably don't need to look anywhere else to stay. Great location, tons of restaurants within short walking distance, nice decor, clean and quite, good service. Really very enjoyable. And reasonably priced to boot. Thanks!
“A delightful place to stay”
Upon my arrival I was warmly greeted by all of the staff. I found it refreshing to be at a hotel where everybody seemed to enjoy their job and sincerely wanted my stay to be as enjoyable as possible. The room was tastefully decorated and comfortable, and the hotel was situated within walking distance of everywhere I wanted to go, and right on the trolley line. The person at the front desk not only made suggestions for a restaurant, he called them and made a reservation for me and told the people at the restsurant to " treat her well, as she is a very special person". Where else can you get treatment like that?
“Charming hotel”
The Governor was a charming hotel and it was conveniently located in downtown Portland. The staff was courteous and helpful. The only problem we had was lack of great dining choices in the surrounding area.
“Could be better”
The Governor was good but aged - not only in the positive sense. The staff were rather snooty. At check-out, no one asked how was our stay, which for a hotel, is surprising. The room (The Parlour Suite) should have a fridge, up-to-date flat screen tv and slippers with the robes. Expedia gave wrong information at booking: Said room was on the 8th floor (hotel only has 6 floors!) That parking would be free ($27.00) Flat-screen tv which we didn't have and also that we had a great view of the downtown which was not accurate - store-front and parking lot views!
“102 years of happy guests”
The Governor is always a welcome home away from home. The old wing is full of history and very comfortable and always my choice (I love National Trust hotels.). The restaurant, Jake's, is tops. Whenever we are in Portland, we always get to The Governor for a fantastic breakfast that lasts us long past lunchtime. Can't wait to get back.
“Most helpful and welcoming even to the low budget traveler”
Although our room was very small and had no real view, everything else about our stay at the Governor was excellent. We probably got the low budget room. The staff did let us extend our stay for a 1/2 rate day so that we had some place to be until our late red eye flight. The food at the in-house restaurant, Jake's, was fabulous. Great location within walking distance to so many places like Powell's Book store, the Chinese Garden, the Museum of Art, the waterfront, etc. 4 to 5 stars
“Very nice historic hotel”
The hotel was beautiful, quite and comfortable. A perfect place to spend our wedding anniversary. The rooms were slightly smaller than I anticipated but then again it is a historic hotel.
“Would definitely return when staying in Portland”
Beautiful historic hotel. Convenient to MAX rail. Quiet room. Did not have microwave or mini-fridge in room which is sometimes nice to have.
