“Outstanding and Reasonably Priced”

We were extremely pleased with the accomodations at the Mark Spencer. Wonderfully comfortable bed and super clean. Bathroom was spotless. Rooms cleaned daily. Other highlights are: tidy kitchenette, the location if you want to stay in downtown Portland, the streetcar access is within one block, and there is a nice continental breakfast and tea in the afternoon. The staff were helpful and friendly. We happily paid the extra fee for parking as it is secure and underground. Can't say enough good things about this place.

“Great place to stay for Portland Blues Festival”

Stayed for four nights during the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival. Well within walking distance, affordable, clean and quiet. Staff very helpful. Take pets. Will stay there again

“Wonderful Portland Retreat”

Just a block away from Powell's City of Books, the Mark Spencer Hotel is a wonderful downtown Portland retreat complete with a rooftop garden and city views. The location is within walking distance of many intersting shops, winebars, and restaurants as well as being a block from free light rail. The Mark Spencer staff were helpful and courteous. I doubt I will ever be tempted to stay at any other hotel when visiting Portland.

“Great location and service”

This is an older hotel, but the rooms are very nice (certainly well-equipped) and the location is hard to beat. The Mark Spencer is a great place "home base" which to explore Portland. Bring breakfast (and lunch?) to eat in - our room had a kitchenette complete with small range and oven, dishes, a couple of pots and pans, toaster, etc. Step out the door, walk a couple of blocks and you're at Powell's Bookstore and the rest of the Pearl District. The trolley line runs right nearby, ready to take you anywhere in the city. Note that as a downtown hotel, there is some noise from the street and local nightlife - music and voices from clubs, cars, etc. Just a part of being in the city, right? We asked for a room on an upper floor, and we weren't disturbed in the least. We'll be back, and we recommend it highly! This place isn't a secret anymore, so do reserve in advance.

“Great value, & location.”

I stayed at the Mark Spencer twice now. The rates are very competive, and the rooms are larger than expected. Both of the rooms I've stayed in have had kitchenettes, comlete with pots, pans, and utensels. The location is the best part. Right in downtown Portland one block from the streetcar.

“Great place to stay in Portland”

My husband and I were extremely satisfied with the hotel we had chosen in our first visit to Portland. We got everything we expected in this hotel especially the wonderful and helpful staff, the great location (transportation is very accessible and dowtown is walking distance), and the amenities and services provided, including very good continental breakfast and free coffee/hot beverages during the day, plus one special afternoon wine and seafood hors d'oeuvre. Our room was excellent, with a kitchenette, even with a walkin closet and was kept very clean. There's a nearby Whole Food grocery for your needs. Lastly, we would like to make special mention about the hotel staff: they were very courteous and helpful. Definitely, we would come back to this hotel whenever we make another visit to Portland.
